Setting Up House with Kmart + GIVEAWAY

12/08/2013 By All Mum Said 116 Comments

It was almost 10 years ago that my husband and I first moved out of home and into our very own place. I remember it like it was only a few years ago, I guess I’m really showing my age considering we have 3 kids and the eldest is 6 and a half. From memory we didn’t have anything new, we stocked our love nest with hand-me-downs and as grateful as we are/were for people so kindly donating their old stuff to us we would have loved some new things for our home. Unfortunately we were broke after paying rent and groceries so pretty things were out of the question. When my sister moved out and into her own place we took to Kmart to get some essentials and I found that things were so much more affordable now than what they were when I left home. Not only the essentials but they have now also got an extended Kmart Living range which consists of basically anything and everything you could want for your home at ridiculously low prices.

As you can see there are a great deal of items that are perfect to set you up or even just change the atmosphere of your home. There is everything you could want for your kitchen – dinner sets, pots/pans, tea towels, utensils, containers, small fridges, chopping boards, toasters, kettles, baking trays, etc. The Living range is so versatile and consists of everything from bathroom goods, storage, lamps, décor, cushions, rugs, towels, TV units, coffee tables, bed linen and the list just goes on. Check out your local Kmart or even online for the latest products for your home.

Oh I forgot to mention I have a $100 Kmart gift card to giveaway to one very lucky reader of Mad Mummas.

To enter all you have to do is follow the instructions on the rafflecopter below. Winner is decided based on skill and chance plays no part. Australian residents only! Sorry everyone else. **The mandatory instructions MUST be completed or your entry will be void!**

a Rafflecopter giveaway

GOOD LUCK

I’ve just begun looking at how I can utilize the shelving space in my wardrobe to avoid the urge to aimlessly throw pieces of clothing in.. and to prevent the need to quickly slam the doors closed before an avalanche of clothes lands on me!

I’m looking for functionality – I want to feel that in my tiny closet everything has a place. With the minimalist look in mind, I would love nothing more than to stack the over-sized shelves in my closet with the fantastic sea grass baskets sold at Kmart. The only problem is the price tag, and a $100 voucher would definitely ease my guilty, over-organizational conscience!

With twin toddlers destroying the place,
Everything within reach below my waist,
Either needs to be fixed or replaced.
Plastic containers I have no more,
The floor rug now has piddle stains galore!
Forks and spoons are all bent out of shape,
And the kitchen handles are being held on with tape!
So what would I buy if I actually won?
‘Bob The Builder’ so he could fix all that my twin girls have done!

Not possessing an ounce of interior decorating ability, I look at the shambles that decorate our house and shake my head. The only way I am going to bring it all together with some needed pizzazz is by finding pictures of rooms that I like in magazines and copying that decor.

Starting with one room and then working on the next I will go equipped with my ripped out magazine pages and start my search. From cushions to linen, vases to crockery; it may take a while before it all comes together but at least I won’t make decorating mistakes and waste money like I have in the past. The work and thinking has already been done for me, now I am just on a game of find and seek.

I would also like to buy him a few pairs of sling back thongs and cute little boy sandals as we’re hoping he will be walking by Christmas. He will definitely need some shoes to protect his little feet from the hot bitumen that our Australian summers bring.

    $100 goes a long way

From greying hair to colourful hey!

And then there’s all that beauty buys

Face wash, lipstick, blusher and some kajol would be nice!

    OR

    Need a new winter jacket

My old is worn and faded

And omg all those gorgeous shoes,

Heals, flats, boots – to give my confidence a standing boost!

    OR

How about a nice soft scarf or some lingerie,

New clothes and hats, a sophisticated reflection I’d love to see!

    OR

I once saw a necklace so divine

With some money to spare it could be mine!

I’m a stationary freak, love colours and glam

I’ll buy some gel pens and hide them from my fam!

    OR

Almost forgot about my musky handbag

Need one that’s organised and not like an old shaggy rag!

A wallet to store my cards and cash

So that when it’s time for shopping to Kmart I can dash!

    OR

Wait, maybe I’ll buy a good book or two

Been dying to read ‘50 Shades of Grey’,

Take that back I’ll buy an expensive perfume spray!

    $100 goes a long way

For mummy’s who work night n day

No annual leave or salary pay

They deserve a spoiling n pampering in every possible way

Three cheers for these amazing ladies- hip hip hooray!!!

I’d love to buy some new baking trays as they are looking the worse for wear (my darling husband has managed to scratch every single one of them despite me telling him not to cut up food on them!). Also would love some storage baskets/drawers to house all the ‘little’ pieces of toys (blocks, railway tracks, farm animals) that my son recently received for his 2nd birthday, instead of just shoving them all under his bed every night so I don’t end up standing on them. And finally, maybe a pretty rug or throw for my baby girl’s room, as it needs a ‘pink’ lift!

If I won this I would be shopping up a storm buying some home essentials – cups, plates, bowls, oven trays, tongs etc ….. so that I don’t end up moving into a pathetically empty home :)

Wow I agree with you, Kmart is so affordable! It’s a breath of fresh air.

With $100, I’m going to have a mini-makeover for my kitchen. We’re hosting Christmas lunch this year and I am not a very good cook so I need all the help I can get from plates and decors so guests won’t notice my average cooking. Hehe. There are a lot of nice things from their Homeware section that I want to get such as dinner set, wine glasses, placement mats, napkins, table cloth, tea towels and candles.

And if I have some money left, I might get Pink – Greatest Hits So Far CD as a treat for myself. Can’t remember the last time I bought a CD, must have been at least a decade ago.

A slow-cooker. Somebody may or may not have broken our slow-cooker in the past week. I’m not pointing any fingers, because I’m fairly certain I did it. It’s such a shame too, because our slow-cooker was the most productive chef in the family.

I’d spend $100 on Australia’s Choice Decadent cookies! K-mart is the ONLY place to get them over here and there the most delicious cookies in the world. I would love a huge supply so this Christmas i can make a Decadent cookie Christmas tree for my table centrepiece!

I would give $50 each to my kids and ask them to buy an outfit each so that they can understan how much things cost. Although Kmart is so cheap these days, I will have to tell them that they wouldn’t get as much for their money elsewhere!

I browsed K-Mart’s online catalogue from beginning to end!
    Here’s what I’d buy if I had a $100 gift card to spend –
    1. At $25.00, the Queen Bed ‘Lily’ Quilt Cover Set,
to make over our bedroom, it’s the best you can get!
    2. At $29.00, the ‘Children’s Mirror on Stand’
will make daughter’s bedroom the cutest in the land!
    3. For $12.00, the Jacquard Satin Stripe Shower Curtain – Blue,
For an ocean-themed bathroom, only this one will do!
    4. For the kitchen, the Mini Cake Ball Baking Kit,
It’s only $12.00 and is sure to be a hit!
    5. Now to make the living room lovely and bright,
the $9.00 ‘Purple Stripe Dita Lamp’ brings colour and light!
    6. For $12.00, to keep everything in its place,
the ‘Vacuum Seal Storage Bags’ will save lots of space!
    7. Now just $1.00 to spend – can I find something sweet?
Ooh! The ‘Apple and Rhubarb Candle’ looks hard to beat!

I’ve got my eye on an amazing quilt cover I saw in the Kmart catalogue the other day. It’s gorgeous – blue tones, with a dip dyed sort of look (I’d get the catalogue to get you the exact name, but I’m currently stuck under a finally sleeping sick bubba!)!!
But it is exactly what I’ve been looking for to replace our current comforter which is falling to bits – literally!

We’re in the process of selling our house; my dad said to me the other day “Kaz, if you only buy one new thing to spruce up your house, make sure it’s a new toilet brush for your toilet, you don’t want prospective buyers looking at your old one and imaging all sorts of awful things you’ve cleaned with it”…..Yeah thanks dad. So, I’d buy a new toilet brush, all the while muttering to myself why on earth I was spending part of my precious $100 gift card on something that cleans my toilet!

First of all you have to totally take pity on me. My ‘local’ Kmart is over 400kms away, that would give me approximately four hours drive to decide what I’d like.

Secondly, I share a 3 x 3m room with hubby which is a mix of boring man office and creative girl cave. His side of the room contains a 2 x 1.8m boring Government grey monstrosity of a desk. My side houses a beautiful pine desk with white chair. I think, for me to push him out and gain the whole room to myself I would have to spend most of the voucher on anything pretty and girlie.

I’d definitely purchase some homewares from Kmart. I need some new photo frames to hang some family photos we recently had taken. And I’d also love some insulated glasses to drink my coffee from. I’m sure I’d still have some money left after that so maybe I’d purchase something for myself too – new exercise clothes.
