Ready to venture further afield? This area is primed for choice when it comes to kid (and adult) friendly activities that are designed to delight and excite.

Sea Life

Travel to nearby Mooloolaba to visit Sea Life (once known as Underwater World). Travel the pathway beneath an impressive tank filled with fish and sharks. Take in a seal show (they’re really funny!) and explore a number of ever-changing exhibits. There’s a café onsite as well as a play area for little ones who need to stretch their legs and burn off some energy.

Make sure you pay a visit to the gift shop to commemorate your fun day out with some souvenirs! There’s parking available on site but it can get a little busy during peak times so be prepared to wait it out for a park. There are a number of great dining options nearby including a Hog’s Breath café and other little spots, so you definitely won’t be heading home hungry!

Australia Zoo

Australia Zoo - crocodile feeding

Lucky you! You’re nearby what’s arguably one of the best wildlife experiences in Australia. Open all year round, this is a veritable excitement FEST for little ones and big ones alike! Animal encounters, conservation information and a real focus on sustainability, make this an experience not to be missed. Get in quick!

The Irwin family is often onsite which will be a great reward for those of us who like to get a little star-struck. You’ll find animals from all over the world here, not just from Australia, and you’ll DEFINITELY need to take in a crocodile feeding show. Crikey!

Big Pineapple and Wild HQ

Still thirsty for more animal viewing? You’re in luck. The nearby old fashioned Big Pineapple has had a serious upgrade and now includes Wild HQ – a zoo onsite! As per Australia Zoo, you can have animal experiences and encounters all set amongst a gorgeous backdrop. This is a lower-key animal-themed day out that will really appeal to those of us with younger children.

There are a few calm rides on site (like the little train that takes you on a tour of the nearby planting fields) and lots of history (pineapple themed, of course) to soak up. You’ll also be able to purchase and take home with you some DELICIOUS snacks and make sure you try one of the famous ice-creams in the onsite restaurant.

Aussie World

Thrill-seekers unite! Aussie World is a ‘theme park on a budget’ and is smaller than the attractions you’ll find on the Gold Coast. That being said, it’s still an incredible day out that will see you have fun on rides, dine on the very finest in carnival fare food and come back to your room EXHAUSTED. It’s fun on a budget and it’s one of the best things to do near Maroochydore with kids.

Make sure you bring the camera because there’ll be plenty of opportunities to capture some classic shots! You’ll want to treasure these memories long after you’ve shaken the sand out of your suitcases.
