31/01/2013 By All Mum Said 1 Comment

Do your kids love reading? If they do than I would get down to your local newsagent on Sunday for the release of The Courier-Mail and The Sunday Mail Kids’ Mini Book collection. The collection consists of 8 fantastic Australian books that have been loved by many over the years. These books are written by some amazing Australian authors that include Mem Fox, Graeme Base, Hazel Edwards and also New Zealand writer Lynley Dodd.

As mentioned above the collection begins this Sunday, February 3rdwith the first book being Animalia plus a library bag free with the purchase of the Sunday paper. The remaining 7 books can be purchased for $2 each with the token from the Courier-Mail, Gold Coast Bulletin, Townsville Bulletin and The Cairns Post. The tokens for books 2-6 can be found in the above mentioned papers from February 4th – February 9thand also in The Sunday Mail on February 10th.

With fun titles and fabulous authors that are bound to get your children excited about reading at such a low price, it’s worth buying the paper even if you don’t usually. My kids love these books just as I did when I was little. The quality is superb and well worth the $2. These books are True Aussie Classics!
February 3rd – Animalia

February 4th – Uno’s Garden

February 5th – Koala Lou

February 6th – Hunwick’s Egg

February 7th – There’s a Hippopotamus on our roof eating cake.

Mum-tuition ~ Did you have it?

30/01/2013 By All Mum Said 4 Comments

Did you experience mum-tuition (mothers’ intuition) when you were pregnant? Did you know the sex of your baby before the scan confirmed it? I never did with the boys but I have an inkling that this time I know what it is. I have found this pregnancy so different to the first two.

With the 1st I craved chocolate, chocolate and anything else chocolate. With the 2nd it was chocolate and sausage rolls. With this one – #3, I cannot eat chocolate or chips or basically anything you think you will want when you’re pregnant. These foods have given me the worst heartburn of my life and so I have lost all want to eat them; instead I have found myself living off avocado on toast and fresh orange juice. Now I admit this isn’t the worst thing that could happen; I am eating so much healthier now than before I fell pregnant.

I think this baby is a girl. I don’t care whether it is a boy or girl and would be more than happy with either. I already have 2 boys so I know what to do with them whereas the idea of having a girl in all honesty scares the shit out of me! What would I do with a girl?
My eldest messy boy

Anyway at this point it is just a feeling I have that it’s a girl so I could be completely wrong. I feel I am destined to be mum of muddy dirty smelly boys and that is 100% OK with me as while I am becoming more of a girly girl I am still a little in touch with my tough tomboy type side.  With the 20 week scan fast approaching I’m sure this will tell us one way or the other. I am just hoping ‘squishy’ is healthy.
What do you think it is?
Did you know what your babies were before the scan?

Baby Bouncing – What’s Old Is New

29/01/2013 By All Mum Said Leave a Comment

As I’m sure you know I am now half way through my pregnancy and we have started preparing by researching the items we will require for the baby. I say research because there appears to be little that is the same as it was 4 years ago when we had Kye. And just because it wasn’t hard enough the first time, we now have to go through the process of deciding what items are best for babies all over again. We have to start from scratch with these products since we gave away every single piece of baby ‘stuff’ we had because we thought we were done having babies. Life another plan J
One item I am proud to share with you is the BabyBjorn Bouncer Balance Soft. It is a newly released softer and more modern version of the original classic bouncer that was released in 1961. The quality is wonderful and I will have no hesitation at using this for ‘squishy’ when he/she arrives, the fabric (100% cotton) is strong yet soft which is perfect for babies. As a mum you think of practicality and this is one of the most practical bouncers I have seen; it has 4 easily changeable positions for baby – play, rest, sleep and transportation. The transportation position is folded flat which creates more space when it’s needed.
The benefits however don’t stop at the 4 positions and the cotton fabric. The cover can be easily removed and is machine washable (which every mum will tell you is a must), there are no horrible clips that mum or dad will snap shut on their fingers (yes I have done this many times in the past) – they are a simple slide through clip that are easy and adjustable for parents but hard for babies. This bouncer is also more than just a bouncer – it is capable of sitting children from newborns to 2 years old. This bouncer allows babies to sit, sleep and play safely and comfortably.
What other items do you see as a must have for a newborn?
Disclaimer:I received no cash payment for this post. I did however receive a BabyBjornBouncer Balance Soft valued at $229.95 for review purposes. As always all opinions are honest and my own.

Letter To My First Born

28/01/2013 By All Mum Said 9 Comments

My dear boy,
Today is your 6th birthday and during the years you have been with us you have bought so much to our lives. Before you made your entry into this world you already your father and me re-evaluating our priorities and thankfully we matured (a lot). Your dad and I were only young when we discovered you were well on your way to becoming our first born baby that we love so much.

I don’t know where the years have gone, it seems like it was such a short time ago you were playing peek-a-boo, taking your first steps, climbing on everything, feeding yourself for the first time and drawing on the wall with crayons, squeezing baby powder over everything and now you are about to begin year 1, you can read and write and you are a wonderful, caring and kind big brother.

The list is endless of hilarious things you have said and the infinite ways you have embarrassed your father and me in public. What are kids for right? There was the day at pre-school when you were learning about how dangerous snakes were and you piped up saying that’s a trouser snake! Or when you couldn’t say crocodile properly and continued calling them cock-diles.

You have tested my patients beyond anything I could have ever anticipated and yet showed me so much love. Your little kisses, hugs, smiles, confidence, sense of self and simple ‘I love you’ make it all worth it.

Happy Birthday Declan.
We love you to the sun and back. xx
