It is time to clean your bathroom! Read this and discover how you can clean your bathroom in five minutes a day.

Don’t be discouraged by the amount of cleaning that is required. By doing small bits everyday, it shrinks the amount of effort that is actually necessary for your bathroom to shine! Here is how you can stay on top of the cleaning:

Minimal effort for a large reward

No one wants to scrub their bathrooms and showers but unfortunately it is one of those jobs that must be done. By taking five minutes out of your day you will notice that this chore will become an easy one.

Clear benches

• Take a look at your benches, basins, niches in shower and put away everything that shouldn’t be out. This includes razors, hair straighteners, make up! If there are clothes on the floor, put them in the dirty clothes basket and hang your towels up.

Surface cleaning

• Spray your shower with bathroom cleaners and while you are waiting for it to work its magic get started on the toilet. Pour toilet cleaner in the bowl, give it a quick scrub and wipe down the rest of the toilet.
  TIP: Don’t forget the front of the toilet, particularly if males live there!

• The shower spray  should have had time to work now so give it a quick wipe down. (I use Healthy Clean Bathroom Rapid Foam because it works fast)
  TIP: If you use body wash, it creates less soap scum on the tiles than a bar of soap.

Wipe wipe wipe

•  Give the walls and tiles surrounding the basins a wipe / spot clean.
  TIP: This is best done straight after having a shower as the steam makes it easier to wipe.

• Wipe down benches and basins with disinfectant sprays, don’t forget the taps. A lot of germs harbour there! To combat germs the Dettol Healthy Clean Bathroom Trigger is a great choice as it kills 99.9% of germs.

• Clean mirrors to remove any water splashes.
  TIP: Microfiber cloths work great for a streak free clean.

Top up

• Top up hand wash and toilet paper.

Homes with young children may require a few extra minutes each day to keep your bathroom clean due to the additional mess they create. Mainly fingerprints, toothpaste drawings on the shower screen and dirty clothes next to the hamper.

The five minute a day clean doesn’t eliminate the need for a good once over; this should still be done periodically as needed. It will however mean you can have a clean and tidy bathroom with minimal effort each and every day!

When it comes to keeping your kids’ rooms clean and organised, it can often feel like an uphill battle. There are, however, a few tips and tricks you can use to make it less of a generational warfare situation. Intrigued? Read on, because below you’ll find just five of the ways you can improve matters. A Place For Everything…

It’s true that it takes less time to tidy up if you know where to put everything, so be sure to have clear guidelines about where everything goes. If you can get your child to help you with this process, then so much the better. The more involved they can be with how a sense of organisation and cleanliness is created within their space, the better. The less you have to think about when you’re tidying up, the easier the whole process becomes. It’s that simple.

Timing…

Most parents encourage kids to tidy up before bed and this does make a certain amount of sense. However, this is also the time of day when your kids are the most tired and often the most difficult. It might be an idea to ask them to tidy up while you make dinner, so they can spend 15 minutes putting away toys, then eat, and relax before bed.

Labels

Once you have defined where everything goes in your kids’ rooms, make up some labels that reflect this. Use pictures if your kids are too little for written labels. This will also make it easier – and quicker – for the kids to put their toys and clothes away themselves.

Rubbish

Make sure there is a rubbish bin for papers, discarded containers and pencils, etc. in each child’s room. If there is nowhere sensible to put these things, kids tend to just throw them on the floor – and this can become a habit. Encourage your children to put empty packaging and broken toys in their rubbish bin – and, if they’re old enough, to empty it weekly, or whatever your usual bin routine may be.

Work With Your Child

Not all kids are the same – if you have more than one, you’ll already know this. Some kids like to be neat and tidy; they like organising and arranging their ‘stuff’, and are naturally neat. Some children dump things on the floor and can’t be bothered putting their toys in a cupboard. Find a system that works for each child. The litter bugs may do well with big-boxed storage units that let them just throw everything in and pull it out when they want. Neat and organised kids might prefer very detailed storage systems. Working with your child’s natural tendencies whenever possible is a lot easier than trying to change them.

Keeping kids’ rooms clean and organised doesn’t have to be a hassle. If you set up a few systems and make sure your children know what’s expected of them, parent-child clashes can be kept to a minimum – on this front anyway.

This is by far my favourite of the Everloc Suction Systems Xpressions range. Like the other Everloc products it is installed within a matter of minutes but it looks tidy, it sits well and most importantly it holds my most important shower items with ease. It is the perfect size for what I need at: 27cm x 17cm x 16cm and would look great in the bathroom, laundry or kitchen.

Everloc Double Corner Basket

This is larger in size and obviously caters to holding more. I myself wouldn’t load it with full products but if you put the full bottles towards the back in the corner it holds better. Anything lighter can sit with no issues. I am using this in the kids bathroom as they cannot reach the shower niche properly. This double corner basket allows them to put their soap, shampoos, cups, etc. and not have any excuse to leave them on the shower floor. Dimensions are:  22cm x 27cm x 41cm.

It really does not matter how large or small your pantry; to make the most of the space you have, your pantry needs to be effectively organised. You need to be quite ruthless in determining what stays and what goes, and take advantage of storage solutions outside of your home (such as storage at a Fort Knox Storage facility), for items that are used infrequently or really do not belong in your pantry. Here are some great tips how saving space can be quick, easy and budget friendly.

Getting started…

Pull everything out of your pantry

To get really organised, you need to remove the entire contents of the pantry and commit to disposing of everything with an expired use by date. Items that are not out-of-date, but are open and look to be past their best, should go too.

Clean while the pantry is empty

With a completely empty pantry, you have the perfect opportunity to give the space a thorough clean. If drawers are a feature of your pantry, start by vacuuming them out, and then give all surfaces a complete wipe down.

Logically sort and group pantry items

With items still outside of your pantry, sort them into logical groupings, such as flour and baking items, tinned food, pastas, sauces and cereals. Before you return these items to the pantry, think carefully about how they can be best positioned and arranged.

Keep heavy appliances on trays

A great tip that has been practiced for decades, is to sit heavy appliances like food processors and blenders on trays. Doing so makes it easy to slide the appliance from the back of the shelf to the front where it can be more easily lifted out.

Saving space with tins and bottles

In most pantries, tins and bottles can be difficult to store, because of their bulky size and shape. It is now possible to purchase expanding racks for the pantry which are attached under the shelf. You will be adding extra storage and creating a space where all tins are visible and neatly organised.

Use containers for your dry goods

Stop the chaos and loss of space that results from opened boxes and packets falling over in your pantry. It’s far better to empty your dry goods into containers and containers that are clear glass or plastic are preferable, as they make it easier to find particular products.

To optimise space, use square or rectangular containers, rather than round ones which do not fit beside each other quite so well. Use labels for the easy identification of products and ensure that all containers have airtight lids.

Baskets are an invaluable resource in a pantry as they provide a place for all manner of items, from cake sprinkles and food colouring, to garbage bags and aluminium foil. Save space and stay organised with baskets that are clearly labelled and logically arranged.
