Oricom Secure 850 Baby Monitor + GIVEAWAY

05/02/2015 By All Mum Said 48 Comments

When my boys were babies we didn’t need a baby monitor. To be honest we never actually saw the point of having one. Looking back I now know that it was because we lived in a small home so you could hear if they were crying or awake. When I was pregnant with Poppet we moved into our brand new home which is substantially larger with a completely different layout than our previous. It didn’t occur to us that because of the layout change and space between our room and the nursery that we couldn’t actually hear her. This of course prompted us to purchase a baby monitor. We read review after review and chose the Oricom Secure 710. It was fantastic!

I have 100% faith in Oricom as far as their baby monitors are concerned. This is why when I was offered the opportunity to review the new Oricom Secure 850 I couldn’t say yes fast enough. For the record, it is amazing! This high quality digital baby monitor features a motorised pan-tilt camera which is controlled through the parent unit. The tilt camera is capable of a 300 degree horizontal and 110 degree vertical movement which allows you better visibility of the nursery.

The 4.3″ display monitor produces a clear image both day and night thanks to the high quality and infrared camera. The Oricom Secure 850 offers so many wonderful features including: 5 soothing lullabies, a soft and comforting night light, room temperature display, digital zoom on the parent unit and much more. This monitor is capable of using up to 4 cameras (additional cameras are sold separately) and boasts up to an 8 hour battery life.

My favourite features of the Oricom Secure 850 are the parent talk back which allows you to calm your little one when they are beginning to stir without having to go into the room. You know as well as I do that once you make eye contact, THEY ARE UP! The motorised movement of the camera is beyond impressive. It is silent when moving so there is no risk of it waking up your baby should you need or want to have a look around. I did find a spot in the house (a 15cm section of my desk in my office) where there was some interference but it was minimal, especially when you consider how many electronic devices are in close proximity.

Even though I would not expect you to need it the Oricom Secure 850 comes with a 3 year warranty. The camera is very easy to install. You can sit it flat on a shelf or hang it on the wall and thanks to the tilt capabilities it still provides amazing visibility.

Prize Includes: 1x Oricom Secure 850 Digital Video Baby Monitor. RRP $249.95.

I think the best feature is the talk back option. I think this is great because i would take the monitor outside to do gardening or hang up the washing and if my baby woke. I could let them know I could hear them and am coming and i could perhaps quickly finish hanging up the washing or wash my hands. A monitor like this not only with the talk feature but the camera would give me some independence from my baby so i could get some things done. Can you tell my baby is a cat napper!

Where do I start, lol. I am just amazed at the sheer range of capabilities and features that the Oricom Secure 850 has. Gone are the days of that little beige box where you tried to listen through the static for any signs of crying. Digital camera with fully motorised movement that lets you see the whole room gives such peace of mind and talk back option is perfect. The infrared night-vision capability, night light and lullabies are valuable bonus extras. The bees knees of baby monitors and it looks good too. Yes, want it!

The large 4.3″ display so I can “monitor” bubs and know he is “secure” whether it’s “8.50”am or “8.50”pm. It would mean no more sneaking into the bedroom trying not to get caught or wake him up on the creaky floorboards.

I love the idea of monitor that has a camera! I think this is the best feature as although hearing when baby wakes on a monitor is helpful, nothing beats the peace of mind of being able to see that your baby is safe while they sleep without having to open the door and engage in ninja creeping or commando crawl status so you don’t wake them whilst you check! Im one of those parents who loves to check on my baby a lot during the night (even after 3 kids as we have had a family member pass away from SIDS) just to make sure they are ok and this would definitely help me get a better night sleep. I also love the fact that you can use the monitor to talk to them without having to go into the room, it amazes me how clever technology is these days!

Up to 8 hr battery life, for the confidence that it’s not going to stop working misleading you to think bubs ok and everything’s alright as nothing is being seen or heard.

My favourite feature would have to be the pan tilt camera! I am one of a very lucky few that can bring my preschool children to work with me, this feature would be tremendous in their playroom so I can keep an eye on them and view the full room from my office!

I love the talkback feature because when my son is starting to rouse if I gently say a few words I can often lull him back to sleep for another 40 mins or so. But if I were to go into his room I’d probably wake him too much and ruin any chance I had of getting him back to sleep.

I love that it’s multi camera capable. This means I could replace the horrible monitor I have in my toddler’s room and still have a fantastic monitor in the newborn’s room, and have it all feedback to one unit on my bedside table (instead of adding ANOTHER to the two I already have there!)

The pan-tilt-zoom feature is what I adore
Perfect for those times when I want to see more
If I’m concerned that the baby’s not breathing
Simply zoom in and see his chest move – so relieving!
As a new mum I tend to worry too much
And rouse him from sleep with my unpracticed touch.
But with Oricom, those times would be a thing of the past
I can see that he’s safe and rest easy at last.
Even when he crawls to the other side of the cot
The camera can follow (and he does this a LOT!)
And when he’s a toddler in his room with his toys
I can supervise and be far away from the noise
The Oricom can even detect that cheeky glint in his eye
(that makes him climb the wardrobe cos he thinks he can fly)
Just by tilting the monitor I can see where he’s gone
    A mama’s best friend isn’t diamonds – it’s Oricom!

    Favourite feature,
    Camera tilts and pans.
    Quietly motorised,
    It stealthily scans.
    Horizontal, vertical,
    Zooms in and out.
    Provides peace of mind,
    Without a doubt.

I love the infrared camera for night vision and digital zoom features. My son lost a son to S.I.D.S 16 years ago. He and his partner are expecting again, this would help give them some peace of mind when putting the new baby down. My son still suffers deeply from the loss of his son. I would love for him to have one of these.

So many features it’s hard to pick,
Seeing your baby on a monitor with just one click,
Soothing lullabies and the soft night light,
The Oricom Secure 850 got it right,
The parent talk back sounds so good,
Saves tip-toeing in watching where you stood,
A manoeuvrable camera would make it easy,
No more up and down trying to be sneaky.

The 2 way speaker is my favourite feature because I could calm and reassure my baby at ungodly hour awakenings by ‘Shhh shhh Shhhing’ through the monitor. No one wants to have to get up in the middle of winter or at 3 in the morning. This could be the most genius and practical feature in the history of baby monitors.

I have used standard baby cams before and you can always see where you want to see without going in and checking on bubs, this way I can move a massive 300 degrees to see my precious bundle of joy is safe and sound.. This is comfort <3 knowing my baby is safe without interrupting her sleep. xx
