When my boys were babies we didn’t need a baby monitor. To be honest we never actually saw the point of having one. Looking back I now know that it was because we lived in a small home so you could hear if they were crying or awake. When I was pregnant with Poppet we moved into our brand new home which is substantially larger with a completely different layout than our previous.
