D-Link products for the whole family

I have often looked at D-Link products while browsing Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and similar stores however thinking they were above my budget I always kept going without giving them much thought. Well they aren’t above my budget, the D-Link products are surprisingly affordable. I wish I had taken more time to check when I was looking for a baby monitor when Poppet was first born because I could have saved myself hundreds! For the past week I have been reviewing 3 items – 1x SanDisk and 2x D-Link products. The SanDisk Connect Flash Drive, D-Link’s new Wi-Fi Baby Camera Jr and the D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender. So what did I think?

D-Link Products

D-Link Wi-Fi Baby Camera Jr (DCS-700L)

This baby monitor is fantastic for the price attached to it. At $125 the Wi-Fi Baby Camera Jr is perfect for parents who cannot always be home with their little ones but still want to be able to check in or watch them sleep (because what parent hasn’t done that at one time or another?!). This D-Link baby monitor has made this possible and made it easy. *Obviously these children have someone looking after them.

Sharing a wide range of features this little portable camera allows parents to connect their devices wirelessly over the internet (Wi-Fi) and monitor their child wherever they are. With both local and remote viewing you can watch/listen to your baby at any time of the day. BabyBjorn High Chair {review}

Choosing a high chair is something all parents have to do at one point or another. It can also be quite a hard decision as there are so many varieties to choose from and features that vary. In the past we have always gone with the basic plastic high chair, no frill no fuss. These were not only a hell of a lot more affordable than some but in the spirit of honesty, the real reason we chose them was because we wanted to be able to just take it outside and hose it off. Yes I know, how lazy can one person be right? But let’s be honest – who wants to be spending 30 minutes cleaning every nook and cranny of a padded reclining high chair when you could just simply wipe it clean, knowing there is no place for excess food and germs to hide.

The only thing that has let down the no frills high chair over the years is that it seems so easy for the ‘Houdini’ children of mine to climb out, even if they have been strapped in. The gap between them and the tray just seems too much.  This is the reason I love the BabyBjorn High Chair so much. The tray/table can adjust to slide in and out to sit snuggly about your childs tummy, making it near impossible for the ‘escape artist child’ to get out. The table can be adjusted as your child grows. Poppet tries but is not even close to even looking like she can get a leg out. This quality high chair provides maximum safety for your child. It opens up so you can put your child in and take them out, this is done with a 2 step locking system. Simple for adults but inexecutable for a child. The BabyBjorn High Chair is suitable for children ages 6 months to 3 years.

The BabyBjorn High Chair is allows your child to sit in an upright position during meal time. This has more than one benefit in my opinion; children find it difficult to even try and stand which ultimately makes it harder for them to get out. It also promotes good back postures. As mentioned previously I love simple high chairs that can be cleaned with ease and the BabyBjorn high chair allows this but with the added benefits of it providing safety for my child. The smooth surfaces prevent food hiding anywhere and the removable tray makes for a very easy clean. The removable tray simply clips off and has the added benefit of being dishwasher safe, I think the tray clips off a little too easy though as Poppet can take it off but that is really the only downfall the BabyBjorn High Chair has. Featuring an innovative design this attractive high chair folds with ease to only 25cm wide which makes it achievable to store and transport. Costing a bit more than I would usually pay for a high chair, I can say with all sincerity – it is worth every cent! The safety features and ease to clean make the BabyBjorn high chair my number one choice.

Anyone with little kids knows that it isn’t always possible to take a pram with you. Often prams and strollers don’t even fit down isles at the shops so you will need another option. Baby carriers are a great alternative as you have the privilege of having two spare hands. The BabyBjorn baby carrier WE has been a life saver these school holidays as we have been fishing, camping and experiencing a night in a cabin at a Big 4 holiday park. We have done so much walking and this carrier has made it hassle-free. Poppet has been able to enjoy the sights and activities while on the move, as well take comfort in not having to walk her little legs kilometres at a time. We started her with the inward-facing carrying as she was tired and she fell asleep almost instantly. She appeared to be so relaxed and comfortable. Once she woke, we were still out and about so swapped her to the back carrying position and she loved being able to look around and see everything. It is basically like a piggy back but I have 2 free hands! Poppet has also slept in this back carrying position on more than one occasion.

I love that it is so easy to swap positions of carrying and that the straps are adjustable enough that I can swap over with Mr C with minimal fuss and it only takes a few seconds to re-adjust the waist belt and shoulder straps to fit you comfortably. The sturdy waist belt and well-padded shoulder straps allow carrying your child in as much comfort as possible. The waist belt enables you to transfer the child’s weight to your hips to relieve pressure on your back and shoulders. Another benefit to the BabyBjorn WE baby carrier is it rolls up small making storing or keeping it with you on the go a breeze. TEC Accessories review + giveaway

To follow on from our Father’s Day gift guide I am sharing some great products from TEC Accessories, their reviews and a chance to get your hot little hands on them. Not every dad is a socks and jocks type of guy and as much as they may put on the big smile when they are handed the pencil tin covered in paddle pop sticks they would often prefer something a bit more manly and practical. Glow fob

The first draw card to the TEC Accessories Glow Fob is that it glows! Who doesn’t love stuff that glows in the dark? This deep seeded obsession interest began when I was a child. Every time we went to a show, a fair or a rodeo, if they had glow sticks I absolutely had to have one. The simple joy of having a bright coloured light to wave around provided hours of endless entertainment. The TEC-S3 does exactly that (minus me spinning in circles trying to make words with the glow aura). While it is only small; the sleek and stylish Glow Fob is perfect for every dad whether he is the adventure man, camper, office worker, policeman or a plumber, farmer, writer, etc. It glows, it’s fun, it’s unique ~ what else needs to be said? 

Built with exceptional craftsman ship and made from stainless steel it puts out a satisfactory glow that can last for up to 12 hours. For the adventurers out there the glow pellet can be removed via a O ring at the bottom and replaced with a make your own kit if you want to use Tritium. The glow reminds me of a radioactive glow (like in The Simpsons) and it’s almost certain to be zombie proof for the preppers out there. The glow fob can be added to anything that you may need to find in the dark like car keys, torch/flashlight, fishing gear or even putting on kids jackets when camping. As you can see in the picture above the brightness and glow intensity is nothing to be disappointed about.

The only down side is it needs to be charged in light with sun light giving the best results. So if you can store the fob near some form of light during the day there is no down side. There are a few different options available: $18 aluminium, $23 stainless steel and $36 for titanium.

Centipede ruler

The Centipede ruler is Titanium and Titanium is awesome!!! Its 8cm of effortless measuring. I cannot count the amount of times I’ve measured something against my finger and tried to remember roughly the length of what I needed. I thought how often could I possibly use an 8cm ruler and the answer is simply a lot more than I ever would of imagined. Now that I have it hanging with my keys it takes away my more often than not wrong guess work. Did I mention it’s made from Titanium? Measuring in at 87mm long and 4mm wide; there are reference points at every 2mm and each cm making it uncomplicated to use. It has a strong and solid feel and like everything TEC Accessories its top shelf quality. The Centipede ruler is also available in imperial measurements (known as the Inch Worm) if you or more importantly dad like to kick it old school. At a mere $21 you absolutely need one of these cool bits of gear.

P-7 suspension clip        

This is a small clip at only 4cm (yes I measured it with my centipede) and it does exactly what it was intended for. It holds your keys or whatever you decide to hang from it tightly to your pocket allowing them to nicely hang and know they’re not going to stab in to your leg when you sit down. I have also found it exceptionally great to locate my keys from the Pandora’s box my wife calls a hand bag on the occasions I ask her to look after them for me. It’s a great addition to your favourite key ring thanks to it’s minimalist design. The P-7 Suspension clip is made of spring tempered stainless steel so you can trust it will hold its shape and be reliable for years to come. The quality is as usual, excellent. $12 for one or a twin pack for $20.

Python clip

Crafted with polished stainless steel with 3 speed holes gives it a smooth quality look. They are small  and very easy to use clips. Consisting of a strong spring gate that has a good amount of resistance and is wide enough for my fat fingers to simply attach and detach from my key ring. The spring gate sits snugly in a guard making it impossible for anything to unintentionally slide underneath it and be lost. The Python Clip can be used for almost anything that you can think of;  I use these for a small pocket knife which I obviously can’t leave on my keys at all times and on a usb so I don’t have to have my keys hanging from my computer every time I need to use it. They say small things amuse small minds ~ say what you will because I absolutely love them! You can purchase them for $5.25 ea or $5 ea if you buy 3 or more.

Split ring kit

The Split Ring Kit gives you 3 or 4 of the most popular sizes (depending which kit you choose) of split rings for adding accessories to your keyring. With the sizes ranging from small rings to tiny ones, these kits will give you endless combinations to add anything you can think of to your keys whilst keeping a nice proportional tidy look. They are a great quality and thickness for their size and have good metal memory to spring back to their original shape once spread and added to whatever you need. Retailing for only $3 they are an absolute bargain!

Snap ring pliers

Initially I didn’t think I would need these snap ring pliers but once you realise how awesomely small some of the split rings are they are a must have. If you’ve ever tried to put a tiny split ring on anything you will know how frustrating it can be and not to mention the longer and wider you have it spread open the sloppier the end product looks, no one wants a split ring that is bent out of shape hanging from their keys. Realistically at only $3 its money well spent even if you only use it once.

They are well made quality pliers with a simple design. The wedge on one side makes it easy to spread split rings open and grip them enough to start twisting the ring on to anything your heart desires.
