Hunter Valley ANZAC Day Services

ANZAC Day is one of Australia’s most important national days of remembrance. Marking the anniversary of Australia and New Zealand’s first major military action in Gallipoli on 25th April 1915.

Traditionally ANZAC Day was to commemorate those who served and gave their lives in the First World War however over the years this national day has come to mean different things to different people. Australians today, use ANZAC Day to remember and honour all the Australian and New Zealand men and women who have served and died in world wars and peacekeeping resolutions.

ANZAC Day services in Hunter Valley

Hunter Valley locals have several ANZAC Day services to choose from and many of these options include both dawn services and main marches. See below for a comprehensive list of Hunter Valley ANZAC Day services.


9:30am – Main service.
Where – Veterans’ Park, Aberdare Road, Aberdare.


6:00am – Dawn service.
Where – At memorial in Moray Street.

8:30am – Marchers assemble.
Where – Assembly point near pre-school in Bedford Street.

9:10am – March and Remembrance service.
Where – Band leads marching parade onto New England Highway and then turns into Moray Street.

Bar Beach

7:30am – Main service.
Where – Memorial Drive.


5:40am – Dawn service.
Where – Beresfield Community War Memorial.


5:20am – Dawn service.
Where – Branxton rotunda, John Rose Avenue, Branxton.

11:15am – Main march.
Where – Starts from corner of New England Highway and Elderslie Street to Branxton rotunda.


5:30am – Dawn service.
Where – War Memorial, Darwin Street (TAFE grounds).

11:15am – Main march.
Where – Starts at Cessnock Ex-Services Club to War Memorial for service.


6:00am – Dawn service.
Where – Memorial Park, Paxton Street.

11:00am – Church service followed by main march and service.
Where – Assemble at St Matthias Church, Palace Street. March leaves north along Palace Street to Ogilvie Street, then west to Paxton Street, through to Memorial Park.


5:30am – Dawn service.
Where – Dungog RSL, Lord Street.

7:00am – War graves service.
Where – Dungog Cemetery.

10:00am – Assemble for morning march. Marchers depart at 10.30am along Dowling Street.

East Maitland

11:20am – March and service.
Where – Assemble East Maitland War Memorial, Newcastle Road, East Maitland.


5:30am – Dawn service.
Where – Cenotaph on New England Highway, Greta.

9:30am – Main march to service.
Where – March from corner of Nelson Street to Greta cenotaph for service.

Kurri Kurri

5:00am – Dawn service.
Where – Rotary Park cenotaph, Kurri Kurri.

9:45am – Main march from Mitre 10 (139 Lang Street) to cenotaph.
Where – Rotary Park cenotaph, Kurri Kurri.

10:00am – Service.
Where – Rotary Park cenotaph, Kurri Kurri.


5:35am – Dawn service.
Where – WWI Cenotaph, Maitland Park.

10:15am – March and main service.
Where – March commences at 10:30am from the Fire Station, Church Street and ends at  WWI Cenotaph, Maitland Park.


5:40am – Dawn service.
Where – Cenotaph, Merriwa.

10:30am – Main march and service.
Where – Commences out the front of Merriwa RSL club to cenotaph. The remembrance service starts at 10:45am.


10:45am – Main march.
Where – Marchers assemble opposite Campbell’s Store (corner of Tank and Swan Street, Morpeth) and march along Swan Street to the War Memorial in front of Morpeth Museum. Service begins at 11:15am.


6:00am – Dawn service.
Where – Memorial Gates, Bowls Club, Murrurundi.

10:45am – Main march and service.
Where – Marchers assemble at Adelaide Street and march to the Murrurundi Memorial Gates where the service takes place at 11:30am.


6:00am – Dawn service.
Where – Muswellbrook cenotaph.

11:00am – Main march & service.
Where – Muswellbrook cenotaph.


5:00 – Dawn service.
Where – Camp Shortland, Newcastle Foreshore, Nobby’s Beach.

9:15am – Main march.
Where – Hunter Valley to Civic Park.

10:00am – United Commemoration Service.
Where – Civic Park, Newcastle.

Fort Scratchley

12:00pm to 4:00pm – Firing of the guns and Open Day.

5:30am – Dawn service.
Where – Paterson Cenotaph


6:00am – Dawn service
Where – War Memorial Swimming Pool

10:30am – Marchers assemble
Where – Kelly Street, Scone.


5:00am – Dawn service.
Where – Burdekin Park Cenotaph, Singleton.


9:00am – Main march and service.
Where – March starts at Weston RSL Sub-Branch hall and proceeds around Cessnock Road, the hall, First Street and Station Street then back to the cenotaph for the service.
