Well I would love someone to tell me how to ensure bub and I get a good nights sleep! After 3 kids I still haven’t figured it out and am sleep deprived for most of my life haha 🙂 But seriously one of the most important factors I think for a baby is to keep them at the right temperature when sleeping – if they are too hot or cold they wake up 🙂

I wash the sheets with a drop of lavender oil in the wash for a calming scent. The room is nice and warm with curtains for just the right ammount of darkness.

A feed with mum for a full little tummy
Then bathtime with dad is always quite funny
Cuddles from both and a sweet kiss goodnight
Tucked in safe and secure we turn out the light
Our sweet little boy we wish you sweet dreams
This bedtime routine seems to work quite the treat

    make them sleepy fast,
best sleep for you and bub!

Following a bedtime routine (bath, feed, cuddle), putting them down when sleepy and keeping the room dark seemed to help my bubs sleep well!

For myself I find essential oils indispensable. Place some drops on a tissue and breathe it in to soothe, aid in sleeping, relieve congestion and combat stale air.
For baby wrap a ticking clock in a small soft blanket and lay it near the baby so they can hear the muffled sound. They’ll fall asleep comforted by the simulated sound of a mother’s heartbeat. Alternatively take a break and ask Daddy to try his luck with getting baby to sleep. Recommend he read the sports page or sing all the choruses to “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.” That should do it!

After a warm bath and good feeding, swaddle them up while making sure the surrounding is quiet and dark. It helps bub fall asleep and is also good for setting up bub’s sleeping routine.

Bath, feed, bed and make sure the temperature is cozy and the room is quiet, nice relaxing background music helps.

I TRY to ensure a good nights sleep for bub by following a routine, making sure bubs is going to be warm enough on those really cold nights and the most important thing is giving him his “blankie” to snuggle into.

A cuddle in our rocking chair,
Is what works for us best,
    Singing a lullaby until sleepy,
Holding him close to my chest.

    26/05/2014 / 10:51 pm

Putting on my onesie so I’m snug like a bear.
Does the trick for me, I sleep with no care.
My baby boy loves a cuddle while resting his head.
While I sing him ‘ Your song’ and then put him to bed.

For a few months I fell for the I’ll-tire-him-out-during-the-day-so-he’ll-be-exhausted-at-night theory. It doesn’t work. It just made him cranky all afternoon, during dinner, and made bed time more difficult. Routine seems to work best. A bath, PJs, a book and then sleep usually follows within 5 minutes.

I try to minimise any unecessary stimuli before bedtime (eg. television, radio etc). Make sure bubs is well fed and burped, no draughts in room, nappy nice and dry, enough layers to keep bubs warm and tucked in nicely as per safe sleeping recommendations. Most importantly cuddles and kisses!

    31/05/2014 / 8:44 pm

I ensure bub gets a good night sleep by making sure he feels safe and content, clean nappy, full belly and not too hot or too cold. If he sleeps well then I do too

  37. Melissa
    01/06/2014 / 7:45 am

I make sure bubs has a full tummy, clean nappy and I leave him once asleep, first turning on the sleep sound monitor so I have piece of mind and can actually get to sleep!

  38. 01/06/2014 / 8:34 am

  51. Rosemary
    03/06/2014 / 10:43 pm

I ensure baby is comfortably dressed following feeding, bathing and soothing with a gentle massage. I ensure that the bedding is fitted safely before I put our precious little angel into his “bed”, give him a quick cuddle and kiss goodnight, cover him up, ensuring that he cannot pull his sheet and blanket over his face. I am fortunate that he settles and goes to sleep quickly most nights Prior to bedtime I have to impose quiet time with his older sister or she excites him rather than letting him wind down quickly of his own accord.

  54. Kaz Purtill-Wright
    06/06/2014 / 9:01 pm

To help bub get a good night sleep I do the things lots of people try, wrapping, relaxation massage before bed and sometimes white noise etc. Of course these things often don’t work when baby is little, so to guarantee my good night sleep, I express and hand night time duty to daddy. Instant success for me.
