Water safety for kids & SwimFin review

28/10/2014 By All Mum Said 13 Comments

The swimming season is officially upon us which means now is the time to educate and refresh your child’s memory about water safety. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental deaths in children under 5 here in Australia, which is why it vital that not only children are educated on water safety but also parents and carers. In an effort to get the message out there SwinFin, Olympic swimming champion Libby Trickett and The Wiggles have teamed up to promote water safety for kids and teach children from an early age how to be safe around water.

The Wiggles and SwimFin Australia have produced a series of fun, memorable videos aimed at children and their parents. These videos include 5 key safety messages and a catchy tune ‘Swim like a fish’ that drives home the importance of water safety for kids.
Libbys’ top tips are:
1. Use a swimming aid, like SwimFin.
2. Don’t go into the water alone, always have an adult with you.
3. Put on lots of sunscreen.
4. Drink lots of water.
5. Learn to swim like a fish.

SwimFin review

B1 and B2 are not strong swimmers but they are improving each day with lessons and consistancy. They have been using the SwimFin every time they go swimming and it not only gives them that extra floatation needed but they also love that they look like a shark. What kid wouldn’t love that?! It is so easy to put on and take off that it only takes a few seconds to do it. As a parent, I love the SwimFin because it can be used for children as young as 2 years and is a self adjusting swimming aid which makes it great for all sizes and abilities. The SwimFin allows kids to be safe and confident as they learn to swim.

The kids are not restricted in their movements, they have their arms and legs free to learn and play. I noticed as the boys got more confident in swimming and their swimming posture improved, the SwimFin gets higher to the surface which provides them less support however the second they start to rest or lift their head the SwimFin submerges and again gives that extra support they need.

I highly recommend the SwimFin as a swimming aid for children everywhere but please remember that having an aid doesn’t eliminate the need for parental supervision. It is available in 7 different colours and can be purchased from SwimFin for $39.95.

What tips would you add to the list?

Disclosure: I received 1x SwimFin for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.
