It’s hard keeping up with the new and ‘in’ toys these days. There are so many crazes at once and the kids still ‘need’ them all! In saying that though; I do love that so many of the TV shows that I grew up watching as a kid have made a come-back. I remember growing up my brother, sister and I used to pretend to be Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and ‘fly/jump/somersault’ off the swing set in an attempt to destroy the villain Rita Repulsa or in later episodes Lord Zedd. My brother was always Jason the red ranger, I was Kimberly the pink ranger and to my sisters disappointment she was always Trini the yellow ranger. Power Rangers have clearly proved themselves with series after series being aired and while they have definitely changed over the years they are no less popular.
90’s Flashback
2013 Version
It is great seeing my kids enjoying the same things that I got hours of entertainment from all those many years ago. Today however they do create Power Ranger toys that are so much cooler than they when I was a pink ranger. If your kids, like mine have embraced the world of Power Rangers then the Power Rangers Megaforce Gosei Morpher is more than likely on their Christmas wish list. It features lights, sounds and opens up to place your card inside. Each card unlocks phrases and sound effects which make for even more interactive imaginative play. 10 cards are included with the Morpher and more can be purchased to increase the phrases; there 180 phrases in total. Another pro to this toy is that it only requires 2 batteries!! RRP $49.95
As the heading suggests I also have 2 to giveaway to lucky Mad Mummas readers just in time for Christmas!!

HEY HEY IT’S SATURDAY. From the obnoxious Red to the ridiculous antics of Plucka Duck, this show had us entertained and in stitches. The Great Aussie Joke with Maurie and Marty Fields was worthy of the genuine laughs. Our family challenge was to retell the jokes next day, trying to remember them without messing up the punch line. Unfortunately I got the gong every week. I constantly wrote in for Plucka Duck but only to be able to cuddle Plucka – I didn’t care about the prizes. I cried for days when the show was axed.
I always like to watch “Tailspin” with Baloo because they always had different missions that they would fly and accomplish.
My favourite was the music show Rage, my Dad was awesome, he loved it too and would sit and watch it with me and knew all the songs, no one else’s Daddid that!
Beverley Hills 90210 as I was a huge Luke Perry fan!
I credit the cartoon Captain Planet to my interest in taking care of the environment. He was a great role model that taught me the importance of preserving the wonderful world we live in.
Home and Away! I would look forward to watching it each night, also gave my parents and I a jumping off point to talk about relevant issues (sex, teen pregnancy, drugs, bullying). I think it still provides a good scope of Australian society. I’ll be watching it with my kids too when I grow up.
I loved the Jetsons, how I wanted to live in a family who had a robot as a cleaner so I didn’t have to do all the horrible jobs!
The X Files, it was the best show on the planet and if it was still on today, I’d be there transfixed to the tv set. You never knew what weirdness was about to transpire and that romantic tension between Mulder and Scully, I loved it!
Round the twist was my all time favourite show when i was a child. It showed a different lifestyle to how we all lived with unique episodes. I would never miss one and even though it might have given me some nightmares sometimes, it always left me with questions as to what was going to happen next and that’s what i love about TV shows.
Sex in the city-almost like a reality show i became totally engrossed in the girls lives-i still like to watch it on dvd!!
I remember watching that show – Round The Twist and Degrassi High in the 90’s .. fun shows for that age group.. My daughter loves Power Rangers..
My Son Tommy was convinced ‘Tommy” the Power Ranger was his namesake.
Power Rangers became the families fave show, because of how excited our Tommy got ! his little heart pounded when we went to see them live & just last New Year he squealed when he saw Tommy the Power Ranger at the petrol station & took a pic with him !
Our Tommy’s turning 21 soon LoL
You’ve WON!! Check your email 🙂
agros cartoon conection, i loved agro he was hilarious and it was an awesome family show for all to watch, my kids still love power rangers today it was always awesome ,i still have the videos and some of the new shows also
Punky Brewster! My childhood was quite difficult with a very ill mother who actually passed away when I was 11, and we had had to live with relatives for a time, so I sort of emphasised with Punky’s situation. I loved her attitude and the way she won over Henry who later adopted her. When things in my own life were tough, I could retreat into the show, and hope that just like Punky, there would be a happy outcome for me.
watching TV wasn’t simple,
Back in the days I got my first pimple.
1 TV in a house with 6 kids,
You could imagine all the bids.
Alex Mac was one of the best,
Amazingly it Pleased all the rest.
30 minutes of silence an afternoon,
Was almost enough to make mum swoon.
As I’m now myself a mother,
I wish that there was another
Show on which they could agree,
To make ME happy as can be.
I would have to say Twin Peaks. Nothing has ever matched the dreamy, surreal quirkiness of the show. I watched it religiously to find out who killed Laura Palmer 😉
Dr Who has always been a favourite with my son.The first time he ever sat still was when he was about two watching a black and white Dr Who movie. He was hooked at the age of two and thirty years later, nothing has changed.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, had everything for everyone, action, intrigue, paranormal and a beautiful heroine and an equally charismatic Frenemy (Angel)
In fact this show seemed to transcend all age groups, which many others didn’t. My dear little dog (in doggie heaven) was named after her,
i loved the simpsons it was the only show i ever watched
Seinfeld – great characters, hilarious situations each episode got better, each season funnier, and each character deeper!
Dawson’s Creek. My big brother and I would get together on Dawson’s night to watch together not that I was allowed to tell any of his Friends lol.
Family Matters
The unrequited love that Urkel has for Laura and the awesome inventions he creates. I loved that no matter what Urkel puts his mind to, he never gives up. Some pretty funny acts.
Beverly Hills 90210
Ultimate teen tv show 🙂
Charmed had me charmed!
Melrose Place, for all the drama and gorgeous characters that I was seriously addicted to.
The X Files, great show in it’s own right but I secretly had a huge crush on Fox Mulder…….if only David Duchovny had been as hot in this show as he is in Calfornication!!
Ah, back to the 90’s, let me reminisce
About the show I could not miss
For me, The Nanny was the best
That nasally voice, and the way she dressed
Mr Sheffield, and Niles with his one liner gags
And C C Babcock and the way she brags
All the characters were great, ’twas the fave show of mine
So many laughs as it told the tale of nanny Fran Fine!
You’ve WON!! Check your email.
Would have to be Super Sentai (older ones). Like they say the oldest is the best. It was very unique and funny. I really like comparing it to power rangers and its newer versions. They were creative and that’s probably why Saban adapted it.
Burke’s Backyard was my favourite, they had alot of interesting topic’s.
Melrose Place I loved the best
Beautiful characters I must attest
Dramas, murders and some flirtation
Monday nights were my salvation.
My fave 90s show was BH 90210
It was full of love, lust, sex, hate, bitching, sexy men and just so dam hot
My boys loved power rangers and now I have a Grandson and we can do it all over again, that if his father will share.
Toss up between ‘Friends’ which a never missed an episode of and ‘Seinfeld’ a fantastic show about nothing!
I cactus believe the Power rangers are back!
I loved Roseanne, it was great to watch as it was so different from my family growing up.
Loved all the mystery and quirkyness of the X Files with its amazing characters and wild stories
I liked to watch The Golden Girls, they were hilarious!
Will and grace
they rocked our place
wishing them on from sun up to down
listening to stories all over town
Will and Grace, it was funny.
Oh I adored Punky Brewster, seriously wasn’t she just the envy of all little girls, I thought she was so stylish, lol, what was I thinking.
I loved Rugrats. I would love to have babysat Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil. These kids were so cute and so well behaved. I love how they always stood up against the bully (Angelica)
I had 2 favourites.
Pokemon and Power rangers! I’d watch them before school even though it made me late every morning! 90’s shows were amazing!!!
I loved Ocean Girl, I even swam like her! of course i couldn’t stay underwater indefinitely but i tried, so i could be just like Neri. When i wasn’t being Neri i was pretending i lived in an underwater city,
oh to be so young again.
Go Go Power Rangers, loved watching them fight and finding out one was a girl.
Favourite 90’s was Degrassi High, loved watching they way they all interacted, and that they were involved with a magazine.
I loved watching The Rugrats with my kids. It provided plenty of opportunities to discuss what not to do!!
At a time when I was rebellious my favourite show was Party of Five.
I wanted to live in a family without a Mum and Dad to boss me around.
I think my boys think that way some days!!!!!
Everybody loves Raymond. Oddball family life, consisting of a fed up wife, overbearing parents, and an older brother with lifelong jealousy. Just like my family!!!!!
Friends. A sitcom that bought our family together to watch it .
Fresh prince of bel air- I’m still trying to perfect the ‘Carlton’ dance moves
The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air is seriously brilliant. This is the show that managed to balance lessons about growing up, incredible humour and family dynamics in a way that never ever felt cheesy or forced. I still love it as much today as I ever did. Like “The Simpsons” it found a way to tell a good story first and foremost and then let the humour flow organically.
CLUELESS. A patent leather shiny love letter to nineties pop culture and fashion. It was everything I wanted my life to be like in High School.
i loved sailor moon, even know just thinking about it I can hear the theme song playing in my head.
Beverly Hills 90210 as I could relate to it and it gave me insight that I might never have had
With so many things happening in teenage life while growing up , FRIENDS was the one show that use to make me happy. I use to watch it, live for it & dreamt about getting friends like that..
Home Improvement,used to love it
My favourite show was Buffy, in a generation when most shows were about fluffy girls whose strongest way of rebelling was to skip school or sneakily date the “wrong” guy, I loved to have Buffy, a chick who was strong, dedicated to fighting wrongs but committed to living a “normal” life 0f friends, schoolwork, and family. I loved that she only ever fought with hand to hand combat of sorts, that she never used guns, from a country that is so gun focussed this was a refreshing change.
The mantra “What would Buffy do” would work for everyone! When in doubt, put your stylish yet affordable boots on and kick some bad guy butt.
Neighbours was awesome with Kylie, then Natalie Imbruglia – Harold and Bouncer – the best times
Friends ..my favourite was Joey because he was so funny ,But ross and Rachaels on off relationships made the show more exciting to watch !!Phoebe song Smelly cat still gets a laugh here in our house also 🙂
To may to list! But my favourite would have to be Rocko’s Modern Life!
Seinfeld. FINALLY the US got a comedy right after the long wait from Roseanne. The immature and geeky George, A dry, witty Seinfeld, an obsessive, compulsive Elaine and the hilariously bumbling Kramer, always brought the family together for a laugh, no matter the day’s differences.
Friends – was funny and quirky just like me and my friends were
Our house was pretty much a NO TV house in the 90’s, my parents were trying to expand our minds or something like that. It wasn’t til my 20’s that I discovered “Friends” 10 years later than everyone else and I think I have watched the entire series once a year for the last 5 years 😉
Oh it was totally Power Rangers! I loved the Pink one, she was awesome. I remember being 8 and dragging my mother across town to watch the Power Rangers movie with me. Good on her for suffering through 90 minutes of lycra-clad teens battling monsters, lol. Memories!
OMG, I loved coming home from school each night, turning on the Telly and watch Power Rangers. At the time I thought it was the coolest show ever! We then would play power rangers at school at lunch time! Lived the pink one 🙂 my boys would Love this!
Captain Planet – such a catchy theme song and he was really the beginning of my passion for caring for the environment!
