]]>When it comes to keeping your kids’ rooms clean and organised, it can often feel like an uphill battle. There are, however, a few tips and tricks you can use to make it less of a generational warfare situation. Intrigued? Read on, because below you’ll find just five of the ways you can improve matters. A Place For Everything…
It’s true that it takes less time to tidy up if you know where to put everything, so be sure to have clear guidelines about where everything goes. If you can get your child to help you with this process, then so much the better. The more involved they can be with how a sense of organisation and cleanliness is created within their space, the better. The less you have to think about when you’re tidying up, the easier the whole process becomes. It’s that simple.
Timing…
Most parents encourage kids to tidy up before bed and this does make a certain amount of sense. However, this is also the time of day when your kids are the most tired and often the most difficult. It might be an idea to ask them to tidy up while you make dinner, so they can spend 15 minutes putting away toys, then eat, and relax before bed.
Labels
Once you have defined where everything goes in your kids’ rooms, make up some labels that reflect this. Use pictures if your kids are too little for written labels. This will also make it easier – and quicker – for the kids to put their toys and clothes away themselves.
Rubbish
Make sure there is a rubbish bin for papers, discarded containers and pencils, etc. in each child’s room. If there is nowhere sensible to put these things, kids tend to just throw them on the floor – and this can become a habit. Encourage your children to put empty packaging and broken toys in their rubbish bin – and, if they’re old enough, to empty it weekly, or whatever your usual bin routine may be.
Work With Your Child
Not all kids are the same – if you have more than one, you’ll already know this. Some kids like to be neat and tidy; they like organising and arranging their ‘stuff’, and are naturally neat. Some children dump things on the floor and can’t be bothered putting their toys in a cupboard. Find a system that works for each child. The litter bugs may do well with big-boxed storage units that let them just throw everything in and pull it out when they want. Neat and organised kids might prefer very detailed storage systems. Working with your child’s natural tendencies whenever possible is a lot easier than trying to change them.
Keeping kids’ rooms clean and organised doesn’t have to be a hassle. If you set up a few systems and make sure your children know what’s expected of them, parent-child clashes can be kept to a minimum – on this front anyway.

]]>I will be the first to admit that I NEED a calendar, if I didn’t have one I would forget so many things. I also take great pleasure in finding the perfect one. It can be frustrating when you search and search and come up empty handed but when you think about the fact you have to look at it for next 12 months, you want to love it. I have always looked in places like newsagents and department stores on my annual calendar hunt and for some reason had never even thought of looking online, which for me is strange as I buy almost everything online. This year however I have been introduced to Calendar Club which is where my 2015 calendars are from and so will my 2016 editions. I have found my new go-to calendar shop.
Calendar Club have over 4000 calendars to choose from in a wide range of topics and interests. They cover films, cartoons and TV shows, celebrities, music, sports right through to hobbies, cute animals, food, art, humour and so much more. There is something for every age and every interest. I found the task of narrowing it down to just 5 calendars an enormously tough decision as there were so many eye-catching and interesting ones to choose from. Yes 5 may seem like a lot but we have – 1. family/events/birthdays. 2. My work deadlines/blog, 3. Finances/bills/payments and 4 & 5 are for B1 and B2 because they like to feel grown-up. Either you have no room for both, or your wardrobe is simply getting too muddled and you want to be able to reach a singlet without accidentally pulling out a sweater. Never fear as there are ways to overcome this dilemma that you might not have considered and you don’t have to go above and beyond to achieve them. The answer could be right under your nose. So without further ado, here are some handy storage ideas for your wardrobe space this summer.

Designated Storage Space
Depending on how much of a shopping junkie you are, the space in your immediate surroundings might not be enough to store all your clothes. If this is the case, you might have to designate another room for storage. For instance, the spare room or perhaps the attic or basement. If neither of these are an option, box all your unwanted clothes and transfer them to a storage facility. Extra Hooks and Hangers
Use the wall space in your room as an extension of your wardrobe by inserting hooks on which to hang clothes. Placing one large basket at the end of your bed will get rid of a lot of unwanted wardrobe clutter in one go. Baskets and containers are ideal for your casual footwear and foldable clothing, which only really excludes winter jackets and maybe headwear. Keeping them within reaching distance (such as under your bed) is a suitable for smaller pieces such as socks and underwear.
The trick to storing clothes is to be versatile and, moreover, creative. While jackets aren’t able to be folded, they can be hung up, and while shoes are difficult to hang, they can be neatly tucked away. Whether you pick all three options or settle on one, you’re minimising clutter and in turn expanding your summer wardrobe space.

]]>It really does not matter how large or small your pantry; to make the most of the space you have, your pantry needs to be effectively organised. You need to be quite ruthless in determining what stays and what goes, and take advantage of storage solutions outside of your home (such as storage at a Fort Knox Storage facility), for items that are used infrequently or really do not belong in your pantry. Here are some great tips how saving space can be quick, easy and budget friendly.
Getting started…
Pull everything out of your pantry
To get really organised, you need to remove the entire contents of the pantry and commit to disposing of everything with an expired use by date. Items that are not out-of-date, but are open and look to be past their best, should go too.
Clean while the pantry is empty
With a completely empty pantry, you have the perfect opportunity to give the space a thorough clean. If drawers are a feature of your pantry, start by vacuuming them out, and then give all surfaces a complete wipe down.
Logically sort and group pantry items
With items still outside of your pantry, sort them into logical groupings, such as flour and baking items, tinned food, pastas, sauces and cereals. Before you return these items to the pantry, think carefully about how they can be best positioned and arranged.
Keep heavy appliances on trays
A great tip that has been practiced for decades, is to sit heavy appliances like food processors and blenders on trays. Doing so makes it easy to slide the appliance from the back of the shelf to the front where it can be more easily lifted out.
Saving space with tins and bottles
In most pantries, tins and bottles can be difficult to store, because of their bulky size and shape. It is now possible to purchase expanding racks for the pantry which are attached under the shelf. You will be adding extra storage and creating a space where all tins are visible and neatly organised.
Use containers for your dry goods
Stop the chaos and loss of space that results from opened boxes and packets falling over in your pantry. It’s far better to empty your dry goods into containers and containers that are clear glass or plastic are preferable, as they make it easier to find particular products.
To optimise space, use square or rectangular containers, rather than round ones which do not fit beside each other quite so well. Use labels for the easy identification of products and ensure that all containers have airtight lids.
Make the most of baskets
Baskets are an invaluable resource in a pantry as they provide a place for all manner of items, from cake sprinkles and food colouring, to garbage bags and aluminium foil. Save space and stay organised with baskets that are clearly labelled and logically arranged.
Generally speaking, space is at a premium in most people’s pantries. It really doesn’t matter how large or small your pantry is, it can be well-organised so that space is maximised and all items can be easily located and used. What are your tips to saving space in the pantry?

When did being organised become so gorgeous? When Martha Stewart stepped in is when. Have come to the conclusion that they have thought of a product for almost everything you could need in your home.
