Washing For Sensitive Skin + Giveaway!

With the birth of my baby girl 3 weeks ago it made a lot of things become relevant again in our house. For example I forgot how sensitive skin can be sometimes, especially on new babies and that sometimes the washing powder or liquid you use may be too harsh. When my first son was a baby his skin broke out in rashes and it took me a long time to work out what it could be from; we swapped bath wash, stopped using fabric softener, tried creams to stop it, tried different materials but nothing worked. It wasn’t until later when we purchased a different washing powder because our regular one wasn’t on special that we discovered that was the cause of the rash.

Since that day we have remained cautious of what washing detergent we use and as luck would have it Cold Power released their new Sensitive Touch just in time for me to start washing baby clothes, towels and blankets again. Cold Power Sensitive Touch are proud partners of the Eczema Association of Australasia so you know it is hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested and is free from perfumes making it perfect for sensitive skin. I love that it works best with cold water which ultimately saves me money on my electricity bill and is as simple to use as pouring the recommended dose into the washing and letting it do all the work. You can find out more information on how to wash smarter here: http://www.washsmarter.com.au. I am extremely impressed that it not only cleans our clothes with no extra effort but it also leaves them feeling softer than I expected. This product will now be a regular on our shopping list! The Cold Power Sensitive Touch is available in powder and liquid form for both front and top loaders. It can be purchased from supermarkets across Australia for $14.99 (2kg/2L).

  • Washing a Breast Pad in with the Washing. Way worse than trying to get a Tissue being Washed. Those Little Crystals were Everywhere!

  • When hubby throws the wet clothes from the washing machine straight into the dryer without checking them I get multiple twisted bras and a couple of pairs of semi melted stockings.

  • My husband putting his smelly shearing clothes in with normal washing. Disaster . It comes out very smelly

  • The typical washed colored stuff with white stuff, color got all mixed together, and it wasn’t pretty.

  • I washed my partners pants which happened to have a lottery ticket in the pocket, found out there was an unclaimed winner but I guess we’ll never know…

  • I have a disaster wash almost everytime, things are always stretching or getting tangled up or stains not coming out. My daughter and hubby are always soooo frustrated.

  • When I first moved out of home, I didn’t realise I had to separate the colours from the whites and I had a new red t-shirt in the was with my whites and I ended up with pink coloured everything! I did it once and learnt my lesson fast!

  • I was in hospital having just given birth to my second child when my Husband came to visit, all sheepish, and confessed that he had soaked his white work trousers in ‘a concoction’ of his own making and that the front of his pants had dissolved except for the zipper. Lucky he wasn’t wearing them at the time. All I could do was laugh.

  • My husband was wearing pink singlets for ages when I accidentally washed them with a red T-shirt…we couldn’t afford to buy new singlets back then!

  • My absolutely worst disaster was when my daughter was only a few months old. Her nannas and old aunties had knitted lots of cute little jumpers and blankets.
Well I was a very young mum, and nobody thought to tell me about hand washing!
Yes I ruined them all in one go when I put them into the old twin tub.

  • Never let kids help with the washing…Yes…. bubble bath does look like laundry liquid… “I was just trying to help”

  • My partner at the time thought he would “help” me by doing the washing. As it was his clothes, and they were quite dirty from motorbike riding, he thought putting more powder in the machine would mean they would get cleaner quicker…WRONG
I came home to him frantically bucketing foam out of our laundry, out into the yard.
We ended up with a 6ft high foaming blob on the back lawn and me laughing histericaly at him trying to then get rid of the foam from the lawn. The clothes ended up very clean, as did the laundry, back porch and anything else that got covered. He never “helped” again, not without supervision at least…

  • I once but brand new blue jeans in the wash the colour ran everywhere (even stained the rubber on the machine, all other clothes were a range if blue. It was also the first time using a brand of laundry powder which gave me a rash. So had different coloured clothes and a rash from one load of washing!

  • I once washed my hubbys wallet by accident and had added bleach to the wash lol he ended up with whitepants a white wallet and a few bleached $50’s …he was not impressed!!! but really it was his fault for just chucking his pants into my doona i was washing

  • Oh by far my biggest washing disaster was accidentally washing my new pair of dark denim jeans in with the lights. Don’t ask me how I did it! But hubby was not pleased as several of his shirts were turned pink and purple, and some things were beyond repair and had to be chucked!

  • Definitely the worst was a sneaky red item finding it’s way into a white wash! The ‘masculine’ members of the family were not impressed with some of there favourite items being turned a light shade of pink!

  • I had just brought a brand new white skirt to wear out that night, thought I would quickly give it a wash, not looking in the washing machine my partner at the time had put his red footy shirt in the machine, non the wiser I started the cycle, wasn’t I surprised and shocked when my brand new white skirt turned out red and pink with blotches. Needless to say I didn’t wear that skirt that night.

  • I accidentally washed my youngest sons pyjamas with a ‘pull up’ inside the pants, little did i know that my older sons footy gear was also in the wash! next day was footy and 9am and my hubby and I were busy picking off balls of ‘pull up’ residue of the 10yo’s footy gersy , shorts and socks!

  • I am the expert in washing things that shouldn’t be washed, I’ve washed a couple of ipods, a phone, several usbs, a (clean unused) disposable nappy and the very worst- a whole roll of toilet paper! Now that’s worse then washing a tissue!
    Surprisingly the ipods survived!

  • I once did a load in our washing machine and realised the hose wasn’t attached and water went all over the carpet in our new unit. Fail!

  • I read labels, I sort carefully… I’m the original goody two-shoes. I haven’t ever had a laundry disaster! 😀

  • My girlfriend had just got married, and had come home from Bali, had to get carried off the plane with a shocking case of Bali Belly.
She got home and threw all the lovely new T shirts she had bought in Bali, into the machine, unfortunately the colour ran from one of them, and the whole lot were ruined!

  • My son was recently toilet training and decided to help out and empty his potty into my front loader!!! yuck!!! so I poured some bleach gel into the machine and ran a quick 30 minute hot wash through it to find at the end a machine full of bubbles it took a few washes for all the bubbles to disappear :-)

  • I was house sitting once and just used their washing detergent and I came out in hives all over my body – so I only ever use sensitive washing detergent now!!!

  • I recall unloading the washing machine one day after my husband had turned it on, there was white fluffy stuff through the whole load, I couldn’t work out what it was,….and then I came across the outer side of the nappy which had gone through the machine, was unfortunately a dirty one too!

  • Huge load of blacks, and someone left a tissue or two in their pocket. More the fool me for not checking all the pockets on the way into the machine. It felt like I spent forever getting all that tissue off the washing.

  • doing the washing when i was young trying to help and i put the new red sheets in with my baby brothers clothes and they all came out PINK mum was not amused

  • Not a disaster… but I had to scrub and disinfect my machine afterwards… Following the floods in Brisbane in 2011 – I washed about 25 loads of Army Clothing that had been in floodwaters… lots of brown and very smelly clothes through my machine…

  • I through in something RED ,I thought I was dead as it was my daughters favourite white skinny leg jeans ,Now they are a lovely shade of Pink shh don’t tell her I shared this link haha

  • washing a red table cloth with my partners white work shirts, lucky it was a Friday afternoon and he didn’t have to work until the monday!

  • When my washing machine had a load on and the hole thing started to shake and vibrate… we walked in and it was broken and it had moved across the the other wall.

  • My husband is a smoker and went through a stage of buying the packets of tobacco and papers to roll his own cigarettes. After I dutifully washed his work clothes one day, I discovered this fine brown grassy-stuff all through the washing machine and his clothes – he’d left a full packet of tobacco in a work shirt and I’d washed it, argh! I was still picking the damn stuff out of the machine 3 months later when we finally moved out of that flat, and as the washing machine was supplied with the flat, I was glad to leave it behind!

  • I have a small business, working from home. I don’t make a lot of money, and in the past did not have contents insurance. My laptop was very important for my business, held important information, and I was worried about theft. So I hid it. Same place every day – in the washing machine, wrapped in a towel. I would pull the plug out of the wall as a physical reminder that the computer was there before I used it. So, 2 days before the end of the financial year I got a brand new laptop. Around this time, my partner moved in to my house. I thought she was fairly clear on my system. Apparently not.

I was sitting in the kitchen working when I heard a banging sound coming from the washing machine. “um, you did remove my computer before you turned the washing machine on, right?”. She thought I was joking. I’d had the laptop for one day.

…. I now have contents insurance.

  • My biggest disaster would be the time i washed my $900 hearing aid and stuffed it completely.
It had been raining so I took it off and put it in my pocket – we got home and someone grabbed all the washing- dumped it in machine.
The shock when I noticed it missing & feel SO ill , will long be remembered.

  • When my boyfriend done the washing, and all of our clothes shrunk to the size of something that a chipmunk would wear. Every single item of clothing. Including underwear and everything. My little sister got a lot of clothes for her dollies. She was over the moon. I felt differently, as you can imagine. Morale of this story, if you have washing to do, just do it yourself.

  • Washed my partners full packet (23/25) of cigarettes, had cardboard, filters and tobacco all through my washing and washing machine. It was a MESS!!!

  • My boyfriend didn’t empty his pockets and I washed a full packet of cigarettes. Tobacco stuck all over the clothes and I couldn’t get it off, even when they dried. They also stunk of tobacco for a week. Took a week of washing every day to get rid of the tobacco and the smell!

  • Tissues should never be allowed
    In jeans and winter coats
    They always stand out proud
    And almost seem to gloat!

  • The Case of the missing Bra Underwire …just one disappeared! Next load i put in, the wire was found…washing machine fail!

  • I need to find a washing detergent to be able to wash my husbands smelly socks and hunting clothes :)

  • I washed a very expensive top with my baby’s bib and the Velcro from the bib got stuck on the top and recked the top, note to self always put Velcro together and hand wash expensive clothing.

  • Puts hubby’s wallet through the wash (he’s fault he left it inside his jeans) lucky everything was intact apart from a lotto ticket we will never know if he won anything.

  • Tossing my clothes in the machine without checking, it was only after the cycle was complete that I realised they had been washed in a load with the dogs bedding, my clothes were covered in animal hair, my pet hate!!!

  • It was the night before my son’s christening. I had a white gown that I’d borrowed and thought I’d give it a quick wash and freshen the night before. Well, the old red sock thrown in the machine by my husband did it’s trick! The next day, our gorgeous boy was christened in PINK!

  • When I had my first daughter I was determined not to change into one of those gorgeous hospital gowns, so instead I wore my own clothes for the labour and birth. After she was born and my partner was heading home I gave him a bag containing these clothes with strict instructions to put them straight in the machine when he got home. 3 days later when I was finally allowed to go home, imagine my surprise when I opened the machine to see that he had indeed put them in there, only he hadn’t actually washed them! It was not pretty, the clothes were very quickly binned and the machine bleached a few times before I could bring myself to use it again!

  • In the haze of new-baby-brain, I accidentally machine washed a used disposable nappy in with all our clothes, on hot. It looked like a plastic bag full of toxic ooze had exploded.

  • Juat this week I washed my very Glittery black top in a dark wash only problem is my husband work uniforms where in there he was not impressed having to explain why he was all lovely and glittery to a room full of Truck Drivers
