Shaving VS Other Hair Removal Methods

Are you sick of having to shave your legs all the time? Does it seem like you always cut yourself when you do shave? Shaving is still a quick, simple and cheap method of getting rid of body hair. But there are other ways of removing hair; some of them even permanent.

We’re going to take a look at shaving and how it compares to hair removal creams, waxing and HPL hair removal. All of them have something to offer. We’re going to discuss their benefits so that you can make an informed choice.

HPL hair removal

HPL is a safe method of permanent hair removal at home. It’s an adaptation of IPL hair removal which has been in existence since the 1990s. HPL hair removal is particularly suited to the home environment. HPL devices use pulses of light which are attracted to the pigment in hairs, causing a burst of heat in the hair which burns the hair follicle and destroys growth cells. This stops any further hair growth in that follicle. As hair grows in cycles it’s necessary to have 8-12 treatments to kill off all hair growth.

Hair removal creams

Hair removal creams are a lot easier to use and sweeter smelling than they used to be. It’s relatively easy and cheap to remove body hair using this method. It also has the advantage of being pain free. Although hair may grow back finer as the cream dissolves the hair under the skin, this is not a permanent solution like HPL hair removal; hair does keep growing back.

Waxing

Many women choose to wax areas such as their bikini line. Coarse, thick hair like that found at the bikini line is perfected for waxing. The fact that the hairs are pulled out at the root means that they tend to grow back in a less dense manner.  It’s important to remember that hair should be at least a quarter of an inch long before you wax. You should also remember to try and avoid excessive heat or exercise for a day after you’ve waxed. This helps to prevent your skin becoming irritated.

Shaving

We’ve taken a look at a lot of other hair removal options and now we’re back with shaving. Although it can seem like you have to shave all the time, there is no truth in the saying that hairs grow back faster and thicker each time you shave. That being said, shaving is not a permanent, or even very long lasting, form of hair removal. It is quick though and it’s cheap. You need to be careful you invest in a decent razor though, and that you don’t try and go too fast, or it can end up looking like you’re in a scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

There is nothing wrong with any of these forms of hair removal; choice is often down to preference. It’s important to remember though that of these methods only HPL hair removal products give you permanent results.

What is your preferred hair removal methods?

This is an S2 POST.

Growing up in a house full of girls my brother and step-dad were outnumbered. There was 4 of us and only two of them. This of course meant whether they liked it or not they had to endure conversations about boys, periods, shaving and bras. Just what every boy and man wants to talk about. Back then it didn’t really occur to me that girls don’t often talk to their fathers about this type of thing because my dad welcomed us to talk to him about anything. Well anything until the day we asked for a boy to be in our room, then the ball game changed.

I’m sure there are many dads out there who also have an open door policy when it comes to their daughters but there will always be the ones that are a little shyer and may feel uncomfortable talking about female issues or offering advice in these areas. While mothers obviously have more expertise with these subjects, it is nice for daughters to feel they can talk to their dads about this stuff too.

At some point in a girl’s life she is going to want to shave and of course the questions start. Is she old enough? Is shaving, waxing or hair removal cream better? How high up their legs should they go or should they stop just above/below the knee? Veet have created a ‘Hairy Questions Kit’ which has everything girls and even women could need to find out what option works best for them. The Hairy Questions Kit includes four great products that RRP $50 but can be purchased in the kit for only $25 with FREE delivery. That’s a bargain if ever I’ve heard one! You can purchase the Hairy Questions Kit here.

Veet have put together a short video where daughters ask their dads some of life’s ‘Hairy Questions’ and see if they can answer them. Some of the questions are about boys, fashion, how to get boys attention, PMS, etc. and their dads answers are well worth watching. (See video above)

Would your husband or father have answered them differently?
