How To Save Money On Bedroom Furniture

The bedroom should be the most relaxing room of your home. Your sanctuary in all the crazy.

Unfortunately because we tend to just close the door, the furniture within your refuge is often outdated and drab. Over time this can lead to it being the most avoided room of your house. Don’t let that happen to your haven.

Update your bedroom and not spend a fortune

Does your bedroom need a freshen up? An overhaul? Perhaps you think you don’t have the money to achieve the look you lust over but you can add charm without spending a large amount of money. Here is how:

Research – Research is everything! Jump online and find out the average price of the bedroom furniture you are looking for, the delivery costs associated if this is required and then ring the local stockists and see what sort of deal they can do for you.

Buy on sale – Sounds simple enough, right? This is part of your research. Find out when stores will be having sales, get online and check. Read your junk mail and wait until the sales start to make your purchase. Bedroom furniture is expensive so never pay full price!

Haggle – This is crucial to getting a bargain! If you cannot haggle, take someone with you who can. Play the retailers against one another until you get a price you are happy with. You can even offer to take floor stock but ensure you get a further discounted price, particularly with beds and mattresses because every Joe Blow and his dog have been laying it!

Upcycle / refurbish – Upcycling has become extremely popular for those who want new things but cannot afford it. It allows the purchaser to buy it cheap and add their own creativity to produce a one of a kind personalised item.
Tip: When searching for bedroom furniture to refurbish, look for sturdy pieces that will last longer than your chosen bedroom theme. This will then give you the option to upcycle again at a later date or sell it. Check out these great DIY room ideas for inspiration!

Second hand – If you cannot afford to purchase items brand new; look on your local Buy, Swap and Sell pages on Facebook, visit nearby thrift stores and even check out weekend garage sales. You can often find bed frames, bedside tables, chest of drawers, etc. that are in near new condition for just a portion of the retail price. The only downside to this is that you don’t get the warranty that you would if you were to buy it from a store.

Accessories – Accessories are your best friend. They can brighten up the room, add life to the area and just give it a fresher and more up to date overview without having to replace all your bedroom furniture.

Everyone wants to feel relaxed and inspired when they walk into their bedroom. They want that sense of calm and hominess to wash over them as they enter. Don’t let your old, dark furniture be the eye sore of your home.

Use these tips to create the bedroom you want while staying in your budget!

How do you save money on bedroom furniture?

Ever walked into a friend’s room and felt that the vibe was just right? Did you then go home and realise that yours doesn’t give you the same relaxed feeling? A lot of people prefer to invest time and styling efforts into statement rooms like the lounge and kitchen while the bedroom often gets ignored. It’s quite bizarre actually, given the bedroom is the one room in your home where you spend most of your alone and sleeping time, it’s the one place that needs essences of your personality to create that Zen-like ambiance bedroom you so madly dream of. If you’re renting or don’t have the funds to remodel the entire room, don’t fret, there are plenty of cheap and creative ways you can dress a room that won’t break the bank. Here are some ideas to get you inspired.

DIY Artwork

DIY artwork is the décor of choice for hipsters and yuppie mothers; who can blame them? There are thousands of ways to make beautiful art that’s unique to your home, leaving you assured that you’re not going to find the same mass-produced photo lurking in 50,000 other homes. Doing it yourself also saves you unnecessary hours sifting through artwork to match your existing colour palette. Whether you’re a fan of quote art, metallic wall hangings, bold colour blocking pieces or a simple canvas finished with an ombre design, there’s always an idea to suit your style.

Light Patterned Table Lamp

There’s nothing worse than a light that induces a headache reminiscent of spending hours under a department stores fluorescent glare. If you’re trying to prepare your mind for a night full of REM peace, an overly bright light will trick your brain into thinking that it’s day time. Create a tranquil setting by investing in a bamboo woven lamp that creates light patterns across your room. Not only does it look cool, but the bamboo generates a dimly lit room perfect for when you want to wind down.

Hang Your Fanciest Items

Do you have an eclectic hat collection that’s been doomed to live a life behind the closed doors of your cupboard? Don’t hide them away anymore. Attach some removable hooks to your wall and hang up your fedora, trilby, beret, panama, boater, even your top hat for a functional display. You can do the same thing for statement pieces of jewellery, scarves or any cool collectables in your collection.

Statement Rug

A rug is a great way of tying a room together, therefore it’s important not to make it boring. You can put this under your comfortable bed (like a bed from http://www.latexmattress.com.au/), or if your room is big enough, spread it out in free space. Go for loud patterns, details, and interesting textures. Rug stores are always rattling on about their new closing down sale (we know you aren’t closing down) so take advantage of their reduced prices and pick yourself up a bargain.

I Miss Getting My Freak On

Lately I haven’t exactly been posting a lot of heartfelt or touching reads for you to enjoy and that has not been due to lack of content or ideas but more the fact that I have barely had time to catch my breath.

I have been so busy finalising assignments and studying for end of semester exams that everything (and I mean everything) has been put on the back burner. Sex is being traded for sleep (and that loved midnight nudge is dreaded), wine/vodka is traded for coffee (even on a Friday night) and meals are being replaced by sugar hits to keep me going. I cannot remember the last time I played at the park with the kids (to be honest I hate going to the park anyway but that’s a whole other story, the kids love it), I cannot remember the last time my husband and I went out for dinner alone or with the kids, the last time I had a proper conversation and wasn’t trying to multi task (study and keep up with the conversation) or even played artists with the kids, etc.

I feel like I haven’t ‘REALLY’ spoken nor had any in depth conversation with my husband in months or given him my undivided attention. I feel terribly bad about this as there doesn’t seem to be a happy medium at this point. It’s studying my absolute arse off and completely kind of ignore everyone else around me or fail. Neither option is favourable to me!

I have completed 2 exams and to my surprise received 100% in both!

YAY me!!

But as you can see it has come at a price, one that will be paid back 10 fold and may or may not come across as smothering when I’m finished my last exam.

On Tuesday, my last assessment for this semester will be held. It is extremely difficult and I’m not sure how I will go. I’m aiming for 50% (just so I can pass). I have paper stuck all over the walls of key points of information so that as I walk from room to room some of it may sink in. I’m not very optimistic but all I can do is try.

I am willing this study bullshit learning and mind expanding experience to be over, whose stupid idea was it for me to go back and study anyway? Oh right, it was mine.

REPEAT AFTER ME:
This will be beneficial for you in the long run!
This will bring opportunities for you when you are ready for them!
You have challenged yourself and you have succeeded!
When you complete this you can return to loving that midnight fireworks inducing romp and matinees!
(If that’s not encouragement I don’t know what is!)

Until next time, please have a stiff drink and in depth conversation for me, for yourself and most importantly go and get your freak on!!

When my boys were babies I fell in love with Plum Baby. Plum is a family owned business run by parents who actually have little ones of their own so they understand the importance of providing great quality garments. My boys grew out of their baby clothes well before they needed to be upgraded or replaced. If I remember correctly we used the same outfits for both our kids and then passed them onto friends – talk about value for money! But like I said – GREAT QUALITY! Garments of such comfort, quality and dare I say cuteness; the prices were and still are extremely reasonable.
Plum Baby are now also proud supporters of the SIDS and Kids National Safe Sleeping Program and have released comfortable, durable, easy to use (they have a very convenient zip, perfect to avoid having to wake the baby when changing or checking nappies!) and most importantly safe sleeping bags. These can be found in sizes 0-36 months.

Plum has recently released their winter range for this year and it will not disappoint! With so many delightful new ideas and prints that will blow you away with their appeal, you have so many more options. I must say that with winter on its way and the cold weather creeping up, Plum J’s are the perfect addition to every youngsters wardrobe. These adorable pyjamas are new to the Plum Winter Collection and can be purchased for boys and girls in a variety of styles and sizes.

Picture from Plum website

These pyjamas have not disappointed me, my family or thankfully my bank balance. My son has described them (repeatedly I might add) as super soft. He LOVES them! I am also happy they are soft and comfortable but I’m more pleased that they haven’t faded through washing and have held their shape well. (No shrinkage, YAY!) I must say though that being Plum I have come to expect nothing but the best and they haven’t failed me yet.

The Plum J’s are my favourite addition and I am so excited they have extended their range to accommodate growing kids. These gorgeous pyjamas are now available in sizes 0-7 and retail for only $24.95.
Are you a fan of Plum or Plum Baby? If you have a baby or kids you should spare 5 minutes to have a look through their range on the website Plum Baby. There are a growing number of stockists around the country, New Zealand and even the UK. Click here to find your nearest one.
If you’re not following Plum on Facebook you are missing out on very exciting updates. Pop on over to their Facebook page and say Hi. They are very warm and welcoming over there.

I was not paid for this post however I did receive some of these awesome pyjamas to review. The opinions expressed in this review are mine and not coerced. I will always be honest when reviewing products.
