Toy Shopping In Your Pj’s + Giveaway

It’s the end of financial year which means The Big W – Giant Toy Spectacularsales are about to begin and I can get a start on Christmas shopping. There is nothing I enjoy more than a good sale, except maybe being able to shop from the comfort of my own home. With the convenience of online shopping I can do it at any time of the day, wear my pyjamas and ugg boots or even enjoy a glass of wine while I shop!

The online sale begins on the 20th June and ends on the 10th July. I was fortunate enough to receive a gift card to personally experience shopping with Big W online. I told my kids they had a set amount to spend and could get whatever toys they liked within the budget from the toy section on the website, they were absolutely thrilled and found it so simple to pick and choose the toys of choice. I had considered using the voucher to purchase their Xmas gifts but I seem to be quite out of touch lately with what toys are ‘in’ and toys are ‘so last week’ and figured my boys are the toy experts and left the decision in their capable hands.

Last year I used the Big W Toy Spectacular Sale to purchase Christmas presents and must say that the Christmas Layby Service was a massive help. It allowed us to be select the items we wanted and pay them off over 6 months!

It’d be a race to the check-outs in our family as to who gets their prized toy!
We’ve been scouring the Big W toy sale catalogue and so far…
Miss 5 has picked out the amazing 3-storey Barbie Dream House.
Miss 3’s chosen the cute Dora the Explorer Play Kitchen.
My 17mth old just wants to play with the catalogue!
My eye is on the TMNT Quad Bike. (They are for the mums to ride on aren’t they?) 😀
My biggest kid (aka the hubby) has requested the Electric Slot Car Set, Remote Control Monster Truck, the entire range of Nerf guns, Alpine Spa and an Xbox… Hmm, well let’s hope he’s been good this year with a wishlist like that! Though I have a feeling he’s currently on Santa’s naughty list! 😉

My two year old twin girls would absolutely adore, the Dora the Explorer Play Kitchen, Mummy wishes it was a real ‘dinner cooking’ one…..but I guess I’ll just keep wishin’. At least my girls will have hours of fun, ‘play’ cooking cakes and biscuits galore, and maybe, finally, Mummy could go to the toilet ‘alone’…..oh yes, now that I would adore!

  30. Ashley
    19/06/2013 / 7:55 pm

Actually I think the gift card should be donated to a family who cannot afford to give their kids any presents this year. I can afford to spoil my three boys but many families cannot even afford to buy one gift. Every child deserves a gift at Christmas. I would buy gifts for those in need and place them under the tree inside the store. xoxox

  31. Pippa
    19/06/2013 / 8:27 pm

Big W Toy Spectacular, it’s hard to decide!

  86. 24/06/2013 / 4:26 pm

I would definitely go for bikes for my kids. Or maybe a trampoline. Or a scooter each. Or lego … So hard to choose!

Two little girls – happy they would be,
A LaLaLoopsy doll each means never ending glee!

  89. 24/06/2013 / 8:35 pm

I wouldn’t even know where to start. However, surprisingly my 12, 13 & 15 year old together with DH are still ALL into Lego. I’m also almost at the end completing a 6000 piece jigsaw, so a much smaller easier one for next time round.

Too much to choose from, too much I want. Although something for the kids is probably the way to go. A big kid at heart I love this stuff too, games or lego, something we can all do.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 4 pack, Secret Sewer Lair Playset and Shellraiser. I’ll… I mean my son will have a great time playing with these.

Some classic board games from Big W would definitely be on our list,
Mouse Trap, Pictionary, Operation and Twister at these prices are hard to resist.
Then the whole family and our friends can all play,
and laugh, learn and have fun along the way.

NINJA TURTLES are all that is important in life to my 4yo son. My 7yo son loves Lego and we all know that neither of these brands are cheap. My tomboy 2yo daughter loves anything of her brothers that she can get her little paws on ;). Over all I think dress ups are the most used and asked for ‘play thing’ in my house so this would be the go for us.

    Their little hearts aflutter
The Big W catalogue creates excited mutters
Miss 5 being a Pillow Pet fan
She chooses a constant cuddly friend
    Combine it with the blanket
We have found the perfect toy
Keeping her perfectly warm and snuggly
Watching TV or a movie to enjoy.

Miss 2, she just loves mischief
Give her pens, she runs amuck
Writing on the walls, on big brother’s favourite truck
That’s why she’d love the Doodle Bear
Fisher Price has supplied the perfect love affair
Confine her scribbles to her toy
    With washable markers I’d enjoy.

Mr 9 is a typical boy
His desire for speed, the ultimate joy!
    The transparent Retro Skateboard
Would stop him sock sliding through the house
I personally can’t wait for the sale
I’m darning socks like a busy church mouse.

I dont have a clever hook, or a fancy rhyme. Just a bit love of doing stuff as a family so this would go towards a new cricket set, some footies, jump ropes and definitely some new fishing lines!

Mmmm what toys to purchase for my kids, such a hard choice to pick
Maybe something that mummy and daddy can also play would be fantastic 🙂
Lego Creationary Board Game is something for us all to play together
Letting us get creative and have quality fun time as a family in all kinds of weather
The Barbie and Ken Beach Cruiser would make my daughter cuddle me with affection
As she is just getting into Barbie and this would help kick start her collection
The Lego Creator 3 in 1 tree house both my kids would absolutely adore
So as you can see I can easily spend the $100 gift voucher in the big w store 🙂

My wishlist of toys is a different kind…
My goal? To make my hubby lose his mind!
You see, dear old Dad has declared, “NO MORE TOYS!”
He detests all those pieces, and ones that make noise!

    1) LEGO Star Wars “Death Star”! This is it!
    3803 pieces?! He’ll have a fit!
    2) Followed by the “Despicable Me 2 ‘FART Blaster’!
An ingenious toy! (But for Dad? A disaster!)

Now one last toy to make poor Dad scream –
    3) The ‘Cruise and Groove Ballapalooza’! (A dream!)
A Fisher Price toy, with lights, music and more….
Oh how we’ll all laugh as Dad runs out the door!
(And so, it’s not just us Mummas who are mad….
Thanks to Big W’s toy sale, now so is Dad!)

P.S. Have liked page on Facebook and am following via Networked Blogs 🙂

When the catalogue arrived in the mail last week master four sat down with a texta pen and circled all (yep, read *ALL*) the items he would like for his birthday next month and Christmas. He would especially love the LEGO City Town Square for $124 but at that price I said no. With a $100 gift card I’d buy it for sure. Otherwise the $20 LEGO sets down from $28.84 (most other stores they’re $29.95) are great value.

I work as a teacher aide so I would love to pick up some new resources with the gift card to use at school, things like the great value reading books (Fancy Nancy, Zac Powers, The Famous Five), some washable sidewalk chalk (great for sight word games) and if there was enough left I now one classroom that would love the Tinkers Easel Table and 4 chairs although my own two sons would love a scooter each, I think I would have to maybe go half to each 🙂

    26/06/2013 / 10:12 pm

Of course I’d buy some toys for the kids (a Barbie & Glam Convertible for my little miss & Little People Wheelies for mr moo) but honestly I’d have to spend most of it on a helmet and every knee, shin, elbow, groin etc pad I could get to fit hubby (aka my third child!)
Let’s just say there was an ‘incident’ over the weekend with the scooter he bought to “keep up with the kids”…. the pavement won.

Finally, a toy for grown-ups who have a little weight to lose –
the Despicable Me 2 ‘Fat Blaster’! … I’d aim it at those pesky love handles, thunder thighs and wobbly bum, and then Zapp!! Hey presto, goodbye fat!…
Oh, wait. What’s that you say?…. It’s a FART blaster??!!!

Oh. Well, in that case, sign me up anyway because with this toy, my 3 grandsons would definitely nominate me for the Coolest Grandma of the Year award! 🙂

Lego Lego Lego, lol. My 6 year old son has just discovered the wonderful world of Lego and all of the possibilities that come with it. I would love to buy him the Lego tree house as it just looks so cool. He would spend hours building and playing, he has a very big imagination and he would create endless Lego creations. He is saving up pocket money to add to the little bit he got for his birthday, would love to be able to help him.

some new board games, we recently introduced Monopoly to the kids and they LOVED it, it makes a nice change to see them play happily together when they spend so much time bickering, my son has even renamed Sunday night to Family Games Night.

    (his age is only four)
would like some combat gear and swords
    and figurines and more!
    As long as it’s TMNT
    he won’t be looking sour
    his heroes in a half-shell
    will give him turtle power!

    Dear Toy Sale Fairy,
What this Mummy needs is a trike bike. She is sick of the bike that runs over her toes, can’t be steered (even with 2 hands well) and gives her a sore back from trying to do so.
She would love to walk to the park with her son ON the bike, rather than throwing a tantrum because the bike keeps running off the path and can’t be moved off the grass with toddler on it.
    Thanks Toy sale fairy,
One mother (with a sore and bruised toe!)

I would use it to buy my 18 month old some new matchbox cars for his birthday on the 20th of December!!!!
He has just discovered Matchbox cars and has so far destroyed one, one has landed up in my washing machine, And another one appeared during a nappy change that he had stashed down there ( even a high pressure hose couldn’t have cleaned that car!!)

After 2 girls, i am having to toughen up and accept that boys will be boys, and this is just the start of nasty things i will have to clean whilst being a mum to a boy . A few spare cars would come in handy!

oh and a Nerf Gun for me, its about time i got some payback!
