Hunter Valley Gardens Mega Creatures 2016
As you have come to expect from the Hunter Valley Gardens, they get bigger and better every year. This year is no exception. The Christmas Lights Spectacular and Mega Creatures 2016 edition are an event not to be missed!!
Like I have mentioned previously on the blog, we attend the Christmas Lights Spectacular every year. It has become a family tradition and the kids love it. If your kids are anything like mine; they will absolutely love the Mega Creatures as well. You can take a journey through the gardens and see some amazing works of art (botanical art obviously), different themes/gardens and the Story Book area. This is one of my kids favourite parts of the whole Hunter Valley Gardens.
The Mega Creatures 2016 include all of the incredible giant bugs from last year. These include beetles, tarantula, bee, snail and so many more – see here for last years Mega Bugs review.
Much to the excitement of my kids; this year the Hunter Valley Gardens have added Dinosaurs to their Mega Creatures display. See favourites including: T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus and many more! The giant animatronic creatures will have you and your children in awe and provide hours of discussions.
It was great watching the dinosaurs move and make noises. It really gave the kids a sense of what they were like before they became extinct. Each one had a different call and it was amazing seeing the kids get excited over learning. This experience is not only heaps of fun, it is also educational.

Pterodactylus, The flying dinosaur, well its my favourite because i have had to learn so much about them because they are my sons favourite dinosaur. These guys were fairly well a runt of a winged dinosaur with the wingspans of the largest individuals spanning only eight feet or so. they are also thought to have been more of a reptile then what we know as a “bird”. Our son even managed to find that there is a dinosaur museum in canberra (Which is great by the way for anyone else with dinosaur loving children!) and made us take a “holiday” to visit, well worth the 6 hour drive
Parasaurolophus, aka Ducky in The Land Before Time. Pint sized and sweet she’s my kind of dinosaur. I can appreciate the king the Tyrannosaurus but love Ducky.
The butterfly because it starts its life as a caterpillar, nothing bold or beautiful but it still becomes a gorgeous colourful butterfly. It spreads its wings and flies. It gives hope that no matter how you start out, you can always change it.
Who am I?
I came before the dinosaurs.
My hind legs are catapults.
I’m really good at flying.

I’m the one making all that noise out the window on this hot summers night, it’s why I am favoured so much…
That’s right, I’m the Grasshopper.
My favourite bug is the ladybug,
if only it was big enough to hug,
‘Cause it is the cutest, tiny critter,
I love to watch its tiny wings flitter!
My favourite dinosaur is the sauropod!
Here’s why I love the sauropod –
This gentle giant I would really love to meet,
This long-necked creature loves to plod,
Looking for luscious conifers to eat.
It has a tiny head on a neck that bends,
It walked through forests long ago,
It loved to live with all its friends,
If only they lived upon the Earth, just so.
