One of the biggest burdens a child has to deal with is being too short to reach everything. My daughter has been blessed with my height challenged genes and as a result needs a step to achieve many things; this includes, reaching the toilet, seeing on the kitchen bench and reaching door handles.

Previously to receiving the Dreambaby 2 Up step stool, we were using a step that offered minimal grip and barely enough height to achieve a difference. The new step is everything you could want in a tall step; it is safer as a result of the wider surface space that is also covered in sure-grip and its sturdy construction.

I love that the step is affordable. For the multi-purpose stool (single height) it is only $8.95 and the 2 Up step stool is a bargain at $13.95. The easy to clean stools are light weight and easy for little ones to relocate whilst maintaining the confidence in a product that is built to last. These baby nail clippers are perfect for use on any age up from newborns. I say any age up because there have been several times where I have used them on myself just so I didn’t have to hunt down the adult set. As all my children were born with long nails I understand the importance of owning a good set of nail clippers. My youngest used to scratch her face quite badly if I didn’t trim them every couple of days. The magnifier assists parents in seeing the nail closer and more clearly which also helps ensure you don’t cut too close. Dreambaby® Anti-Slip Mat

This particular product I haven’t used however as I have come to expect from Dreambaby®, this anti-slip mat ensures safety in more than one way. It is designed to be placed on the floor in the bath tub and is secured by suction caps to provide a safe and secure bath environment for babies and toddlers by giving them extra grip when standing or sitting in the tub. The mat is not only great for its anti-slip properties but it also contains heat sensing and colour changing starfish which alerts you if the water is too hot. It is important to remember that young children should not be left unsupervised near water. RRP $19.95.

Dreambaby® Easy-Clean Potty Seat

We are in the process of toilet training our daughter (almost a week in) and as our boys never had an interest in using a potty they went straight to the toilet with the aid of a toddler toilet seat. If you are toilet training boys this post may help. I love how this seat easily clips apart for cleaning because it ensures it is as clean as it can be and the splash guard at the front helps eliminate additional mess. The only thing I can fault about the potty seat is that it doesn’t sit snuggly in the toilet so it moves around when little ones climb on and has the potential to pinch their fingers. This may not be every toilet as I would assume some toilet seats are smaller/larger than others. Overall though it is a great product that works well to make toilet training easier for both parents and children. RRP $14.95.

Dreambaby® Bath Tub Spout Cover

Water safety is vital especially where there are little kids involved. Bath times are meant to be fun and thanks to Dreambaby® the risk of injury has been minimised once again. The bath tub spout cover does exactly as the name suggests and covers the spout/tap to prevent bumps while still allowing perfect water flow. The cover is inflatable which means it is easy to transport if going on holiday, to grandmas, etc. RRP $6.95.

Keep the Kids Safe + GIVEAWAY

Keeping kids safe is a parents main concern. There are many products on the market that aim to take the worry away but with so many options also comes confusion with what works and what doesn’t. Dreambaby safety products have been around for years and like any good brand they continue to evolve and produce high quality products that benefit parents at reasonable prices.

Dreambaby Ezy-Check Multi-Use Latch

Child proofing at its best; this latch is impossible for small children to open while remaining very easy for adults to ensure it locked. The Ezy-Check is straightforward, if it is locked correctly a green locked image will appear in the opening and if it isn’t locked it will have a red unlocked image. To close: simply clip shut. To unlock: you have to squeeze the side buttons together and also press the green indicator tab simultaneously (getting that green tab can be tricky if you have large fingers).

Thanks to the extra long and flexible band; this product is great for keeping little ones out of cupboards, toilets, fridges and in our case our top kitchen drawer because that is where we store our cutlery, chef knives and scissors. I like that they require no tools, no drilling and is as simple as adhesive backing. RRP $5.95.

Dreambaby Door Knob Covers

You know that moment your child discovers they are tall enough to open doors? Well for those with door knobs these door knob covers are a saviour! We have handles on our doors so these were not able to be tested with my daughter however a friend of mine has door knobs and a two year old daughter who loves to test her mothers sanity with her escaping abilities. These covers have stopped their little miss in her tracks as she can no longer turn the door knob.

While these are too hard for little hands to work out, they are extremely easy for adults to grip and turn. They are simple to fit over the door knob and require no tools. These would also be great if you are going on a holiday and want to prevent your child from opening the doors. They are a neutral opaque finish so they will blend in and not take away from the beauty of your home. RRP $7.95 for a packet of 3.

Dreambaby Soft Touch Corner Cushions

We have all experienced our child running into the sharp corner of the dining table, coffee table, bench, etc. It isn’t pleasant for them or us. These Soft Touch Corner Cushions are a fantastic way to minimise the impact and pain sustained by our little ones when they are running and not watching where they are going. These are small but effective and are very easy to install. RRP $6.95.

Oricom Non-Contact Thermometer Review + GIVEAWAY

Every parent knows the difficulties you can experience when your child is sick. They either want to cling to you and not let go; not allowing for toilet breaks, food, basically space of any kind. Or not want anyone to touch them at all. Both of these can make it hard when you need to take their temperature especially if they are young.

I cannot speak for every child but I can say that 2 of mine never stayed still long enough to get an accurate reading from the underarm or oral thermometers. They would get frustrated and pull it out. Now that they are older they understand the importance however I’m sure Poppet (almost 2 years old) is going to go through the same “don’t touch me – why aren’t you holding me – I said don’t touch me – I want cuddles” phase her brothers did. Which is why I am welcoming the Oricom non-contact thermometer into my home with open arms (wide open arms!).

Oricom Non-Contact Thermometer

The Oricom FS300 aka Oricom Non-Contact Infrared digital Thermometer is so great that it is hard to express in words its magic. I would go as far as saying it is the best digital thermometer on the market! I absolutely love this thermometer because as the name suggests it requires no contact. But better than that; it is fast. It takes less than 2 seconds to give you an accurate reading. Oricom recommends that you test on the forehead (temple) or behind the earlobe at 2-3cm away for a reliable reading. This thermometer is extremely versatile for general use as it allows measurements including body, room and surface temperature.

The Oricom non-contact thermometer is smaller than I expected but the size is perfect, not too big and not too small. It is an ideal pocket size that you can take it just about anywhere with you.

I absolutely love how easy it is to use. You can set it have a quiet beep when measurement is taken or make it silent. It stores the last 32 measurements for your convenience and it is as simple as pushing the start button to get the temperature of your child. It really couldn’t be more easy. The large backlit LCD display allows for easy viewing day or night.

Due to the fact it requires no contact, it is hygienic and eliminates risk of virus transfer. This is a huge selling point for me as I don’t want bugs and illnesses being passed to everyone in the family. The thermometer requires only 2x AAA batteries and as I have come to expect from Oricom, it comes with a 12 month warranty for the unlikely event you have any issues with it. Keeping your kids safe on the playground

Children’s playgrounds can be fun and wondrous – a place to play, explore and enjoy the great outdoors. But they can also be dangerous. Many children are injured while at play on public equipment and in worse case scenarios, the playground can be a magnet to predators who have evil in their hearts. It is incumbent on parents to take a few precautions before and while the children play.

But first, if your child has been injured as a result of a playground accident and you believe it was caused by the negligence of authorities, you may be entitled to some public liability compensation. If this is the case, you’ll need to consult experts in this field, such as Patinos Personal Lawyers , for advice on how to go about lodging a claim.

Inspect the equipment

It’s a good idea to have a quick inspection of the playground equipment before letting little Johnnie or Jenny loose for the day. You don’t have to be an engineer or mechanical genius. Just take a quick walk around the equipment looking for loose nuts, broken supports, missing parts or anything else that might be a hazard.

Keep an eye out

Many parents believe they are doing such a good thing taking the kids to the park, only to all but ignore them once they have set them loose in the playground. This is a rookie mistake. Even being satisfied the equipment is in good repair and safe doesn’t mean your child isn’t going to get injured. Children have a knack of getting themselves into places where they shouldn’t be and injuries often occur when equipment isn’t being used as it should. In addition, predators can also tell when a child is unattended and left to their own devices. Don’t sit there reading a book. Keep an eye on them at all times.

Play with the little ones

If your children are very small, you are going to have to be more proactive than simply watching them. Play with them and help them climb the monkey bars, play on the swings and use the see-saw. Little kids tend to watch and emulate their older playmates, even if they aren’t physically capable of doing so. And the end result can be disastrous.

Know your surroundings

It’s not just the playground that can be a hazard trap for small players. The surrounding area can also be an accident waiting to happen for the unwary. Most children’s playgrounds are built in safe parkland, surrounded by a security fence designed to keep the little ones in. But some, particularly the older ones, are not so secure and can be built on the edge of dense forests or near lakes and rivers. And it doesn’t take much more than the blink on an eye for many small children to disappear before you know it. Be aware of the area and anticipate where you child might run off to when you aren’t looking. Better still, don’t let them run away in the first place.

Danger for children can be lurking around every corner, and playgrounds are no exception. Just be a good parent, wary of any hazards that may be near, and your child will grow up enjoying all the delights public play equipment has to offer.
