MAM Anti-Colic Baby Bottles

28/06/2013 By All Mum Said Leave a Comment

Approximately 20% of babies will become colicky which is quite unfortunate for both baby and parents. I have been fortunate enough so far that I haven’t had to experience this personally however I have witnessed the torment, pain and sleepless nights it has caused friends of mine.  Which is why when I come across a great product that is going to help mothers stress less and help their baby be pain free I want to share it with everyone.

I have been giving the MAM Anti-Colic bottles a bit of a test run for the purpose of this review and even though I have been filling it with breast milk my baby took to the bottle like she was attached to my boob. It was like she didn’t know any better which is definitely saying something for the quality of these teats. They are extra soft just like a nipple making it easy to transition between breast and bottle. Now as I mentioned above my baby isn’t colicky but the way these bottles are designed I can definitely see how it would benefit if she was. The base is vented which ultimately reduces the air that is swallowed by bub.

I have found the benefits of these bottles great and will continue to use them once I stop breastfeeding. They have a nice wide opening at the top making them easy to clean, BPA free and they also self-sterilise! Yes you read that right – self-sterilising! If your baby suffers from colic than I would highly recommend giving these bottles a go just like one of Mad Mummas readers did. You can read her review below.

MAM Anti-Colic bottles can be found in Target, Big W & some Baby Bunting stores. You can also follow MAM Australia on facebook.

Reader Review

I wish I had known about these bottles with my first daughter who suffered from chronic reflux and colic so feeding was not a favourite time of the day!
I have used these bottles with my second child now 10 weeks old and they are amazing! The fact that they self-sterilize in 3 mins is a bonus and extremely handy when out and about! The teat was easy for my daughter to suck and I believe it did reduce her wind, which is also noticeable when my daughter feeds compared to other brands we have used. I am extremely happy with these bottles and would recommend them.

Spectacular Toys Direct to Your Door!

26/06/2013 By All Mum Said Leave a Comment

Last week my kids got online and ordered a stash of toys from Big W online (which you I’m sure you all will already know because you read the post about it). We don’t live that far from Big W but for the sake of reviewing the online experience we placed our order and to be honest who doesn’t love receiving parcels in the mail?

The kids were thrilled when they arrived a few days later. The website was extremely easy to use, the order process was simple and the delivery was beyond fast! I couldn’t be more impressed.

The kids have been enjoying their new carefully selected toys and being the toy experts they are they know great quality toys when they see them. They are very happy with each and every toy they received and the variety that was available for them to select from. They chose many toys they have been wanting for a long time; a few examples are  Micro Chargers, Air Hogs, matchbox cars, dolls, plush toys, pillow pets and they were definitely not disappointed. These are now the toys of choice to be played with.

Don’t forget that the in store Big W Toy Sale starts on the 27th June and runs until the 10th July.  You will find all these great toys and so much more available. For those who may have missed the initial post about the Big W Toy Sale I am running a fantastic giveaway for Mad Mummas readers. I have 5 $100 Big W Gift Cards up for grabs – you can enter HERE!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of Big W.

Obesity & LBL

26/06/2013 By All Mum Said Leave a Comment

Did you know that overweight women are twice more likely to experience light bladder leakage than women of normal weight? I am among 38% of women who had no idea. It does make sense though that obesity is one of the common causes due to the extra pressure placed on the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor cannot cope with the additional weight and therefore cannot control the urine leakage.

LightsTM by TENA have launched an educational campaign to help women understand the causes and simple lifestyle and diet changes that will help empower and improve their pelvic floor to regain control.

Here are some tips for women who may be overweight and experiencing LBL that will help combat this problem.

 Find your Pelvic Floor

The Pelvic Floor runs from your pubic bone at the front of your pelvis to the coccyx at the back. Imagine this sling of muscles is like two elevator doors. As you lift it, imagine the doors closing together and then lifting towards your head. The rest of your body should stay still.

Practice gentle lifts throughout the day
Practice lifting during the day at your desk, or at the sink while washing your hands, not just lying down at the end of the day. Work on connecting with it and then seeing if you can hold it for 5 seconds. As it is an internal exercise, no one will know you are working out.  Try and lift your pelvic floor 10 times at a red light whilst driving.

Calculating BMI
Calculate your BMI as follows: weight (kg) divided by height (m) squared
Healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 25. Monitor this regularly and work on getting into the healthy BMI range.

Change your diet
Implementing a healthier and more balanced diet along with exercise will help to shed some kilos and losing weight, particularly around your waist will help to lighten the load placed on your pelvic floor. Eating a balanced diet will help to decrease the incidence of constipation which can weaken your pelvic floor.

Use the right product while dealing with the problem
Use a correct liner such as the one from the newly launched lights by TENA® range to handle the leakages while you’re dealing with the problem. The liners will keep you drier, fresher and odour free. And much less stressed.

If you would like more tips or demonstrations on how to strengthen your pelvic floor you can find lots more information on the website here.

I Went Orange!

25/06/2013 By All Mum Said 2 Comments

For the past 10 days my kids and I have taken part in a 10 day challenge ~ Live Well Go Orange. It wasn’t a hard task to do all – eat 10 oranges over 10 days. I love the taste of oranges so I didn’t have to convince myself much it was worth doing; the amount of health benefits and delicious taste did that all on their own.

Everyone knows oranges are a great source of Vitamin C but they are also full of valuable antioxidants. They are great for heart health and if that wasn’t enough they keep the aging process in check! Why wouldn’t you want to go orange?

There are many health benefits to be gained by eating oranges – for my family and I it is important that we boost our immune system and the antioxidants in oranges assist us to do so. Oranges are low GI and fibre which means they will help keep you satisfied for longer and ward off hunger pangs.

After taking the 10 day challenge I must say that I don’t look or feel any different on the outside but I know the benefits that my body has gained by having an orange a day and it is well worth it (especially with how cheap they are in the shops now!)

Do you like oranges? Will you take the 10 day challenge?

For the past 2 weeks I have been using some wonderful baby products courtesy of Conscious Cosmetics. On their website you can find safer alternatives for men, women, children, babies, face & body, hair, sensitive skin and so much more. They stock a large range of brands that are safe, healthy and all at reasonable prices. I have been using Wotnot & Gaia products on my newborn and have no hesitation in recommending either brand.

Wotnot Bio Wipes

These Australian made wipes come in a pack of 80 wipes and are 100% natural, biodegradable and compostable. The extra large wipes (19cm x 21cm) are super soft making them perfect for babies skin. RRP $7.50

 Wotnot Baby Balm 100ml

This balm is great for use at nappy changes to help nourish and soothe skin but it is also fantastic for the whole family on cuts, scrapes and insect bites. I love that it only contains natural and organic ingredients in a convenient squeeze tube for the low cost of $15.25.

Gaia Natural Baby – Baby Shampoo 250ml

This pure, natural and organic shampoo is gentle on babies’ skin and won’t sting their eyes. A little of this goes a long way so it will last for a long time which is always an added bonus to a great product. This baby shampoo is pH neutral and gently cleanses hair and scalp without stripping the natural protective oils. RRP $10.95

Gaia Natural Baby – Sleeptime Bath 250ml

This bath wash has a pleasant relaxing scent without using artificial fragrances, soaps and paraben preservatives making it a more suitable option for those with sensitive or eczema prone skin.
