The Best Haircuts for Females with Thinning Hair

14/12/2014 By All Mum Said 1 Comment

If your hair is thinning, a good haircut will be important to you. Although you may notice the thinning of your hair and be worried about exacerbating the issue, it’s still possible to get a great haircut and colour, and style your hair using heat. In doing anything at all to your hair, it is important that you are strategic and careful about chemical styling and processing.

What do we know about hair?

As hair care experts know, the hair that protrudes from the head is dead. The part of the hair that is alive is beneath the scalp in the hair follicle. We colour and style the hair shaft, which is composed of keratin, and the outer layer of the hair shaft (the cuticle) is strong, resilient and smooth when your hair is healthy.

For more information about this, refer to a credible website such as www.transitionshair.com.au that is backed by knowledgeable hair loss professionals. It’s worth understanding that when hair is blow-dried in a particular way and selected styling products are used, the layers of the cuticle are not smooth, but fluffed up, and you hair appears fuller. This is important to females with thinning hair and it is heartening for them to know that concealing bald spots, thinning hair and receding hairlines is entirely possible.

The best haircuts for thinning hair

1. A short, classic bob

Hair which is thinning all over or has skimpy parts at the back of the head or crown can be disguised by a blunt-cut, chin-length bob. If your hairline is thin, a fringe which is swept to the side can hide this. An added benefit of this haircut is that it requires little maintenance, is versatile and can be blow-dried and styled to appear more full. The short, classic bob is/was favoured by women such as: Anna Wintour and Jackie O.

2. The short, choppy bob

To create a fuller look, layers of irregular lengths can be added to a classic bob; this gives a shaggy and quite tousled look and delivers the effect of more hair and texture. This style is great for women whose hair is thinning at the crown or the back of the head. Helen Mirren and Meg Ryan are renowned for sporting the short, choppy bob.

3. Mid-length cut that brushes the shoulders

Women with thin hair are best advised to avoid very long hair, and a mid-length cut that grazes the shoulders is about as long as it is recommended that a woman with thinning hair goes. However, a mid-length cut creates the impression of longer hair and looks great when angled, long layers are cut around the face. It’s important that weight is removed from the ends so that the hair has some movement. This cut is synonymous with stylish women including Susan Sarandon and Suzanne Somers.

4. A short, layered crop with a fringe

This cut looks edgy but also sophisticated and quite sexy. If your hair is thinning at the hairline, this cut may suit you well – especially if you have a strong, defined jaw-line and a good neck. Shirley MacLaine, Annette Bening and Judy Dench wear the short, layered crop with a fringe very well.

If your hair is thinning, make sure you get a great haircut that can help to disguise your thinning hair. When you have a great cut, use a great blow-drying technique and styling products of the right texture to build the fullness of your hair.

My hair is thinning so this is very helpful advice on what hair style I’m thinking of achieving. Added volume seems to be thinning hairs best friend.
