Winter has well and truly set in and boy am I glad that we have great insulation in our house. We live in the Hunter Valley so while it is cold, there are definitely plenty of colder places to be.
The Barrington Tops for example or the Blue Mountains. We ventured to both last week! Oh and we also saw snow at both. Growing up in central Queensland you didn’t see snow, EVER. So every chance we get, we visit the snow. Last year was the first time my kids or husband had seen snow so we weren’t really prepared for how cold it was going to be.
This year was different! The kids were all rugged up and so were we. Bub was wearing layers on layers but she still seemed chilly so we put her in her Love To Dream sleeping bag and arm warmers and she loved it. I am amazed at how warm the baby sleeping bag is and the arm warmers are just a genius idea!
We threw snow balls, wrote in the snow and had a picnic lunch at the Barrington Tops. It was so cold but it had nothing on the cold that the Blue Mountains were about to show us.
We booked a cabin months ago after checking the average temps for the time of year and thought 10-15 degrees wasn’t too bad so we booked it. As our holiday date neared, the temperature continued to drop and snow warnings released. Again we prepared for the cold. Luckily we did because it snowed again on the day we left! It was gorgeous light, fluffy snow.
Prior to it snowing we spent three days exploring everything we could fit into our trip. We visited the Three Sisters, embraced everything that Scenic World had to offer, and looked out at the view at Echo Point and many more other iconic bush walks and lookouts. We could not have fit anything more into our trip and there is still so much more we want to do, mainly the bush walks because many of them we couldn’t do with all the kids.
We also checked out the Jenolan Caves on the way home and took a tour. It was pretty cool but the large tour group thing isn’t really for us. We did however learn quite a bit and saw some amazing things. The kids loved it!!

I will share more about these adventures throughout the week but this is a quick overview of the busy week we have had.

We’ve just moved from Canberra to Sydney and are surprised at how much we don’t need our winter warmers. Still planning a trip to the snow each year, so we won’t get rid of them just yet.

I love absolutely everything about winter! Although it’s probably not as cold up here as it is in the Hunter, I love the blue sky winter days, I love how invigorating the cold air is and when you breathe in it’s like it clears out your insides. I also love winter because it’s so easy to keep warm…in summer you can’t just jump in a pool whenever you want! Would love to score a winter warm swaddle up 50/50 because I have a winter baby arriving any time now and it would be perfect!!!!x
I’m definitely not a fan of Winter….but I should be thankful I’m in Perth so it’s pretty mild most days, except for today 11.00am and still 6 degrees bbbbrrrrrr
I think I would love winter more if the sun would just shine, just a little. Or if it snowed more (how pretty is snow?!) But instead we get those bleak, overcast, freezing days. Those are a touch hard to enjoy lol.

What I love about winter is waking up to the crisp, foggy mornings and that freshness in the air. Then warming up next to an open fireplace listening to the crackling of the embers.

We use to live in the Blue Mountains. Then when we moved to the Central Coast, we would travel back in the school holidays. Always stopping at The Three Sisters for a break. Sadly we never did manage to do much exploring. It was always just a pit stop.

I grew up in Katoomba. The 3 sisters and Echo point was my playground. Loved it .. The one thing I loathed was having to go out in the freezing cold searching for firewood everyday!
What I love now is growing fresh winter veggies like snow peas and silver beet. They taste better when there are no chemicals on them.
Icy winds, dry heated rooms, thick hats and reduced sebum production means dull, frizzy winter hair and a more sensitive scalp needing tender, loving care. However I am still able to laugh at my ability to forgo others opinions of my winter fashion for the sake of keeping warm! My humour, silly hats and jumpers are all rejoiced in!

Loathe Winter, hate it with intense passion. Raining and cold, making it hard to get the washing dry, and when I’m cold, I’m frozen, to the bone. Layer upon layer of necessary bulky Winter woolies, bogging me down, rendering me useless, wanting to send me into hibernation until Spring has sprung and the sunshine has returned, and I’m feeling free and easy, warm blood coursing through my veins rather than the icicles in there that freeze me.

I Loathe winter. My job was outside in the hills and a minus with frozen fingers and a convertible car with a broken roof was not much fun. Worst of all I hate frozen ears!!
I loathe Winter because its so very cold here and everything seems a bit harder to do in these Winter Mornings. It seems to take more energy getting the kids ready for school to the housework. I love that in winter there is no such thing as bad hair days – just “perfect day for a hat” days.

I love Winter. It is a cosy season for warm and fuzzy things such as cuddles and hot chocolate with marshmallows. I would like a pink sleep bag 4-12 months please.
I most loathe winter after having a fall a few years ago and breaking two bones. Wet footpaths aren’t kind things!! On raining days I avoid going out of the house as much I can as I’m fearful of slipping again. But as for the kids, their favourite past time is puddle jumping and mud pie making. They love watching a storm out the windows unlike me who still gets scared in a thunder storm even as an adult.
Even though I’m generally not a fan of wintertime, this year is going to a special winter for our whole extended family. We have a snow wedding to attend and I am sure it is going to be a weekend on the mountain filled with beauty, fun in the snow, lots of love and no slips!

My home is very cold (I blame the single glazing on the windows and the old brick walls) so the temperature inside is often lower than outside (convenient in summer, not so great in winter!). I hate the cold but hubby doesn’t feel it so we barely heat the main room and I have to wear layers upon layers of clothes! Oh and I sleep with two hot bottles, socks, scarf, a lavender heat pack. And I’m not even kidding!
We did a day trip to the Blue Mountains these holidays too! Now every time my little one sees a mountain in the distance, he yells “MUM!!! I can see the three sisters!!!!!’.
My favourite things about winter would be the hot soups to warm the inside, the toasty electric blanket to warm my outside and the excuse to wear a scarf with every outfit. 🙂

I’m actually a pretty big fan of winter. Love the cool days, no sweat – perfect for doing housework and exercise (although I probably do more of the former). Slow cooker stews make for easy dinners and calm evenings. Oh, and the fact that it gets darker earlier…. easier to tell the kids it’s bedtime 😉

I am loving winter this year because I just had a baby. The cold hasn’t fazed me because I’m too busy getting to know my daughter and although she may be tiny she rules me and hubby and has been keeping us very busy! Winters from now on are certainly going to be wonderful, as each year we will celebrate my daughter’s birthday and there will always be yummy cake!
