Most little girls have the dream of being a mum, feeding their baby and dressing up pretty. Actually no scrap that. A lot of toddlers, boys and girls, love pretend play.

I have written about why pretend play is vital for children previously on the blog, you should read it!

Brio Red Stove Review

I know so many boys that enjoy playing ‘mums and dads’ just as much girls do. They look after their baby, go to work and even cook ‘dinner’ for their family. My son used to pretend he was a dad all the time, he also had a passion for cooking and he mimicked my husband and I every chance he got. (We are both chefs).

My 2 year old daughter has recently discovered her love for food and ‘cooking’. She fills up containers and uses utensils to make her creations but longed for a kitchen that was small enough for her to reach without the use of a chair.

This wish of hers came true when the most adorable Brio red stove was set up to surprise her when she arrived home from child care. She squealed with joy and has barely played with anything else since.

The Brio red stove comes flat packed but seriously only takes a couple of minutes to put together and requires only 2 screws! It was so easy to build.

The stove features a classic look and inspires role play in children. Offering a realistic appearance for children; the oven door opens, the regulator moves and the buttons turn with a clicking sound.

The stove top and oven is large enough that your child can put a few pots, small cupcake tray or as my daughter has proven – a fair chunk of her toy box inside!

I love the size of this Brio stove and oven because it isn’t overly large like the standard ones you see. This is more compact and perfect for toddlers and those with limited space in their homes. Approx. measurements: 51cm H x 30cm D x 41cm W.

At $75 the Brio stove is well built, sturdy and will see you through numerous children. You can view more about the Brio red stove or find your local stockist by clicking here.

Brio Motion Wobbler

Finding fun toys for babies that are durable and safe are hard to find. Especially if you want something affordable!

The Brio motion wobbler is fantastic and will have your baby engaged with its bright colours and the sound that is made each time the toy wobbles. Don’t be alarmed though at the thought of noise, this toy is quiet and offers only a gentle sound as the yellow ball taps the sides of the wobbler.

Another benefit is that it requires no batteries! The Brio motion wobbler is an educational infant toy that has been designed to help develop baby’s senses.

The Brio Toddler Wobbler retails for a low $12.95 which is fantastic given the amazing quality of this toy. Click here to see more information or find you local stockist.

Both of these products are Brio and after seeing the stove and motion wobbler shown above, I am surprised that I had never heard of the brand before now. They offer amazing products that are designed with a child’s best interest at heart and the quality cannot be faulted.

I am so glad parents have the option of trustworthy children and baby products like these. Childsmart provides parents a one stop shop for educational, fun and great quality products, check them out on their website, facebook and instagram.

Disclosure: I received the above products for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own or that of my children.

Easy Christmas Craft Ideas For Kids

Christmas is a time of magic, creativity and joy.

Seeing the joy on a child’s face when they get into the spirit of Christmas is all it takes to make a parent slow down and embrace the merry season. This typically starts with Christmas activities!

Christmas craft ideas

It is no secret kids love doing arts and crafts, it is also no secret that craft is beneficial for children and their development. (CLICK THE LINK TO SEE HOW). But most importantly, it is fun. If you and your little ones want to get into the spirit of Christmas make sure you create these festive Christmas activities seen below!

Bauble Decorating

Decorating your own baubles can be so much fun. Not many crafts items are required to make this and yet you can create something special and that will treasured for years to come.

You will need: plain bauble, paint, glitter, sequins/confetti.

How to: Design your bauble and craft a beautiful decoration. You can use the paint to make a pattern, add glitter or sequins to wet paint (this eliminates the need for glue). My 2 year old daughter thought feathers were fun so added as many that would physically stick on.

Once you have your beautiful bauble looking how you like it, hang it up to dry.

Christmas Card Making

Christmas cards are almost an essential part of the season. Instead of using the same old generic cards though, create unique ones at home. You can show of your creative flare and add that extra love we all want at Christmas.

You will need: Cardboard, paint, tinsel, glitter, sequins/confetti, pens

How to: If your cardboard is not already cut to size, cut it and then fold in half. Draw/paint/glue your design on the card and let it fry before writing your special message inside.

Each of my kids created completely differently cards with the same items, it is great to see how their imagination and creativity allows them to be so different.

Mini Wreaths

These mini wreaths are so incredibly easy to make! Requiring only two products to make them, they are extremely budget friendly and make a great decoration or gift.

You will need: Pipe cleaners, bells (in assorted colours and sizes)

How to: Thread the bells onto the pipe cleaner, alternating the direction with each one. Leave a little pipe cleaner spare at the end so you can close it off. Twist the ends and hang it on your Christmas tree!

The Christmas craft ideas are simple and easy to make which makes them great for children of all ages. My two year old had an absolute ball, as did my 6 and 8 year olds. The is no age limit for craft and each child / adult deserves to get into the Christmas spirit! Ho Ho Ho!

What are your favourite Christmas craft activities?

Santa’s Sack Christmas Giveaway 2015

Christmas is so close I can almost the turkey, glazed ham and pavlova! As you all a few weeks ago my daughter was born (a couple of weeks early) which unfortunately meant that everything I planned to have ready before the birth didn’t quite get done. This included my annual Christmas Giveaway!

Don’t worry though – it is still going ahead, just a little later than I would have liked! For those who have followed my blog in previous years, you know that I will conduct a quick review of each of these products and then offer one to giveaway to lucky All Mum Said readers. WooHoo! Let’s get on with it.

I love that Tesoro jewellery is affordable and has something gorgeous for every price range.

SmarTrike Explorer

Like everything we buy for our kids, we want to get the most value for money that we can. This is where the SmarTrike Explorer is perfect; it is essentially 5 trikes in 1 with the same (and more) features of a stroller. I love that this innovative product grows with your child from approx. 10 months through to 3 years of age. If this doesn’t give you value for money I don’t know what does! We all know some kids need help to stay entertained while you are doing your daily run-a-rounds or while out on your daily walk, this will certainly achieve that goal.

Stage 1: Sleeping Mode – Ideal from 10 months, this is perfect for walks and outings as your little one can nap while on the go thanks to the impressive 110° reclining seat. The benefits don’t end there though, it features built-in suspension and shock absorbing rubber wheels in addition to providing little ones with weak back and shoulder muscles the support the need. For parents who have tried similar trikes, this is offers full control as the front wheel swivels an amazing 360° which also means it is super easy to steer!

Stage 2 & 3 : Stroller Mode – For those active little ones who want to just get in and do what the big kids are doing, they can pedal and steer. Parents still have control of direction as the child’s steering handle is separately controlled to the parents handle which means it can be disengaged. Using this feature, the child can steer without it actually affecting the trikes direction. The pedals can be folded in for safety if your child isn’t quite up to learning that. The pedals can also be isolated from the front wheel as they learn at their pace.

Stage 4: Trike Mode – Ideal for approx. 2 year olds; by simply pressing the Navigation button it transforms from stroller to trike mode. This option gives toddlers more control as they grow in confidence while parents still maintain control if required.

Stage 5: Child Control – Your child can now have full control of the bike with the parent handle being removable.

Available in a wide range of colours, the SmarTrike Explorer is available from Target, Big W and Toy ‘R’ Us.

Prize Includes: 1x SmarTrike Explorer 5 trikes in 1 (Purple in colour as above). RRP $199.95.

Code Castor Board & Helmet

For the active kids in your life, check out the new Code Castor Board! It is fun and encourages children to get outside and enjoy the fresh air while getting exercise. The Castor Board features cast alloy trucks, high quality cast PU wheels and ABEC 5 bearings; so you know it is strong enough to take a beating from rough and tumble kids.

Available in wide range of funky colour combos and Code also have helmets to match. These can be purchased from independent retailers.

Prize Includes: 1x Code Castor Board *RRP $100* & 1x Code Helmet *RRP $50* (winners choice of colours) Total Prize $150.00.

Globber MyFREE Up Scooter

Young children want to get involved and try new things as well, especially if they have older brothers and sisters like my daughter does. She sees them riding their scooters and wants to do it too. Unfortunately their scooters are far too big for her, she is only 2 after all. But lucky for her Globber have seen that their is a hole in the market catering safe and practical rides for these young ones. The MyFREE Up is designed for kids aged 3+ (up to max 50kg) and full of features that make learning this new skill safe and fun. The deck is lower to the ground which means better stability, steering lock button that makes it easier to steer and the T-BAR handle bar adjusts at 3 different heights to cater to your growing child. The design is not only stylish but the ride is smooth as well! Available in dark blue, green, pink, purple and red.

Prize Includes: 1x Globber MyFREE Up (winners choice of colour) RRP $130.00.

PhotoBox

Online printing has never been easier than it is with PhotoBox. They have a huge range of products that can be personalised, gifted and enjoyed – perfect for Christmas gifts! I impressed by their speedy turn around time, items were printed and received within a week and a half. I ordered a few canvas prints that turned out beautifully and a new coffee mug because I believe you can never have enough of those.

The canvas prints come in a range of sizes and thicknesses. I just got the standard size (which is thinner than every other canvas I have purchased elsewhere), if you want thicker ones you have to pay extra. This is also the case if you want hanging things included, they do not come attached either. I was surprised by this but cannot complain about the price or quality.

The mug on the other hand, I absolutely love!! I personalised it with photos of my family, a background that suited my taste and my absolute favourite part is the silver glitter interior. There were a couple of glitter options or plain bright colours but I cannot go past some glitter. Love it to bits!! There are so many sales and discounts on products at the moment as well so it is perfect for getting  gifts at bargain prices.

Prize Includes: 1x $100 PhotoBox voucher. RRP $100.00.

Oricom UHF CB Radios

Anyone who has ever purchased Oricom products knows that they will have them for a long time. This is thanks to the superior quality they are known for. These Oricom PMR1290 UHF radios are no different.  These handheld radios are perfect for the adventurer, road trips, four wheel driving!

With endless features, you will be thrilled with this pack. It includes: 2x handheld two-ways, twin charging pod, AC adaptor, rechargeable batteries and belt clips. The radios are 1 watt with 80 channels (75 usable channels) with backlit display and channel busy indicator. I could go on about the monitor feature, channel scan Duplex, keypad lock, etc. but you get the idea. I will say the battery life is impressive and you will not be disappointed. These handy sized radios have everything you would want at an affordable price and come with a 3 year warranty, not that I think you will need it! Oricom have a wide range of UHF radios to suit every need but this set packs a punch and is easy to use. To stay up to date with the latest products and events – Like their Facebook page.

Prize Includes: 1x Set of Oricom PMR1290 UHF Radios. RRP $99.95.

Misfit Shine

Until recently I hadn’t heard of the Misfit Shine. Now however, it doesn’t come off my wrist which is great that it doubles as a watch! It helps me to stay motivated, which is essentially helping me to lose some of the weight I gained during pregnancy. I have set myself a goal, one that I know is achievable and gradually increase it to suit my improving fitness. I like that this tracks my activity throughout the day but I love that it tracks my sleep patterns as well. I have been able to regulate my sleep habits to improve the rest I do get. If you wanted to get really serious about fitness, you can use it to log your meals, it is 50m waterproof, doesn’t require recharging (just replace the battery when it is needed) and you can input which particular activity you will be doing – cycling, running, walking, swimming, etc.

In addition to this, it is stylish and doesn’t look or feel like an activity tracker. I have actually been complemented several times on it!

Prize Includes: 1x Misfit Shine (colour – Seaglass). RRP $89.95.

Smiggle

Smiggle is a household name when it comes to stationary and back to school goodies. I am a huge stationary lover so I am always on the scout for fun and unique office equipment. My kids are also the same when it comes to school items like their school bags, pencil cases, pens, etc. This year one of my boys had a Smiggle school bag and I am so impressed with the quality, with only a couple of weeks of school remaining his backpack is still in perfect condition (with the exception of it being a bit dirty). With ample pockets and storage space, I don’t have to worry about their lunch box not fitting, their homework folder being too large or where they will put their lunch money. They will definitely be getting them again for next year. I love that Smiggle release exciting new characters, prints and products to keep kids interested in what is usually quite mundane.

Smiggle is our typical go to shop for not just back to school, but also stocking stuffers, treats and birthday gifts.

Curash Essentials Pack

The well-known household brand Curash has been a saviour with my newborn. She got nappy rash when she was only a couple of weeks old and within days of using the nappy rash cream it was completely cleared up. I am not usually a fan of thick zinc like products (similar to Sudocrem) but that is more to do with the tub they come in and how you have to scoop your fingers in the tub; the Curash nappy rash cream comes in a tube which is so much better. I like it more because I believe it is more hygienic and the cream doesn’t get stuck underneath my finger nails. Majority of the other products in the picture above are used daily for her bath and after bath care. She loves massages so the sorbolene cream is perfect for keeping her precious skin protected.

Prize Includes:  1x Curash Anti Rash Baby Powder 100g, 1x Curash Medicated Nappy Rash Cream 100gm, 1x Curash Multi Healing Cream 75g, 1x Curash Soap Free Baby Bath 400ml, 1x Curash Shampoo & Conditioner 400ml, 1x Curash Sorbolene Cream 400ml, 3x Curash Fragrance Free Wipes Bulk Pack. Total Prize: $55.69.

Love To Dream

Summer is officially here which means that it’s time to pack the heavy blankets into the linen cupboard. Every parent is different but I personally don’t like putting blankets on my baby, I have this fear they will wriggle down and suffocate. This is why I have always been a fan of baby sleeping bags. We are currently using the Love To Dream Nuzzlin Sleep Bag, 0.2 TOG, which is perfect for Summer because it is equivalent to having a nice light sheet over them. The fabric is super soft on sensitive skin but strong enough to withstand the washing machine and tumble dryer. It is soft, stretchy and comfortable! To find out else I love about the Love To Dream Nuzzlin CLICK HERE or to purchase visit the Love To Dream website.

Prize Includes: 1x Love To Dream Nuzzlin 0.2 TOG Sleep Bag (winner can select size and colour) RRP $44.95.

Mox

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I wear thongs/pluggers/flip flops all year round. This is not just a recent thing, I have worn them since as far back as I can remember. A surprise to some lately though, I have been changing it up! I have been hitting the footpaths, shopping centres and local parks in my new emerald green Mox shoes. They are slip-ons that are made from 100% man made rubber and they are unbelievably comfortable, even with my broad foot! When they arrived in the mail, I couldn’t wait to see what they looked like in person. I was so impressed with the vibrancy of the colour and they came in a gorgeous red reusable string bag (that my 2 year old daughter has now claimed). Mox shoes are comfortable, stylish and practical!

Prize Includes: 1x Mox voucher for the shoes of their choice. RRP $39.99.

Indie & Sloan

We all know a little fashionista that likes to wear the finer things and for me, that is my 2 year old daughter. She loves anything a little unique, different and fun. For children like this; Indie and Sloan is the answer! They have a wide range of fun printed t-shirts to suit each and every personality, I just wish I could get some in my size. My daughter choose the Tea Cup Doll shirt and I dare say it was because it has pink and a mad hatter type print on it. I personally love the neon pink ink (it is water based for those concerned) and the shirt is soft 180 GSM 100% Combed Cotton. To view the rest of the Indie & Sloan products CLICK HERE.

Prize Includes: 1x Indie & Sloan tee (winner can choose print and size). RRP $35.95.

Artline

Artline has taken being artistic to a new level! Pens aren’t just pens anymore. They are build-able colouring markers and with the addition of connections and toys, the Artline Stix range will have children happily occupied and entertained this Christmas! I love that each of the new products in the range are affordable and would make fantastic stocking stuffers for kids who enjoy drawing, building and being basically being creative. *The prize cannot be purchased in this pack shown but they can be bought in each individual package.

Prize Includes: 1x Artline Stix sampler pack. RRP $29.00.

Gyrofish

Cleverkeet – Little Live Pets Review

Christmas is only just around the corner which means the wish lists are starting to grow! Santa is going to have to work the elves from sun up to sun down to get the presents ready in time; especially with all the amazing new toys being put on shelves recently.

As many parents will have experienced over the years, children often ask Santa for pets for Christmas. This could be any pet; a dog, a cat, a bird or even a fish. Unfortunately pets aren’t suitable for everyone though and often circumstances simply don’t allow it. This is where Little Live Pets from Moose is the perfect compromise!

Cleverkeet Review

Cleverkeet is an interactive robo-pet that dances, talks, responds to your voice and can even drive its very own birdie cart. This bird is smart!

When your child first opens their new ‘pet’ and gives it a name, this very clever bird will remember it. Like the other Little Live Pets, Cleverkeet can record and repeat messages but it also does so much more.

Just like a real pet, this Cleverkeet requires some creature comforts at home which it comes standard with. Included is its very own playground which contains: a swing, a mirror, a dance floor and a perch. He also enjoys playing, dancing, eating and drinking from his food perch and being carried around while having a chat with his new best friend.

He can often be a little too into himself as he loves showing off while dancing in front of his mirror. Your child is going to absolutely love their new pet and you will be grateful there is no mess, no food and fuss associated with owning such a cute feathered friend.

Suitable for children aged 5+ this is going to be a Christmas favourite. Available in pink or blue from major retailers for RRP $79.95!

What is on your child’s wish list this year?

My boys loves board games; they always have. It doesn’t seem to make a difference whether it is Monopoly, Scrabble, Operation, Connect Four or their latest favourite Make ‘N’ Break.

Make ‘N’ Break Board Game

Make ‘N’ Break is a Ravensburger board game that requires players to pick a card and build the structure on their chosen card, paying attention to the detail of colours and order of each block. The challenge is that while you must keep your hands and fingers steady to build, you are also timed and must complete as many different structures as possible before your time runs out.

It is recommended for ages 8-99 however my 6 year old absolutely loves it so I think as long as your child is old enough to know not to put the dice in their mouth, they should be fine. I love that this game is educational. It teaches children hand eye co-ordination in addition to paying attention to detail and patterns. It combines luck with communication, creativity and action.

Make ‘N’ Break can take as long or as little time as you like. It doesn’t have to drag out and become boring, keep the game exciting by making and breaking these whacky structures as fast as you can! This exciting board game can be played with as little as 2 people and makes learning fun.

Make ‘N’ Break includes: 1 timer, 10 building blocks, 60 building cards, 1 dice.

You can purchase Make ‘N’ Break from Child.com.au for RRP $34.99.

If you are looking for a new game to keep the kids entertained; this is a great board game for Christmas, those rainy days or just because you feel like playing!

With the start of another school term; the final one for the year, comes another round of stocking up on pencils, glue and rubbers.

It seems to be never ending. I don’t know whether the kids actually use all their stationary, they lose it or someone takes their property. But whatever the reason for them going through so much of it is; I am going to do everything to ensure that if they misplace it, someone will return it.

Putting labels on their items is a great way to ensure their belongings are named. Personalised labels are even better, for a few reasons.

1 – I don’t have to write their name repeatedly and 2 – you can personalise it to suit their interests. It’s a win – win!

I have labelled the kids items this term with stickers from Skool Labels. They personalise labels for kids and because they specialise in kid’s interests, they know exactly what to offer.

They have options in a few different product ranges. Name labels come in: Classic stick ons (prices from $16.95 for 36 labels), Small stick ons (prices from $14.95 for 36 labels), Square stick ons (prices from $12.95 for 22 labels) and circle stick ons (prices from $12.95 for 18 labels).

As a result of them being waterproof and dishwasher safe, these are perfect for lunch containers, water bottles, school books, etc.

The pencil labels, while they are great for labelling pencils and markers, they are also the perfect size for glasses. Never again do you have to worry about lost glasses. Price: $19.95 for 130 labels.

The iron on labels will ensure your child never loses their uniform, clothing at day care, towel at swimming, etc. They are washing machine and tumble dryer safe! Prices from $14.95 for 42 labels.

Each of these label options are available in a range of colours, fonts and icons. They make personalising seriously and ensure kids feel like individuals. They are bright, fun and would put a smile on every child’s face.

In case the great quality and range doesn’t have you interested; perhaps the FREE SHIPPING and three day dispatch will have you fascinated.

DISCOUNT!!

To celebrate the return of term 4, Skool Labels are offering 20% OFF ALL Skool Labels.

Purchase between 28th September to 4th October and use the promo code BTS20 to receive your discount!

Disclosure: I received the above Skool Labels for the purpose of this review. All Opinions are my own.

Imaginative play is encouraged in children from the moment they are old enough to play. For most kids this is something that comes naturally. For others, they sometimes need a little encouragement. This is where the assistance of toys come in.

Last month I wrote an article about the benefits of pretend play for pre-schoolers and toddlers (check it out and share it if you haven’t already!); today I am going to review one of the items I mentioned in that post and let you know why it is a favourite.

Melissa & Doug Sandwich Making Set

Prior to having children, both my husband and I were chefs. Obviously this means there is a passion for food in our home that our kids pick up on. We expect in no way that they follow our footsteps or even share this culinary interest; however like most kids, at some point they have all expressed a desire to learn and incorporate food into everyday play. This is when products like the MELISSA & DOUG Sandwich Making Set come in handy.

Obviously we do not want to be making real sandwiches, picnics and snacks every minute of the day. Not only would that be time consuming but it would result in an extremely costly hobby as well. The sandwich making kit allows children to create their picnic lunch with their favourite ingredients, without any mess or fuss. With the choice of bread or burger buns, they can begin their food creations. Adding lettuce, tomato, cheese, capsicum, meat patty, etc. they learn about not just the order ingredients are placed but also about the individual food items as well.

The sandwich making kit is a 17 piece wooden set that includes 16 sliceable pieces and a wooden knife. The pieces velcro together which not only holds your child’s sandwich in one piece but also adds a ‘crunch’ sound when cut with the knife. Mimicking real life lunch! Just in case you are concerned about how to store the pieces when not in play; the sandwich making set comes with a wooden serving tray that makes the perfect organisation box for sandwich pieces when not in use.

Poppet (Miss 2) is a food fanatic and loves nothing more than getting out her Melissa & Doug sandwich making kit. She will continually make ‘lunch’, eat it, make it again, feed it to someone else and the process just repeats. In the past few weeks, this kit has undergone an extreme taste test and is still in perfect condition. As I have come to expect from Melissa & Doug products; they are built to last! You can find the mentioned sandwich making kit here at child.com.au.

Want 20% off? To receive a 20% discount off Melissa & Doug products – use discount code: MND20.

I have always been fanatic about putting sunscreen on the kids, even as babies.  However I always forget about protecting myself. It is just as important for parents to protect their skin as it is for their children. Last week I had a suspicious mole removed which is now serving as a very good reminder why it is so important to not only use protection from the sun but also to have regular mole checks.

Banana Boat SPF 50+ Sunscreen

Brands make it easy for parents these days to know which sunscreens are suitable for what children and which age groups. Oh and of course their parents. Banana Boat recently offered me some samples of their SPF 50+ sunscreen lotions, sprays and roll on options. There is something about the smell of them that has always made me want to get outside and enjoy the sunlight. Or maybe it is just the old Banana Boat ad that instantly starts playing in my head!

Sunscreen Options

Just like clothing is made differently and hats come in different sizes; sunscreen also have their protection features. Each to suit a different kind of person.

Sport

This 400ml pump bottle is 4 hour water resistant and designed to be non-greasy. Made with the Australian sun in mind; your family can enjoy hours of protection in the sun with the Sport SPF 50+. Perfect for the whole family!

Kids spray

With the most advanced protection, this SPF 50+ spray bottle offers kids very high protection from the sun in a convenient sunscreen spray. It is 4 hour water resistant and as it is designed for kids; the non-greasy formula won’t run into their little eyes. The spray makes it so easy to apply to your child and is gentle on their delicate skin while remaining tough against the sun.

Kids roll on

This option is exactly the same as the Kids spray above however in a convenient roll on bottle. This makes it easy to carry and even easier for the kids to apply themselves. All the same benefits but in a handy 75ml roll on bottle!

Baby spray

I love that this sunscreen spray is SPF 50+ whilst remaining mild and gentle with no added fragrance. This allows it to be suitable for the delicate skin of a baby. Featuring the same benefits as the kids spray option; 4 hour water resistant, won’t run into eyes and a very easy to use spray, this sunscreen has babies and their parents in mind.

It is no surprise that the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends the SPF 50+ Banana Boat products. They are reliable, trustworthy and convenient. For more information on the Banana Boat Kids and Baby range see here or if you would like to read more about the importance of protecting yourself from the sun.
