]]>Before you start your baby on formula, read this, breastfeeding benefits both you and your baby.
You are finally holding your precious little baby in your arms after a long 40 weeks of pregnancy. You just want to admire their precious little features but they are hungry. Often mothers have to overcome struggles; maybe you think you aren’t producing enough milk or perhaps your baby won’t attach to your breast properly. Breastfeeding doesn’t have to end there and here is why.
The benefits of breastfeeding extend further than just ‘breast is best’. Yes it is amazing for your baby but it is also beneficial for you, the mother. These benefits include:
We know it is best for babies to have breast milk over formula but often we don’t know exactly why. The benefits of breastfeeding your baby is a list that goes on forever but the main ones you can identify with include:
It is great that breastfeeding benefits both mum and baby but the positive results don’t end there.
Breastfeeding benefits come in many different forms but just because it is natural, does not mean it is always easy. If you are struggling and want to breastfeed, ask for help or visit Australian Breastfeeding Association online for more information. While breastfeeding is best for your baby, it is sometimes not what is best for the mother or family. This is perfectly OK as well; your baby is being fed, loved and looked after. Parents of formula fed babies should not feel inadequate or guilty by their decision.
Did you find breastfeeding easy and natural? Did you struggle? Was it simply not for you?

]]>The post Counting down the days appeared first on All Mum Said.
]]>I am counting down the days until school resumes. It feels like the longest 2 weeks ever. I have not been able to hear myself think with the constant talking, fighting and yelling. It’s like they feel they have to compete to be the loudest and thoroughly enjoy playing ‘How can push mum over the edge and send her bat shit crazy today?’. I’ll be honest; I love it when they go to school. I get to reclaim a portion of my sanity and take pleasure in a cup of coffee WHEN IT’S HOT!! Oh it really is the little things that bring me joy. Lol. It’s not all bad when they are on holidays because we do get to discover who the kids are again because they change so often but a few minutes of peace wouldn’t go astray. Counting down!

My boys teachers are constantly telling me how well they get along and that they are like best friends but I am calling bull shit on that. (Sorry teachers) Maybe they just use up all their tolerance for one another at school and their personalities clash at home when they have been around each other too much but from where I stand I only ever get a glimpse of this ‘best bud’ behaviour you speak of. It actually reminds me of me and my brother and how we used to get along like a house on fire and then suddenly we were constantly fight – SORRY MUM!! You can call karma off now, surely I’ve paid my dues. I understand completely how exhausted you felt, not only physically but mentally. I am completely and utterly mentally drained. Still counting down the days.
Tell me it’s not just me – tell me your kids fight too. Tell me you count down the days until school resumes as well.

]]>*This post is now a tad outdated as it sat in my drafts for months. I thought it had been published and no one cared for the post but it turns out I hadn’t hit publish! So here is the post about my journey breastfeeding my now 11 month old daughter*

Me and Poppet
I’m sure you all know that I have a 12 week old baby, if you don’t than you must be new around here so welcome. Anyway, what you may not know is that I am a breastfeeding mum. I am not anti-formula. I believe whatever you are comfortable doing as a mum is what is best for baby and that not everyone can breastfeed. I however can and do ~ proudly! I breastfed both my boys when they were babies however they were mix-fed from early on and shortly after were 100% formula. This was not entirely by choice but more that my supply couldn’t keep up with their very healthy appetite. B1 was approx. 8 weeks old and B2 was approx. 10 weeks old before they were no longer satisfied.

I was not discouraged when I couldn’t continue to breastfeed them, it was just not meant to be. They were being fed formula and their appetites were being fulfilled so I was content knowing that they were happy and healthy. Now as I mentioned I have a 12 week old baby girl and I am so pleased to report that I am still breastfeeding – successfully! In the first week it was touch and go as she had attachment issues and caused severe damage and bleeding to my nipples but with the help of some amazing nipple shields (*Tommee Tippee Miomee Silicone Nipple Shields*) we resolved those first initials hiccups and allowed myself time to heal while still being able to breastfeed and continue to do so. Poppet is feeding like a champion and without any further complications; I wasn’t expecting to be breastfeeding for any time in particular but used the timeline of the boys as a guide. We have however surpassed and exceeded the duration I thought I was ever destined to breastfeed for and with Hadley being so content and happy to continue; I am feeling so pleased that I am finding it hard to explain in words. I am beyond proud of myself and if I can say in all honesty I feel like I have a closer bond with her because we have accomplished this together. If I had to stop breastfeeding her tomorrow I would be able to do so knowing that we gave it everything we had and I gave her the best start to life I could. This may be my third child but I am amazed at how much you can still learn, how much more you can grow as a person and how each day you can be proud of everything you accomplish as a woman and mother.
*This post is NOT sponsored in any which way. I mentioned the nipple shields as they were an amazing help to me and recommend them to anyone who finds themselves in the same situation.

]]>Do you have a teenager or man child in your home that would love to have a scooter like the kids’? Maybe you love getting out there with the kids but haven’t found a scooter of quality or one that is large enough. Well I have got the solution for you!
Thanks to Crisp and their new Big Wheel Scooter you can now ride with the kids. What child wouldn’t want Mum or Dad to take them for scooter ride? My boys are obsessed with their bikes and scooters and now I can finally scoot next to them instead of trailing behind constantly telling them to slow them. Well I will until the baby is born anyway and then my husband will have to take over being the awesome and fun one.
I love that this scooter is Australian designed and so much thought has gone into the style and practicality of it. It has an alloy deck that is set low and wide making it easier for adults to use. Just like the kids scooters it has a height adjustable handlebar which is great when Dad and Mum take turns going for a ride with the kids! I am quite a bit shorter than my husband and this comes in handy.
The wheels are 200mm cast PU which basically means they are big enough that you can smoothly ride over bumps. There is a drink bottle holder on the front as well so when the kids get thirsty (like mine do every few minutes) you have water on hand. This scooter can be folded to easily fit into the car for those fun adventures that require a little bit of travel.
You can find the Crisp Big Wheel Scooter stocked in various bike and skate stores for $220. Find more information at www.activeoutthere.com.au

]]>It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that I am a HUGE handbag and shoe lover! I love them, they are my feel good purchases. I have recently discovered a new website (new to me, not the web) and I am going to be honest I spent a good hour going through their bags, satchels, clutches and wallets! So many gorgeous options and there is definitely something for everyone. Pop over and check out journie.com.au you won’t be disappointed and with Mother’s Day coming up you can leave your hints laying around.
The designer of these gorgeous bags has put a lot of thought into the size, shapes, appearance and fabrics giving them all their own individual appeal. Each handbag appears to have its own story to tell when you look at them, they are unique and distinct without being over the top or weird. The current range/collections have their own style that suits both day and night and are perfect for the upcoming cooler months with natural and earthy tones.
I have had my Miami Chic Hobo bag for a week now and have more complements about it than I can count on both hands. The colours of this bag are natural, refreshing and yet funky and fun. What I love about this bag is the thickness of the fabric, the storage space and pockets. There is more than enough room to fit all my useless and never used crap essential items with plenty of room to spare and individual pockets for easy finding of the items you actually use. Journie does not comprise on quality and that is a hard thing to find these days.
For your chance to win your very own Miami Chic Hobo just follow the easy instructions on the rafflecopter.

]]>Check out this awesome ad!
It’s so funny – I wonder if that’s what babies really think?
I had no idea which formula to use – do you know how many are out there? It all becomes a blur when you are standing in the baby isle of your local supermarket staring at all these tins that swear to be the best for your baby. So I did what any new Mum would do in this situation; I rang my dear Mum and asked her what she fed us when we were little. Would you believe that the one she recommended was still available to buy? Good old Nestle Nans Formula!
Did you breast, bottle or mix feed? What formula did you use?
