Many Occasions but the most recent was from a pack of nerds packed in with wet bathers and towel, I did not realise that the nerds were stuck to everything until about two weeks later. The bag had to be thrown out
All sorts of surprises are in my children’s school bags. The worst find was a squashed forgotten banana, loose sultanas, and a half drunk popper juice that had leaked everywhere!
Never know what you will find in my kids bags it is usually sand from toys they play with in the sand pit and as we all know sand goes through everything
My eldest daughter rarely eats her lunch so it would have to rotting fruit
This item I would never had imagined in my wildest dreams but upon opening my son’s lunch box late last year I found a dead bat. He assures me he wanted to put it in there so it didn’t make his bag smell. I got the shock of my life. Turns out the bat had been electrocuted on some power lines at school and he was super excited to be the one to find it and bring it home.
It received a speedy burial in the garden.

Most disgusting…would be finding a pair of dirty boys undies in my daughter’s school bag. Horribly smelly and disgusting I thought. Apparently the teacher ‘accidentally’ put the prep boys soiled undies in the wrong bag. Blah!

Surprising would be the handful of (unused) tampons contained securely in an empty chip packet. On asking where he got them from and why they were in his school bag and if he knew what they were for, he said on the way home from school (during hard rubbish) he and his friend had found a little suitcase full of them and that they are what gets put in your mouth when you’re at the dentist. It was sooooo hard for hubby and I to keep straight faces.

Found a sludge-like substance in the front pocket of the bag, Apparently had not been finishing her yoghurt and would poor it into the front pocket to save for later and forget it was in there

My littlest human has a habit of popping things into his big sister’s school bag… at the end of one week, I found a collection of items from the laundry basket…
I sweet and sour sauce satchet that my son thought it would be a good idea to keep late. After the squishing incident, his bag smelt lovely and wasn’t sticky at all, and he definitely helped me clean it up!

Well I have to say we are pretty boring – I have not found anything disgusting or surprising in my child’s backpack yet so dont have an amazing or gross story to tell – sorry (i know i could have made up something exciting as this prize is great)
The worst I have found is some blueberries that fell out of the container and got squished a little (bit of a let down i know lol) – Still figured I would enter anyway lol
I found last years ‘petrified’ ham and cheese sandwich and a slightly dehydrated apple…..thankfully it was in a lunchbox!!!
The most horrible, awful, perfectly preserved half eaten cheeseburger and fries. I couldn’t believe that she left it in her bag a month before and apart from the fries being stale, was pristinely fossilised in preservatives which she’d usually eat.
an unidentifiable object. Green, fury and a little high on the nose. Is it an orange, a pear or even a mandarin. Taken refuge in our lunch box. Our object had such a lovely xmas break.
SILKWORMS in the lunchbox… I’m nor adverse to having them as pets, having had SILKWORMS as a child, but after a weekend in the lunchbox they were almost dead.
We don’t have a mulberry tree, neither do neighbours. We had to scour the neighbourhood on a Sunday night to find mulberry leaves to rescue and revive the hungry hoard.

My helpful pre-schooler once made a tuna sandwich ready for big-school, which unfortunately was 7 weeks later, to this day, my husband will not open a backpack without a peg on his nose!
Vomit….when I was looking after my niece, she was feeling really sick on the bus and rather than upchuck on herself or her friends, she buried her face in her school bag….in the morning, so it had been in there all day. YUCK…we opted for a new bag.
Lollies he hid at the end of the term 2 the day before returning to school! Oh we have 4 weeks holiday too at the end of term 2 so double yuck!
A banana….found in early February that had been there since December! It was fuzzy and I had to throw out the bag! Not a fan of bananas at the best of times, I still gag just thinking about that find!

A snail, it had been alive when she put it in there, not so much by the time I found it. She wanted it as a pet, a fail for her on pet ownership, I think.
The worst surprise would have to be the stinky nappy I put in the nappy bag a couple of weeks earlier that sat in the car in the Qld sun and sweated. Stuck everything out in the bag.

Not one but two putrid rotten bananas that were definitely not in an edible state! The smell and look temporarily put me off bananas!
Most surprising thing found in my sons bag was 3 TEETH carefully stored in a “missing” sock! Turns out my son had been using his loose change to buy teeth that fell out at school. He was hoping to leave these out for the tooth fairy and double his money!
A diary…..ok so finding a diary isnt THAT big of a surprise but it was the contents of the diary that delivered the shock….crushing on and kissing boys……She is 7!
My boy puts all types of bugs into his school bag. It can be a nightmare for me to clean out … lol.
My 8 year old son loves collecting insects including snails, ants, worms and even lizards as pets. He brings empty jars in his school bag and collects anything he can find. He will never let an insect go (even when he has forgotten his jars) and makes sure to store them in the little pockets of his school bag. Always a great surprise…!

I opened my daughters lunch box to find about ten slaters. When I asked her why, she said she didnt want them to “drown” because it was going to rain…..I couldnt help but laugh….
It’s still a mystery as to what the most disgusting this that’s grown in the bottom of my kids bags. I couldn’t really tell what food it orientated from, definitely not a processed food as it had decomposed and possibly starting sprouting life of it’s own.

A sandwich I had made him from a month before it was as bad as the nuggets he took from maccas one day and left in his shorts under his bed
I have found undies that were brown and wet. Looking further I found a melted chocolate in the bag near the undies
We are only early in our schoolbag days, so we try to keep it nice and clean. The method chosen by my children? All rubbish, half eaten food, and miscellaneous “stuff” is shoved into the pram or nappy bag when mum isn’t looking! Digging around in the nappy bag one handed whilst trying to hold down a wriggling baby and pulling out a mouldy, half eaten pear is no fun for anyone!
On the upside, the toddler gained her payback – lost TV remote was eventually discovered stashed in an unused pocket of the school bag!!
The lunchbox is heaps more trendy then the plastic Woolworths bag as a lunchbox my mum use to send me to school with.
Opening up my son’s bag to find someone else’s mouldy lunch was the most surprising thing I’ve seen. My son brought home the wrong school bag. To his credit, the bag looked identical. My kids have grown up now and have kids of there own. I can’t wait to hear there stories about what comes home. 😉 wink wink.

Last year (apparently) Daddy took the boys to Maccas for a secret end of school treat…and left the schoolbags in his car…well this year when we got the bags out again there was our youngests happy meal stuffed right into it! The worst part is the chips and nuggets looked completely fresh (BLEGH! We all still went to maccas again today though :P) !
