Easy Christmas Craft Ideas For Kids

Christmas is a time of magic, creativity and joy.

Seeing the joy on a child’s face when they get into the spirit of Christmas is all it takes to make a parent slow down and embrace the merry season. This typically starts with Christmas activities!

Christmas craft ideas

It is no secret kids love doing arts and crafts, it is also no secret that craft is beneficial for children and their development. (CLICK THE LINK TO SEE HOW). But most importantly, it is fun. If you and your little ones want to get into the spirit of Christmas make sure you create these festive Christmas activities seen below!

Bauble Decorating

Decorating your own baubles can be so much fun. Not many crafts items are required to make this and yet you can create something special and that will treasured for years to come.

You will need: plain bauble, paint, glitter, sequins/confetti.

How to: Design your bauble and craft a beautiful decoration. You can use the paint to make a pattern, add glitter or sequins to wet paint (this eliminates the need for glue). My 2 year old daughter thought feathers were fun so added as many that would physically stick on.

Once you have your beautiful bauble looking how you like it, hang it up to dry.

Christmas Card Making

Christmas cards are almost an essential part of the season. Instead of using the same old generic cards though, create unique ones at home. You can show of your creative flare and add that extra love we all want at Christmas.

You will need: Cardboard, paint, tinsel, glitter, sequins/confetti, pens

How to: If your cardboard is not already cut to size, cut it and then fold in half. Draw/paint/glue your design on the card and let it fry before writing your special message inside.

Each of my kids created completely differently cards with the same items, it is great to see how their imagination and creativity allows them to be so different.

Mini Wreaths

These mini wreaths are so incredibly easy to make! Requiring only two products to make them, they are extremely budget friendly and make a great decoration or gift.

You will need: Pipe cleaners, bells (in assorted colours and sizes)

How to: Thread the bells onto the pipe cleaner, alternating the direction with each one. Leave a little pipe cleaner spare at the end so you can close it off. Twist the ends and hang it on your Christmas tree!

The Christmas craft ideas are simple and easy to make which makes them great for children of all ages. My two year old had an absolute ball, as did my 6 and 8 year olds. The is no age limit for craft and each child / adult deserves to get into the Christmas spirit! Ho Ho Ho!

What are your favourite Christmas craft activities?

Every year in preparation for the school year to begin I take it upon myself to get systemised. Not just the back to school equipment or the kids’ school station for bags, notes and homework; I do it with almost everything around the home and my office. It’s the time to clear out, tidy, stock up on supplies and most importantly get organised for the busy year ahead. If you’re anything like me then by the New Year you want new colours to freshen up your home, new accessories, something a little different than the year before. Unfortunately budget doesn’t always allow and so you either improvise, leave it the same until such time as you can change it or use the Scotch® Expressions Tape range to Make it Amazing! I wanted to share with you some wonderfully creative things you could do with a few simple items however time didn’t permit and so I’ve put together a few smaller projects that can be done in an afternoon to help you organised, add some colour and get ready for the year ahead.

With a few basic supplies your only limits are your imagination (and time). Get yourself some Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape, Scotch® Expressions Packaging Tape, scissors, whatever you would to make over and your creativity. As you can see I have added a new pen holder to my desk because my pen collection is getting a little out of control; it took approx. 10 minutes to make and got my desk tidier instantly.

I added some colour to a photo frame that has one of my favourite photos in it to bring a little bit of life to the bench that it sits on. Again this only took a couple of strips of Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape, my photo frame and about 2 minutes of my time.

Finding somewhere to store necklaces, hair bands, hair ribbons for school, etc. so they don’t get tangled can be hard so I use a wooden coat hanger and let them hang straight in my closet. Since the old wooden hanger isn’t much to look at I thought I’d jazz it up a little and make it fun. This took me about 20 minutes (I was watching TV at the time so it could have been done faster if I wasn’t preoccupied) and all I needed was some Scotch® Expressions Magic™ Tape, Scotch® Expressions Packaging Tape and some scissors. According to my boys my phone case was plain and boring as well so they created something full of life for me.

Food labelling

The uses don’t end there though and as you can see I also use it to mark food containers with dates, the boys had a blast creating images with Scotch® Expressions Tape and I have even seen someone make business card holders with it so I think it goes without saying the possibilities are endless! For more information, ideas and inspiration on what you can create go to the Scotch Facebook page ( Australia and New Zealand ). You will also find a great giveaway being run over there which requires you to upload your creations using Scotch® Expressions Tape and show how you ‘Make it Amazing’ for your chance to win 1 of 7 iPad Minis! *5 iPad Minis available in Australia and 2 in New Zealand.

In addition to that I am also running a giveaway for 3x Mad Mummas readers!

How to make Pom-Poms!! 1.    Use a compass or trace something circular onto cardboard – say around 5 cm diameters. 2.    Next draw a smaller circle in the centre of the large ones. 3.    Cut the circles out and you should be left with 2 donut shaped rings. 4.    Hold onto the end of the wool and start feeding it in and around the cardboard until you can no longer fit it through the hole. 5.    If you start a new colour or new piece of wool you don’t need to...

This is probably about as crafty as I will be ever be and the kids are pretty happy with that. On Saturday the boys and I made POM-POMS!! We had so much fun that I wanted to share it with you all. I hadn’t made them since I was in primary school and it was my boys first time.

5.    If you start a new colour or new piece of wool you don’t need to tie it on, just ensure the end is sticking out like the starting piece.
6.    The tricky bit is next – When it is full of wool, cut the wool around the edges between the pieces of cardboard.
7.    Pass a piece of wool between the 2 pieces of board and around all the wool. Tie together tightly.

8.    You can now remove the board.
9.    Tidy it up by trimming the wool.

10.      Enjoy your creation!!

I hope you and your kids (probably more your kids) have a lot of fun making these!! Mine did.

Well it is essentially a box filled to the brim with activities tailor made for 3-7 year olds. It can be purchased as a subscription of 2, 6 or 12 months. You will receive a new box full each month. They also offer a sibling package so you can get enough materials for another child for only $8 more.

 Lions in the Making! ROAR.

The activities are gender friendly while allowing children to embrace their imagination and enjoy progressive play. These Funky Elephant trunks are delivered nation-wide and postage costs are included in the subscription cost. The more months you purchase the larger the discount – for example if you buy the 12 month subscription you will only pay for 10 months.

As you may have noticed I am a huge fan of Aussie Mums starting up new business and if they innovative and unique like this (not to mention give Mums some quiet time) I want to share it!!

My Clowns!!

As you can see my kids absolutely loved their trunk full of fun. Pop on over and have a look, you’d be crazy not to!

They can be purchased on their website here
and you can ‘like’ their facebook page here.
