The Best Haircuts for Females with Thinning Hair

14/12/2014 By All Mum Said 1 Comment

If your hair is thinning, a good haircut will be important to you. Although you may notice the thinning of your hair and be worried about exacerbating the issue, it’s still possible to get a great haircut and colour, and style your hair using heat. In doing anything at all to your hair, it is important that you are strategic and careful about chemical styling and processing.

What do we know about hair?

As hair care experts know, the hair that protrudes from the head is dead. The part of the hair that is alive is beneath the scalp in the hair follicle. We colour and style the hair shaft, which is composed of keratin, and the outer layer of the hair shaft (the cuticle) is strong, resilient and smooth when your hair is healthy.

For more information about this, refer to a credible website such as www.transitionshair.com.au that is backed by knowledgeable hair loss professionals. It’s worth understanding that when hair is blow-dried in a particular way and selected styling products are used, the layers of the cuticle are not smooth, but fluffed up, and you hair appears fuller. This is important to females with thinning hair and it is heartening for them to know that concealing bald spots, thinning hair and receding hairlines is entirely possible.

The best haircuts for thinning hair

1. A short, classic bob

Hair which is thinning all over or has skimpy parts at the back of the head or crown can be disguised by a blunt-cut, chin-length bob. If your hairline is thin, a fringe which is swept to the side can hide this. An added benefit of this haircut is that it requires little maintenance, is versatile and can be blow-dried and styled to appear more full. The short, classic bob is/was favoured by women such as: Anna Wintour and Jackie O.

2. The short, choppy bob

To create a fuller look, layers of irregular lengths can be added to a classic bob; this gives a shaggy and quite tousled look and delivers the effect of more hair and texture. This style is great for women whose hair is thinning at the crown or the back of the head. Helen Mirren and Meg Ryan are renowned for sporting the short, choppy bob.

3. Mid-length cut that brushes the shoulders

Women with thin hair are best advised to avoid very long hair, and a mid-length cut that grazes the shoulders is about as long as it is recommended that a woman with thinning hair goes. However, a mid-length cut creates the impression of longer hair and looks great when angled, long layers are cut around the face. It’s important that weight is removed from the ends so that the hair has some movement. This cut is synonymous with stylish women including Susan Sarandon and Suzanne Somers.

4. A short, layered crop with a fringe

This cut looks edgy but also sophisticated and quite sexy. If your hair is thinning at the hairline, this cut may suit you well – especially if you have a strong, defined jaw-line and a good neck. Shirley MacLaine, Annette Bening and Judy Dench wear the short, layered crop with a fringe very well.

If your hair is thinning, make sure you get a great haircut that can help to disguise your thinning hair. When you have a great cut, use a great blow-drying technique and styling products of the right texture to build the fullness of your hair.

5 Simple Backyard Upgrades

13/12/2014 By All Mum Said 2 Comments

When people think about backyard upgrades, they often think of expensive ‘backyard blitz’ type projects. For many, the task just seems too big! Upgrading your backyard needn’t be expensive or arduous. It could be as simple as new turf, a splash of colour or a new backyard feature. You needn’t call the bank, an earthmover and a landscape architect to give your backyard an upgrade. It can be easy.

Simple Backyard Upgrades

Check out these five simple tips for upgrading your backyard:

Turf

Check out your lawn. Does it never look quite right? Can’t seem to get rid of those weeds? It might be high time that you consider re-turfing your backyard. So many backyards are a mish-mash of grass varieties (and a generous mix of weeds!) that really drag down the appearance and functionality of a yard. It’s always worth chatting to a turf expert such as Hanceys Turf to see how much of a difference laying new turf could make to your backyard area.

Re-mulch

Mulch does a world of good for your gardens. It keeps in moisture, helps prevent weed growth and protects a newly established garden. Think about gardens you see in magazines or display homes – they are all mulched. A fresh layer of mulch on an existing or established garden can improve your garden instantly.

Fresh Colour

Is your potted colour more pot than colour? Your decorative bushes turned an eyesore? Perhaps it’s high time you invest in some fresh colour for your garden. Think about the existing colours of your yard – what will suit in with your existing scheme? Is there a new colour or theme you want to experiment with? In-season flowers or annuals can really upgrade a tired looking yard.

A Backyard Feature

You’ve probably got an interesting feature for inside your house – a nice painting, an eye-catching vase or an exotic piece of art. Why not have an interesting feature for outdoors? It needn’t be expensive or garish – something like a bird-bath, simple water feature or potted centre-piece can really upgrade an otherwise mediocre backyard

Something To Sit On

So you’ve invested in a great lawn, coloured up your garden and have something beautiful to look at. Now what? Something to sit on! When you’ve got a beautiful backyard, you want to be able to sit and enjoy it. Something to watch the kids or grandkids from. Somewhere to lounge on a lazy Sunday afternoon. A place to enjoy the warm sunshine and coffee in the morning. A comfy, functional outdoor chair is worth its weight in gold!

Upgrading your backyard can be easy and inexpensive. New turf, a fresh layer of mulch and colour, something to look at and something new to sit on can do wonders for your yard! Have you found these tips helpful?

Have you recently upgraded or improved your backyard? What worked, or didn’t work for you? Have you got any nuggets of gold you can share?

Drop your ideas and thoughts in the comments below.

The Morning After with HeadsUp + Giveaway

09/12/2014 By All Mum Said 20 Comments

The joyous season is here and with all events that are jolly, the food and drinks come out and play a huge part in the festivities. Many drink (some way too much) and more often than not the morning after is riddled with hangovers. No one ever says ‘How great was that hangover this morning?’. NO. They don’t want a great memorable night ruined by the unrelenting hammer pounding misery of a headache the following morning.

Please don’t hate me but I have been very fortunate to have never experienced a hangover. No matter how much I have had to drink, I always wake up fine the following morning with the exception of a very dry mouth. My husband on the other hand doesn’t have to drink much at all and will rise (not voluntarily) with a cracker of hangover. He suffers the desert resembling dry mouth, buckling headache, feeling like pencils are stabbing into his eyes, along with so much more. I know he isn’t alone in his misery and that with all the Christmas parties and celebrations, there are going to be a lot of men and women struggling to get out of bed the morning after a night out.

I was recently asked to review a new product on the market, HeadsUp, that helps prevent the dreaded hangover however as I don’t get hangovers I thought I’d keep one for Mr C and share the remaining products with you wonderful fans and let you review them. You can score a prize pack below but first I want to share some more about this revolutionary product. HeadsUp is very simple to use. It’s as easy to taking a few tablets before going to bed after consuming alcohol.

By supporting the body’s natural elimination of toxins HeadsUp doesn’t just mask hangover symptoms, it defeats them before you wake up. Even if you are a sceptic and you think this 100% natural, Australian made product won’t work; surely it’s worth giving a go. You may even find you don’t wake up feeling like someone has hit you repeatedly with a piece of 2×4. I have been told that sums up a hangover and I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sound very appealing after enjoying a great night. You can purchase HeapsUp by BioRestore in single pack (contains 4x tablets) $9.95, six packs for $49.75 or for the pro partier there is 12 packs for $99.50.

**Please Drink Responsibly**

 HeadsUp

This prize pack will have you sorted for the celebration season! I’d love it if winners could share their thoughts, reviews, expectations of the products with me to share on the blog when they have put it to the test.

3x PRIZES UP FOR GRABS
