GIVEAWAY CLOSED!
Winter has hit early this year and the kids are already trying to find an alternative to their usual cereal and cold milk for breakfast. I grew up having porridge / oats on cold mornings and have continued this throughout my life so far; it was only to be expected that I too would do this for my kids. Nothing warms you up faster than a bowl of hot Uncle Tobys oats with milk and sugar/honey; a quick and healthy breakfast that satisfies morning hunger and gives you the energy needed to start the day.
Uncle Tobys have introduced the new My Little Oats campaign to assist parents in sharing their innovative tricks and ideas that encourage kids to enjoy one of the most nourishing breakfasts we have on offer, oats. For more information on My Little Oats or to see suggestions made by other parents go to www.mylittleoats.com.au or click the My Little Oats tab on their facebook page.

GOOD LUCK!!
Big Mr 9 wakes up with the grumps and slumps on his chair.
Medium Miss 5, being half asleep, just falls back to sleep in her chair.
And small Miss 2 is full of chatters, but refuses to eat.
Feeling like Goldilocks invading someone elses house, I begin the morning with an over exuberant ramble of “The sun is shining, the birds are singing, you’ve got to get up in the morning”. Doing a little jig, it seems I only get appreciation from the girls.
Feeding Miss 2 then consists of ballet moves around her highchair, zooming food down to her as I flutter like a fairy. At this point, the video camera would come in handy. It’s got to be seen to be believed!
Miss 2 refuses to eat unless I’m wearing my fairy wings and a tiara. Caught out the other morning with an early knock at the door – I forgot to remove my fairy accessories. All I could do was laugh – the poor delivery man!
I can only imagine what my son would be saying at school. I bet there’s some sniggers in the staffroom!
I get them into the kitchen to help!! Kids love to help and they decide what they want for breakfast the night before. More than not they eat there brekki too as they have made it. We sometimes do an I spy in the mornig to keep things moving!!!
Oh yum, my kids LOVE uncle Tobies porridge !
I love making shaped toasts using cookies cutters and using fruits, vegetables and jams for plate decorations. Berry jams for flower petals. Blueberry for sea/water. Milk is served in his cute favourite Peter Rabbit mug.
I entertain the kids by using the art of pretend play
I manage to get their attention by saying we’re in a fancy cafe
So then Miss 8 takes the orders (it practices her writing skills)
Miss 5 pours the milk or juice, hoping for no spills
Miss 3 waits at the table, usually still in her pj’s
I bustle around making brekkie, hoping for no delays
They all love Uncle Toby’s Oats, and this mummy does too
We mightn’t be in a posh Paris cafe, but if there’s oats, our kitchen will certainly do!!!!!!!!!
I don’t have to entertain my oldest, since she eats on her own. With my younger, I have to play some music on my phone to distract her from the food while I feed her. 😉
C’mon it’s time for breakfast,
Hey, let’s have some fun,
Decorate your Uncle Toby’s Oats,
With yummy fruit, it’s yum,
Grab that banana, and the blueberries too,
Make a happy smiling face,
Then eat it up like I do!
I dont have to entertain my kids, they are 6 & 7 so they entertain themselves for the most part, but over breakfast I test them on their sight words while I pack their lunch boxes and although they love their porridge already, they eagerly fill their mouths full so they cant answer me and have more time to think of the spelling
When they were younger however, there was alot of toys on the table, spoon aeroplanes, dress ups, food faces, guessing games and jumping around the room begging!
On the weekends we have a big raffle jar that one of them gets to pick out of each day to decide what we have for breakfast, could be pancakes, bacon and egg muffins, cereal, toast, croissants…so many different options! They then get to help make whatever they have picked, is so much fun and turns out to be good family time too, rather than just sitting there watching cartoons!
I keep my older girls amused at breakfast time by getting them to cook the breakfast. The whole family has oats, so they make mine and the baby’s oats and we all eat together (I help with the getting out of the microwave). I hope they continue to enjoy our restaurant game for a little while yet. I know I enjoy the help in the kitchen.
To make breakfast fun, we have music playing. I love singing while making the breakfast meals and getting the lunchboxes ready. It is a brilliant distraction for the kids – they have fun laughing at me and eating, instead of fighting with each other!
Honestly at breakfast, there seems so little time,
For entertaining children, while they drink and dine,
I need to get them off to school, now they’re 5 and 9,
If they are tardy, their schoolwork might decline,
So eat your oats up quickly, children of mine,
At least when it’s dinnertime, Mummy can have wine!
In the summer time my kids eat their breakfasts outside on our patio table, it really gets them excited to be outdoors, they are happy to try different things so I am happy to say they are easily pleased.
Breakfast in our place is no chore,
They bound in to see me while I still snore.
‘Can we have breakfast now?’ They often tweet in unison,
All this before I even have any breakfast vision!
They love their cereal and their oats,
Not that I wish to gloat but breakfast at our place is a breeze,
Just add milk and don’t forget to give mum a loving squeeze!
Sitting at the breakfast table eating with knife and fork,
Turned around and Daddy was doing the “Moon Walk”.
“Check this out girls, what do you think?”
Daddy laughed and danced around the kitchen sink.
This was one of many meals, we laughed and shared together,
at breakfast time we love to bond, it’s memories forever.
There was the time when I started laughing and spit my milk all over them, they were pretty entertained that day!!!
Breakfast time is fortunately one of the easier meal times to get through. Having not had food all night – she is usually pretty hungry when she wakes and mostly is happy to sit at the dining table, watching ABC kids and sampling whatever’s on offer
Occasionally though, I need to tempt her by saying if she finishes her meal quickly we will go out shopping! That usually does the trick!!! Especially when I say the shops are gonna close soon if you don’t hurry!!!
I’ve had it relatively easy up until now. My 15 year old just doesn’t seem to have the time or the inclination to eat breakfast.
Breakfast has become a breeze with our little miss,
Ever since she discovered Uncle Toby’s Oats that is.
She now gobbles up her breakie in record time,
She’s copying Mum you see, she still sometimes tries to eat mine!
I’ve been eating yummy oats to help with breastfeeding her baby brother,
Little miss tried them one day as we played ‘baby and mother’.
It wasn’t always so easy, instead breakie used to be a nightmare,
Mum making up silly songs at the breakfast table to try to keep her there.
I did it all – songs, smiley faces, different foods, even reward stickers,
Wish I’d tried Uncle Toby’s first to save us all the bickers!
The best way is to dress-up as their fave cartoon character. Then when you’re sitting at the table, starting talking like that character. It’s so much fun. Great way to start the morning
We play the games on the back of the cereals boxes and if there aren’t any on the cereal box we have a ton of activity books that we use!
We have rhymes playing at breakfast time which allows them to enjoy rhymes while enjoying breakfast. We have a ‘morning play list’ with certain rhymes that are for eating breakfast and when those are over they know it is time to brush their teeth.

I make silly jokes (the same ones over and over) until they can’t help but laugh and throw off the early morning crankies!
Simple, healthy and fun. Fruit on skewers and a big cold Milo. My son is simple and loves his fruit. No tv till breakfast is done makes an easier way for breakfast to be devoured.
Missy Jadie, has 3 1/2 weetbix everyday , we mix it up with different fruit banana is her favourite . Its funny how when you try and change it up a bit theres alot of protest, but at the end of the day breakfast is very important and often neglected I have tried very hard to instill in my kids how important it is, just like a car runs on petrol think of it as fuel for your body , to get you going and give you energy for the day ahead : thankyou for such a wonderful giveaway , goodluck everyone.
With these new sachets its easy and fun. The first one up to the table gets to pick the flavour they want. Oh course I already have placed the ones they liked there before hand.
By calling in the big guns – Daddy
Mostly we have a cooked brekkie and the kids help, pancakes are the most entertaining as we’ve come up with some yummy and not so yummy toppings.
I entertain my wild boys running around frantically, chucking a tanty because the lunchboxes are still in the school bag from yesterday and looking for school shoes & hats they tossed ‘God knows where’ while my porridge is burning on stove and I can’t find where I left my cup of tea…
“MUM , MUM, MUM your porridge is smokin’ !”
Mum – get the broom the smoke alarm will go off.
I’d love quick oats but it would be less entertaining for everyone.
I put on The Wiggles; the song Hot Potato in specific works a treat!
“Mashed Banana, Mashed Banana…..
Whooo, jiggy jiggy jiggy jiggy…….
gimme that, gimme that, gimme that, food”
We all sit together at the table, singing songs swaying and laughing along to our family music
My children are fairly young so we play spelling games. We try to spell different foods we are eating whether it be cereal, toast, whatever. The winner usually gets the cereal toy or doesn’t have to put up the dishes
Luckily I’m at work before they get out of bed so my Hubby has the breakfast run.
We usually have to eat as fast as possible, especially school days, my girls like to draggggggg it out, on weekends sometimes they will watch tv while eating….
Breakfast time round here can be a drama
When Mummy can do her Na-Na
So to make happiness prevail
ABC Kids 2 on the telly does entail
Happiness and smiles all around
Brekkie Laughter is a Joyous sound
We homeschool our younger two boys
so we are teaching our younger son to read
only cause he asked us what words mean
Now I am making French Toast every morning
with Tomato Sauce.
Each time I cook it up I think of a new word
from Happy to Sad to Monday to Tuesday
to Wednesday to Thursday to Friday to Saturday
to Easy to Free to Eat Me to Look to Kyle to Get Up
These are some of the words we are using and more
Now he is seven, about to turn eight
He will be learning to read while eating good food
all because he wanted to instead of having to.
i normally pretend too spill my breakfast or i make a game whoever can eat there breakfast before we are really late for school gets $1
When my little girl is having her breakfast, I taught her some words as I pointed out something around the dining area. This was what I had entertained her when she was a baby. Now, she has her breakfast, she will point out the thing and tell me what is that. She learns thing very quick.
We have music playing to get the morning flowing
breakfast and a little dance get their smiles glowing.
Dora, who’s two, love ‘helping’ make pancakes with her dad. She pours, measures and mixes but mostly taste tests. Then she’ll go and grab her play fry pan and says ‘Hoopla!!’ and pretends the pancake has gotten stuck to the ceiling! She thinks this is hilarious. It’s lovely time spent together as a family.
I don’t have to entertain my kids they are all old enough in their teens to make their own brekky , they hear “its not a restaurant” a lot . They do entertain me though , I’m pretty demanding & need two coffee’s to function .
I Don’t! lol I use that time to eat my own breakfast in peace and check emails etc because I leave the entertaining responsibilities to my teenager and tween. They are fabulous at keeping my toddler happy for me but they have so much fun with him that I think the mess is triple then what it should be. I don’t mind however because I have 20 minutes of peace before they head off to school and I’m all alone in the entertaining arena.
Well if Mum dancing around the kitchen to songs on the radio isn’t embarrassing enough, I can always try the “Hear comes the Choo Choo train” with the spoon trick on my 6yo who is the slowest eater on earth. Choruses of “Oh Mum, NO!!” also follow as I ask my son if he wants butter on his school sandwich (he hates butter on anything other than corn on the cob). My Peppa Pig impersonation is hilarious to my 2yo and I, but the others just shake their heads….although I occasionally see a little smirk. I probably won’t get a gig at the Comedy Festival, but my daily breakfast routine does get a few laughs in our house:)
Ive given my son the job of setting the table at breakfast time, He loes being able to help & it keeps him busy while I get everything organised. He also helps me put all the spreads on the table if we are having toast.
We make our uncle tobys oats the old fashion way! They way my nanny taught my mum and the way that my mummy and nanny taught me!
Mr almost 4 yo loves to help!
We do it just before bed the night before and he bounces off to bed with excitement knowing that his breakie is sitting on the stove ready to be cooked in the morning!
1 cup of oats, 2 cups of water, 5 prunes (to help keep him regular and to give them a bit of sweetness). We let it sit over over night and cook it the next morning. He loves to stir it and watch it cook, supervised of course! Then into bowls with a dash of milk! Guaranteed to be eaten!
Aidan likes pancakes, oatmeal or eggs in the morning. Once in a while we do smoothies with oatmeal in them!
Right now I am working on baking my very first child… due out of the oven sometime in the next 4-5 weeks, and hopefully not before! (I just have sooo much to do before then!)
But, to entertain the little wriggler at breakfast time I just make sure I pop something tasty in my mouth to keep the little wriggles coming! My/baby’s favourite breakfast is actually Bircher Museli, made overnight (in the fridge) with the main ingredient being ROLLED OATS! And of course other yummy stuff like grated granny smith, chopped almonds, sultanas, blueberries, cinnamon, sesame seeds and some almond meal! Nom! It certainly gets a good reaction every time I make it, and whether baby is entertained or not, I’m loving all the wriggles of appreciation when I eat it!
No time for entertainment, just eat and go!
I inspire to living a healthier, greener life. I believe that our collective small steps really add-up into making a positive difference to the world we live in, and the legacy we are about to give to our children.
Ooops! this comment wasn’t meant for your site, sorry! Pressed the wrong key (copy paste!)
What a wonderful giveaway! Not only a tasty and delicious breakfast but one that is packed full of nutritional value for all of us!
My 8 month old daughter loves brekky time! I prepare our food together and we sit on the rug in the loungeroom and have a little play date before I have to head off to work for the day. It’s the best mummy and daughter time!
I dont need to entertain my 4 boys at breakfast time, they entertain themselves, seeing what kind of mischief they can get up to and how much mess they can make!
We have just bought our little man his own table and chair. That in itself is amusement enough: “new chair! new table!”. In fact, on the first day he had it he had to eat breakfast twice!
The sun rises slowly,
And the day starts a new.
No rest for the wicked,
There’s a job I must do.
It’s time for their breakfast.
My girls of toddler age.
And to get them to eat it…
I must set the stage.
At first I’m a Juggler.
Prepping bottles, milk and toast.
Flying round the kitchen,
I’m the Perfect Brekky Host.
Next I’m Ring Master.
I lure the crowd right in.
Entice the girls to the table,
I’ve got them giggling!
Now we are Knife Throwers.
But the knives are bits of bread!
Through the ducking and the diving,
I’m still “cobbed” in the head!
So to get them to Breakfast,
And to get them to eat!
You must entertain…
Though its not a small feat!
Become the Ringmaster,
Replace sleepy frowns!
And if all starts to fail…
WELL WE ALL LOVE A CLOWN!
I entertain them with the flurry of Mummy in the morning
Making breakfasts, lunches and snacks, drinking coffee, making bottles, checking bags and packing bags. Repeatedly asking those at the table to sit properly, take bites, eat up, sit down, brush your teeth, shoes are on the wrong feet, your shirt is buttoned wrong, where is your other shoe. Dressing boys, dressing baby, finding clothes, putting more washing on and IF i’m lucky i get a coffee and a shower.
Love oats
yum
Thank goodness for ABC4 Kids because that is how I entertain my toddler while I get her breakfast ready and breastfeed my 12 week old baby as well as get breakfast ready for myself. It can be chaos but Sesame Street and Fireman Sam are my saviours in the morning rush!
great giveaway thanks xoxox
I rarely entertain, jest or joke, or else my routine will go up in smoke. He gets ready for school no dilly or dally then comes to the table to fill up his belly. We have a nice chat bout this and bout that & when it’s time to walk to school that is when I can be a fool, happiness and light playing tag on the way. He smiles and laughs at fat old mum trying her best to tag her son. We arrive at school & I wish him a great day, I can’t wait for after school when we can play, his laughter is sweet a giggle unique all started from a hearty breakfast of warm porridge made with love perfect for winter mornings.
