Suck it up! + Dyson Giveaway

So we all know that cleaning the house is one of those painstaking jobs that seem to be repeating like Groundhog Day, especially when there are children in the house. They always seem to attract dirt that instantly falls off the second they get inside and 9 times out of 10 it is on the carpet. Don’t even get me started on the sand – where does it comes from? We don’t have a sandpit or live near a beach! You may remember me talking about my love of Dyson DC24 Hepa and how well it sucks up the dirt from everywhere – well its life is unfortunately slowly coming to an end. I will be sad to see it go because it has been put through some tough times in its long life and has always come out the other side ready for its next run but it’s getting old and on its way out. Over the past 2 weeks I have been trialling 2 Dyson vacuum cleaners and geez have they come along way! Not saying they weren’t great before but technology has sure advanced. 2 lucky readers will also have the chance to trial one of these vacuum cleaners and receive a 20% discount if they wanted to purchase it after their trial.

Dyson DC54

The Dyson CineticTM DC54 is everything and more that I’d want in a vacuum cleaner! It contains no bags or filters which means no stuffing around and trying to remember to replace, purchase and clean anything – just empty when the hygienic bin is full and off you go again. My house is quite large and I have to empty it every 2nd time I vacuum which isn’t too bad. It is also very easy to empty; simply press a button and empty directly into your bin. When swapping from tiles to carpet there is no need to change over heads or modify anything, it works on all surfaces which is fantastic because it saves a few more seconds I’d otherwise spend cleaning. While this isn’t the smallest machine on the market it is very easy to manoeuvre around furniture and walls which is a must have when purchasing a pull along vacuum cleaner. My kids favourite part of the vacuum is of course the auto cord windup because our current vacuum is an upright so they have never experienced the joy from the cord winding itself up with the push of a button. Now the most important thing anyone wants to know when researching vacuums – DOES IT SUCK? Yes it does, even when the hygienic bin is full it doesn’t lose suction. The Dyson Cinetic™ is the only machine with no bags, no loss of suction, and no filter fuss. RRP: DC54 Animal Pro (RRP$1099), DC54 Animal (RRP$999), DC54 Allergy (RRP$899), DC54 Multi floor (RRP$799). Find the new Dyson Cinetic™ at www.Dyson.com.au.

Dyson DC59

The Dyson Digital Slim DC59 is a mean piece of equipment if you’re looking for something compact and cordless. It’s lightweight at only 2kg yet has been designed to provide the sucking power of a full size machine. I love how easy it is to manoeuvre into all the hard to reach places that are always painful to clean and since the new V6 motor has been designed specifically for this machine it is one and a half times more powerful than the previous version of the motor. I own a DC44 which has the previous motor and there is so much difference. While mine works great for what I use it for the DC59 is a clear winner if I were looking to purchase another cordless. I love this machine for quick tidy ups because it is simply quicker than plugging in the big vacuum for a small mess. The battery lasts for 20 minutes which is more than sufficient for what I have been using it for however for anything more than that I would use a mains vacuum cleaner because I couldn’t vacuum my whole house in 20 minutes. The latest Dyson Digital Slim™ DC59 vacuum is lightweight, cordless, and packs the same power as a mains vacuum cleaner. RRP $649 for the Animal model and $599 for the Multi floor. Find the new Dyson Digital Slim at www.Dyson.com.au.

How to clean/ vacuum under sofa without moving it- standard vacuum nozzles just won’t fit underneath

Some of the Dysons actually have a thin nozzle/vacuum attachment bit that fits under the low gaps. Genius idea really!

Although a Vacuum is a wonderfully practical invention, it a wonderfully impractical invention to store!
I would love to see a model that is compact or can easily be hidden away!

Yes I agree Amanda! The Dyson cordless vacuums actually come with a tidy bracket that you can put on the wall to store your attachments, vacuum cleaner and charge it.

Great idea Mick – this is one job I always forget about, maybe it’s because I know it’s a time consuming job.

I’d love a strong, powerful vacuum that guarantees to give the best clean that also has steaming capabilities. This way I could perform periodic “spring cleaning” without the expense of hiring a steam cleaner and it would also be handy for those “little spills” that happen haphazardly around the house. Lastly, if it’s not pushing the “friendship” it would need to be lightweight and ergonomic for those of us with ailing bodies!

Sounds like bliss! Having a machine that could do all this.

I want a vacuum cleaner that can clean the skirting boards in my house too. Crawling around on my hands and knees wiping them constantly: not fun!

    • Mad Mummas
      22/11/2013 / 8:38 pm

What a time consuming and back breaking job! I just use the attachment with the bristles and run it around the skirting boards. Works a treat 🙂

I want a vacuum that does the job without me, I just had to return my third robotic vac for a refund, I believe Dyson need to tackle this sector- I would buy one!

I would take out a loan for a vacuum that did did the job for me – properly. I haven’t used a robotic vac myself but if there was one that did a better job than I do all by itself then count me in!

With 4 very active boys in my household I feel as if I can never get my carpets clean. From all the dirt and mud tracked inside everytime they go out (and have to then come back in), from my two littlest who love to play outside in the sandpit and who seem to always have their pockets and cuffs of their pants filled with sand, which just happens to fall out when they sit on the floor, to all the food crumbs from 4 boys treating each meal as a race and as if there is a prize for both the first finished and the one who eats the messiest. Add to it, a husband who still has not learnt to take his work boots off outside, as well as a mostly outdoor cat who comes inside to preen himself, my carpets just never seem clean. We did spent our 5 year olds “baby bonus” on the top of the range model back then, but after 5 years of almost daily use, it is almost ready to be retired and I am sure the technology has come such a long long way since then and I would love to trial one and see what it can do for my poor neglected carpets.

I feel your pain!! I have 2 boys that seem to bring half the sandpit home from school everyday, the dirt they dig outside, muddy boots (from the husband) and then there’s the dog (outside dog) that seems to hair that’s attracted to the tiles inside.

If I could clean my flyscreens, fans and Architraves without the usual athletic & sloppy requirements I’d be a happy woman! (well happier 😉 )

I would love a vacuum that has a spider web attachment on it so if there is spiders in there webs it sucks them up at the same time and there is no need to touch the webs!! Ewwww Creepy.

    • Mad Mummas
      22/11/2013 / 9:03 pm

LOVE this idea. I’m not a fan of spiders at all.

I want the Dyson engineers to magically lift the ground-in Husky fur from my rugs! And if they could send along a hot man along to vacuum for me, I’d love them even more 🙂

Living in a Motorhome means less space, but unfortunately it doesn’t mean less dirt!! We have boys – and they sure can make a mess…dirt, mud, rain, sand, grass and so much more is tracked into our Motorhome every day! And the beds – gosh how can they sleep with all that in their sheets, yet it doesn’t seem to bother them. Would love to know how to keep the floors clean – I sweep yet it doesn’t seem like I have cleaned at all.

I lived in a caravan until I was 6 or 7 and I remember mum always cleaning the floor but it never seemed to make much difference. (Maybe me and my brother traipsing alldirt through didn’t help).

I’d like Dyson to make a separate section that could be added on somehow (or by removing some part/s of say a DC54 that would then let you shampoo the carpet as well, ie a Vacuum & a Carpet Cleaner in the one machine.

    • Mad Mummas
      22/11/2013 / 9:12 pm

I LOVE this idea! I would use it all the time.

Perhaps one that comes with it’s own coffee table of various designs with solid sides, one side opens, but they all hold the Dyson vacuum stored completely underneath. Or other furniture, say a storage box designed to fit with a hinged top that opens to get the vacuum in/out & with padded cushion top or tray design & with various colours to suit you.

    • Mad Mummas
      22/11/2013 / 9:14 pm

I like your thinking Joanne! Stylish and practical.

Weetbix and reflux. Some kind of wet and dry vac on steroids would do the tricks, anything to get us through the infant and toddler years!

hahaha I agree Elise! I have 2 boys aged 6 & 4 and they make enough mess but my 5 month old daughter is not going to be far off the smooshing food into everything stage.
