Every parent knows the struggles that come along with feeding babies and toddlers. We have so many questions and most them are answered  on the job, we learn as we go through trial and error. While advice is often welcomed, sometimes it’s not always right for us and our situation. When B1 was a baby he was only breastfed for 12 weeks. This was not because I was lazy or didn’t want to breastfeed him, I wanted to but unfortunately he was such a guzzler that my supply couldn’t keep up with his needs. This answered the ‘when do I start introducing solids to baby‘ question very quickly.

I started with rice cereal and alternated it with crushed up soggy wheatbix, which quickly led to messier meals as you can see above. A lot of people didn’t agree with feeding him solid food so young but he wanted food and it kept him satisfied. He was happy, healthy and to this day is not a fussy eater. He will try anything and everything which makes the life of a parent so much easier at meal times. Each child is different and anyone who has more than one kid can vouch for that. While B1 craved food from an early age, B2 didn’t start solids quite as young. They tend to let you know when they are ready to do something new. Both my boys while they were breastfed needed that formula ‘dream feed’ to get them through the night and in my personal experience I found having that  bottle of formula helped to establish their sleeping routine from a young age. I know that what has worked for us though has not been helpful for our friends in regards to regulating sleep patterns for toddlers. Why? Because each child is different.

Ensuring you and your child get enough sleep is very important and having a lack of this can result in stressed parents. We all need help sometimes and if you don’t feel comfortable asking family or friends it’s good to know that there are other avenues you go use that provide support.
