Back to reality with IGA

I cannot believe how fast the school holidays have gone, it only feels like a couple of weeks ago we were counting down the days until end of school while making preparations for Christmas and all of a sudden we are now doing the back to school shopping. Organising back to school items is exciting for kids but can be quite stressful for parents when you have to search for specific items that are hard to find or have minimal stock and sell out very quickly. It hadn’t occurred to me before to search my local IGA for stationary goodies until I was informed they had half price supplies; A4 Copyright Copy Paper, Selected Bic Stationary Range, Marbig exercise books and binder books, Spirax notebooks, Lecture Pads and so much more. Yep all at half price! I love notebooks and pretty much every other forms of stationary and office supply so as you can imagine I have now got a huge stockpile for me and more than enough for the kids’ school book lists.

IGA products-01

Knowing that the holidays are fast coming to a close we now have to get prepared and get back into a routine. This of course means school lunches, homework and bedtime being regulated again as life returns to normal. IGA has often got everything I need to get organised and stay on top of the crazy school period; washing liquid for clean uniforms (regularly on special), lunch items, snacks, water bottles, lunch boxes plus a wide range of recipes to give you some ideas for quick and easy meals during the week. Check out the specials catalogue for your local IGA and see what bargains you can pick up this week.  To find out what other mums love about IGA pop over and like their facebook page and check out the Instagram for the latest summer fun.

Local means looking out for anyone in your city or suburbs.. Even especially supporting smaller businesses, and the working class man (so Australian).
IGA is a great example of a local business who exists to support and provide services to schools, health departments and charities which are for our most vulnerable citizens.. Its a great idea to build rapport and feel like we all belong.. Helps all ages, and gets to all the people who really need it not just building the empires of greedy big corporations who don’t keep it personal and don’t share their good fortune… Gives us pride and strengthens the whole community.

It means having all the brands I love, including lots and lots of Australian Made/ Owned Brands and smaller local manufacturers/producers products.

Local means products tailored to meet a particular community’s needs. Unlike the duopoly, ‘local’ stores will reflect it’s customers’ desires and not simply fill shelves with pre-ordained stock dictated from the eastern states.

Local means close enough to pop in, open enough to enjoy, small enough to be friendly, flexiable enough to meet my special needs, caring enough to be safe for my kids- even when they throw a tantrum in the store,

Local means that when the checkout person says ‘have a good one’, they actually mean it and when you look for a gluten-free item one week and it’s not there, the next week it will be, it has been ordered in! Everything is done efficiently and with style, no cracked eggs at the bottom of my bag! Thanks IGA, you are awesome!

Local can be a city or a country town, it’s not exclusive. It’s a friendly smile with eye contact, it’s the fruit and veg guy still laughing at my husband every time he sees him after giving him a free chilli and seeing his face redden, it’s the deli girl remembering one of my sons loves the free fritz but my other prefers mettwurst. It’s knowing that I’ll find the kaffir leaves or unique ingredient for some new recipe I’m trying. It’s a feeling of comfort you get from familiar faces.
    It’s simply home.

Local to me means being able to duck down to a store for a forgotten ingredient or on the way home. A place where you feel comfortable wearing your trackies and where the workers ask, ‘Can I help you?’ and really mean it. The local supports the community and provides you with bargains on Market days. Our local even has A weekly street which gets extra freebies and discounts- it’s these small touches that count. Our local IGA has recently been closed because of fire and its amazing how much you miss the convenience of a local!
