You know those days where by the end of it you are completely and utterly exhausted? Those days you can barely holding it together? Well this was me yesterday.

I am usually a very laid back person, it takes a lot to break me. But I can say with all honesty that I have never in my 9 years of being a parent ever had a day that shit! I was woken by fighting kids, breakfast everywhere, my kitchen resembled a holding cell for untamed animals.

I thought once I dropped the boys at school surely my day would improve. I was wrong. So unbelievably wrong! My 2 year old daughter seems to have embraced the terrible two’s with open arms. There was just no letting up. She is a very strong willed child which I’m hoping will be a benefit in her older years but for now, she is driving me to breaking point. I ask her to do something. No. Please do it. No.

I am not typically a parent who resorts to bribing my children to do things (toilet training excluded, they can have whatever they frigging want if it means they will crap in the toilet!) however yesterday I was at my wits end. I did not know what to do. I was stressed, time deprived with my husband and I cannot remember the last time I left the house to do something for myself or by myself.
I’m just tired of being tired.

As the afternoon went on it didn’t improve. Homework arguments, racing the clock for swimming lessons because their class times had changed. Rushing out the door with an extremely overtired 2 year old, 3 month old baby and the boys, only to get there and be told they changed our lesson time to the next half an hour slot which meant I had to entertain the devil child, I mean toddler, for an hour instead of 30 minutes in what can only be described as a sauna. *It is a heated indoor pool in a shed that is ONLY for lessons.

By this point I was barely holding it together. I made dinner and was counting down the hours until my husband came home. He walked inside and asked me how my day was – I couldn’t contain it any longer – “It was fucked!”. There was no other way to explain it. The tears started flooding my face and as my husband comforted me, I fell into a messy sobbing heap. He asked me what had happened to make it such an awful day and as I told him, the crying got worse. But as I talked and cried, I began to feel lighter, less stressed, less irritated (possibly less irrational).

My husband being the wonderful man he is reminded me that everyone has bad days. It is ok to not be on top of everything every single day. Not to bottle it up until breaking point and that tomorrow will be better! And like always….. He was right.

Have you experienced days like this too? How do you prevent it from happening?

Make Time to Take Time! http://allmumsaid.com.au/make-time-to-take-time/ http://allmumsaid.com.au/make-time-to-take-time/#comments Mon, 03 Sep 2012 21:00:00 +0000 http://madmummas.com/?p=129 Life can get pretty hectic sometimes and we all know that but many of us don’t really acknowledge the fact that sometimes we need to slow down and take a break.     I recently discovered that after months of solid activity, each and every day my calendar full of ‘must’ do tasks ~ you can’t do it all forever. I don’t mean for this to sound like I am naive to the fact the body needs rest but having the knowledge and using it are completely different. I am sure many men and women (I’m sure it’s mostly women though ;p) have this problem. Most of us have some or all of these ‘must do tasks’ and know that we all have lives being lived, houses to be kept, jobs to work, children to look after, school drop offs/pick ups, groceries to buy, dinner to be cooked, the list...

Most of us have some or all of these ‘must do tasks’ and know that we all have lives being lived, houses to be kept, jobs to work, children to look after, school drop offs/pick ups, groceries to buy, dinner to be cooked, the list goes on and on and on. But when do we take the time or even have the time to sit back and rest?

WE DON’T!!

We need to make the time! Clean the house tomorrow – make a cup of coffee and enjoy it sitting in the warm spring sun – take a long hot shower; I’m sure you get the idea. That is what I have learnt over the past week when everything about me seemed to be broken. I decided after admitting to myself I couldn’t keep pushing myself anymore and that the next day I was sleeping in. It was Saturday so I didn’t have to worry about school, the kids would be more than happy to eat breakfast while watching cartoons for a while. They could manage on their own for a couple of hours (thank you TV!)
I was going to take pleasure in the little things.

When I got up I felt recharged, refreshed, happy and ready to take on the worldday (in moderation). Now I know you are all thinking this is common sense and stop telling us shit we already know but sometimes I find it nice to be reminded that we aren’t alone and that yes, life does get hectic, life throws us curve balls and yes life can be very unpredictable and so I thought I may not be alone and others may need to be reminded also. It is OK!

Enjoy life, embrace life and make time for you!
It makes all the difference.

What is wrong with me? http://allmumsaid.com.au/what-is-wrong-with-me/ http://allmumsaid.com.au/what-is-wrong-with-me/#comments Fri, 31 Aug 2012 21:00:00 +0000 http://madmummas.com/?p=132   I will start today by apologising to all the fantastic and supportive readers I have here for it being so quiet around here this week. This has been for a few reasons and I have hesitated all week in writing this particular post as I am not really sure what to say or how to explain it.   To begin with the family and I have been a bit pre-occupied with the fact our house is finally being started. We purchased our block of land in December and finally the slab is about to be poured. It is pretty exciting for us. Then there was our wedding anniversary, my husbands’ birthday, my eldest sons’ school excursion, etc etc blah blah blah. The list just keeps on going and yet even though all these events are very positive and happy, over the last week I have found myself not feeling...

The list just keeps on going and yet even though all these events are very positive and happy, over the last week I have found myself not feeling myself. I just don’t feel right.

I cannot explain it much better than that unfortunately; I have been emotional for absolutely next to no reason, I am exhausted all the time and my head aches have been horrid. This is more than likely due to the fact that I am plain and simply exhausted and seriously need some sleep or the fact that I am still trying to adjust to losing yet another grandparent but I have just found that small things that wouldn’t normally bother me in the slightest are making me upset. For example: facebook followers unliking – what is up with that? It’s their loss, I know this but it still got me sad.

As I said I cannot really describe it much better than that as I do not suffer depression but here is to hoping a good nights sleep fixes my little emotionally draining problem and all goes back to normal soon.

::Sorry for the post being a bit of a downer::
